The probability is that there are many habitable worlds in our galaxy alone and countless in the universe. None of us shall live long enough to ever visit one.
Its not about living long enough. It’s the fact that everything is incredibly far away. Its just not possible for us to travel at the speed of light. Nd even if we do make something that has a speed of light, humans still won’t be able to travel at that speed.

Fascinating. I had recently bought all three of the Arthur Templar series for my grandson for Christmas. I have to confess I wrapped the covers of each book so that I could read them all without marking them. I loved them. I think my grandson will, too. I don’t want to give anything away about the plot, but the exoplanet Proxima Centauri figures in the trilogy. If you like a quiet read in speculative fiction, it’s a well-written trilogy and worth the time. The trilogy shares the Banner ‘Arthur Templar and the…’ The first is The Curse of the Nibiru, The second is The Secret Codex, and the last in the Series is the Serpo Gambit. I enjoyed each one.
You probably should have made it clear for people who don't know that Proxima is a binary system, Proxima A the main component is a main sequence star similar to our sun in size and luminosity, Proxima B is a red dwarf that orbits Proxima A at the distance of about 23 sun to earth distances.
Proxima Cent. Is not a binary star, but Alpha Cent. is, and the pair have been named as Alpha A and Alpha B. They orbit each other taking arorund 88 years or so in an elliptical orbit. Alpha Centaurii A is roughly the same size as our Sun, is like our Sun an orange star. (surface temp. is around 6000 C) is the SECOND OR third NEAREST STAR to us, depending on where it is located in tin its 88 year travel orbital path with its companion star Alpha Centauri B.. This binary (pair) is around 0,25 light years farther than Proxima Centauri which is NEAREST to us, and is ACTUALLY THE THIRD MEMBER of the ALPHA CENTAURI SYSTEM and takes some half a miilion years s or so to complete a single trip around A and B. In fact one must have a sizeable data about is orbit in order to precisely state its orbital period . Now, Proxima Centauri B is one of the EXOPLANETS FOUND recently using the latest technology of finding EXOPLANETS around the stars and about 3000 of them have been identified till now. In good time PROXIMA will become THIRD member surrendering the FIRST and SECOND places to ALPHA CENT. A and ALPHA CENT. B, say in about a half a millions years !

The Sun on Proxima Centauri b would be similar to the Earth as seen from our Moon. Hell, a lunar orbit is equivalent to approx. 2.5 Prox. Cen b years. Designing a calendar would be easy, just have 11 days. When you're walking around that planet you'd feel similarly to walking on our own Moon.

Proxima Centauri, that little cutes red dwarf, shoots out humongous flare and coronal mass ejection about 100 times more powerful than any experienced in our solar system. Why the facination with this red dwarf? Its part of a triple system of stars one being identical to the sun and the other only 10% smaller than sun. Hypothetically if it did have an atmosphere how hot or cold would it be exactly? Since it’s orbiting a red dwarf would it be colder than earth on average? Also I heard from somewhere that if plant life grew there the chlorophyll would make the plants look black instead of green because of the red colored star.
Exoplanets is and will always be a fascinating subject of research. Personally, as an amateur astronomer, I have spent years on data analysis, mathematical simulations of planetary systems and their dynamics, habitable zones, etc etc. As of the star Proxima itself, we have to mention a very important parameter: It is a flare star that "burps" very frequently, so the charged particles and X-ray emission is very strong and relatively constant. For the history to be reminded, on May 1st, 2019, the star "burped" (flared) for 7 seconds and this flare was ~100 times stronger than the strongest flare the Sun ever did. This made Proxima 14000 times more luminous at UV wavelengths, for those hellish 7 seconds. Based on that and that it flares a lot every year, normally no possibility for any kind of life there. Oh, and a necessary correction: This planet is not 1.27 X heavier than Earth, but 1.071 (or 0.00337 Jupiters), according the most recent paper of February 10 2022. This means the planet is 1.15 times the Earth's radius. The result is a density of 3.88 g/cm^3, close to that of Mars which has a density of 3.94 g/cm^3.
Proxima is also a binary system which they failed to mention in this video. Proxima A the main component is a yellow/white main sequence star that's about the same size and luminosity as our sun. Proxima B is the red dwarf mentioned here which is in a close orbit around Proxima A of about 23 earth to sun distances.
@@badmonkey2222 Actually a trinary system, with A and B components (of spectral types G and K respectively) close to each other, and C, the Proxima itself, much further away from the other two. If the whole Alpha Centauri system can be called Proxima im general (because of its proximity to the Sun, in cosmic terms), the star mentioned here is actually the C, or simply the 3rd one.
I have to ask because I’m pretty new to this subject and you seem to know your stuff, if proxima b had a strong magnetosphere could that prevent the atmosphere being torn away by the flares and would the dark side of the planet receive less radiation from the star on the surface?

Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, stars forming an inner binary, and Proxima Centauri, an outer star that orbits around the inner binary. so technically the inner two stars form the binary component because they orbit each other and the outlying star on its own orbits them both, so it's technically a standalone star but part of the same system of course.
@@aaronsmith3484 A strong magnetic field is present as your planet is far from the star, so spin of the planet is necessary to produce it, PLUS the necessity of a core consisted of ferromagnetic materials in a liquid state. But, even IF the planet has a ferromagnetic core in liquid state, then again it can not produce a magnetic field (or, in the best case, if it has any it will be extremely weak) because of a major obstacle: Tidal friction. Tidal friction stops the planet's spinning (and as a result, the production of a magnetic field) the closer it is to its host star. Given the very small distance to its star, the planet definitely does not spin. To make it simple: the bigger the distance, the stronger the magnetic field because the less tidal friction is caused by the main mass of the whole system.

Proxima Centauri has been shown to be a flare star. With frequent solar flares and as close as Proxima B is to the star would be brutal to any atmosphere that it once had.
@Chandu K Raj agreed, but the magnetic field of that planet has to be MUCH STRONGER than Earth's for two reasons: 1. It is extremely close to the parent star and 2. The radiation from solar flares that close will be 100,000 times stronger than anything Earth gets hit with.

I had a dream once that I got to see life on Proxima Centauri and it was strange. People there seemed more depressed and almost not as capable of as much intellectual thoughts, but i may have been in a lesser developed area. Their water was much thicker as well which was strange

Even with a strong magnetic field, Proxima B would still have to deal with the main problem of red dwarf stars. And that is that Proxima is a "flare star". Periodically it emits giant solar flares, which means the "sun" side of B would be regular roasted by intense UV light and x-rays. Which no planetary magnetic field (if it even exists) would stop.
Technically Mars and Venus are in the habital zone and they didn't turn out so well. Also Earth for the first billion years or so didn't even have life and it faces struggles even today. One really bad super volcano, astroid/comet, ect. and a visiting alien race might not even know we existed unless they find the rovers on mars or find a man made satellite. The point is we'll probably have to visit a few habital zones if you're hoping to find life. If life is found I actually suspect it will be outside the habital zone which is where most planets are found. For example, in the possible oceans that lie under the surface of Europa.

The pain is exquisite. So many planets. There’s 100% chance there is life out there. But we’ll never know unless it comes to us first.

Fascinating. I had recently bought all three of the Arthur Templar series for my grandson for Christmas. I have to confess I wrapped the covers of each book so that I could read them all without marking them. I loved them. I think my grandson will, too. I don’t want to give anything away about the plot, but the exoplanet Proxima Centauri figures in the trilogy. If you like a quiet read in speculative fiction, it’s a well-written trilogy and worth the time. The trilogy shares the Banner ‘Arthur Templar and the…’ The first is The Curse of the Nibiru, The second is The Secret Codex, and the last in the Series is the Serpo Gambit. I enjoyed each one.
Definitely need this for other exoplanets that are believed to be habitable. Perhaps the Trappist planets can be next?
You probably should have made it clear for people who don't know that Proxima is a binary system, Proxima A the main component is a main sequence star similar to our sun in size and luminosity, Proxima B is a red dwarf that orbits Proxima A at the distance of about 23 sun to earth distances.
Proxima Cent. Is not a binary star, but Alpha Cent. is, and the pair have been named as Alpha A and Alpha B. They orbit each other taking arorund 88 years or so in an elliptical orbit. Alpha Centaurii A is roughly the same size as our Sun, is like our Sun an orange star. (surface temp. is around 6000 C) is the SECOND OR third NEAREST STAR to us, depending on where it is located in tin its 88 year travel orbital path with its companion star Alpha Centauri B.. This binary (pair) is around 0,25 light years farther than Proxima Centauri which is NEAREST to us, and is ACTUALLY THE THIRD MEMBER of the ALPHA CENTAURI SYSTEM and takes some half a miilion years s or so to complete a single trip around A and B. In fact one must have a sizeable data about is orbit in order to precisely state its orbital period . Now, Proxima Centauri B is one of the EXOPLANETS FOUND recently using the latest technology of finding EXOPLANETS around the stars and about 3000 of them have been identified till now. In good time PROXIMA will become THIRD member surrendering the FIRST and SECOND places to ALPHA CENT. A and ALPHA CENT. B, say in about a half a millions years !

Imagine just walking around that planet. It's weird because you're not in a different state or country, you're in a different planet probably experiencing new things.
The Sun on Proxima Centauri b would be similar to the Earth as seen from our Moon. Hell, a lunar orbit is equivalent to approx. 2.5 Prox. Cen b years. Designing a calendar would be easy, just have 11 days. When you're walking around that planet you'd feel similarly to walking on our own Moon.

Proxima Centauri, that little cutes red dwarf, shoots out humongous flare and coronal mass ejection about 100 times more powerful than any experienced in our solar system. Any apocalyptic movies you can picture in your head, happens on a yearly basis in this solar system. Life as we know it, could never ever exist in this system, sorry to bust your bubble people.
Why the facination with this red dwarf? Its part of a triple system of stars one being identical to the sun and the other only 10% smaller than sun. Its around those two where the exciting true earthlike planets will be. Everytime an exoplanet is discovered as soon as i hear its around a red dwarf i just roll my eyes.
@@leonpaul9443 It's not a fascination with a red dwarf, it's a fascination with this particular solar system. Cause it has 3 stars, but mostly because it's the closest system from our own (about 4 - 5 light years away).

Hypothetically if it did have an atmosphere how hot or cold would it be exactly? Since it’s orbiting a red dwarf would it be colder than earth on average? Also I heard from somewhere that if plant life grew there the chlorophyll would make the plants look black instead of green because of the red colored star.
God made this planet special, specifically made for us and where we are in the universe, is significant in ways beyond our comprehension, obviously.

Exoplanets is and will always be a fascinating subject of research. Personally, as an amateur astronomer, I have spent years on data analysis, mathematical simulations of planetary systems and their dynamics, habitable zones, etc etc. As of the star Proxima itself, we have to mention a very important parameter: It is a flare star that "burps" very frequently, so the charged particles and X-ray emission is very strong and relatively constant. For the history to be reminded, on May 1st, 2019, the star "burped" (flared) for 7 seconds and this flare was ~100 times stronger than the strongest flare the Sun ever did. This made Proxima 14000 times more luminous at UV wavelengths, for those hellish 7 seconds. Based on that and that it flares a lot every year, normally no possibility for any kind of life there. Oh, and a necessary correction: This planet is not 1.27 X heavier than Earth, but 1.071 (or 0.00337 Jupiters), according the most recent paper of February 10 2022. This means the planet is 1.15 times the Earth's radius. The result is a density of 3.88 g/cm^3, close to that of Mars which has a density of 3.94 g/cm^3.
Proxima is also a binary system which they failed to mention in this video. Proxima A the main component is a yellow/white main sequence star that's about the same size and luminosity as our sun. Proxima B is the red dwarf mentioned here which is in a close orbit around Proxima A of about 23 earth to sun distances.
@@badmonkey2222 Actually a trinary system, with A and B components (of spectral types G and K respectively) close to each other, and C, the Proxima itself, much further away from the other two. If the whole Alpha Centauri system can be called Proxima im general (because of its proximity to the Sun, in cosmic terms), the star mentioned here is actually the C, or simply the 3rd one.
I have to ask because I’m pretty new to this subject and you seem to know your stuff, if proxima b had a strong magnetosphere could that prevent the atmosphere being torn away by the flares and would the dark side of the planet receive less radiation from the star on the surface?
@@user-gp3hv9fz2d you're correct and that there are three stars in the system but only A and B form the binary component. Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, stars forming an inner binary, and Proxima Centauri, an outer star that orbits around the inner binary. so technically the inner two stars form the binary component because they orbit each other and the outlying star on its own orbits them both, so it's technically a standalone star but part of the same system of course.
@@aaronsmith3484 A strong magnetic field is present as your planet is far from the star, so spin of the planet is necessary to produce it, PLUS the necessity of a core consisted of ferromagnetic materials in a liquid state. But, even IF the planet has a ferromagnetic core in liquid state, then again it can not produce a magnetic field (or, in the best case, if it has any it will be extremely weak) because of a major obstacle: Tidal friction. Tidal friction stops the planet's spinning (and as a result, the production of a magnetic field) the closer it is to its host star. Given the very small distance to its star, the planet definitely does not spin. To make it simple: the bigger the distance, the stronger the magnetic field because the less tidal friction is caused by the main mass of the whole system.

Sometimes I wonder if people want to find life on other planets simply because, even with billions of people here, most still can’t find a single person to truly connect with.
Proxima Centauri has been shown to be a flare star. With frequent solar flares and as close as Proxima B is to the star would be brutal to any atmosphere that it once had.
@Chandu K Raj agreed, but the magnetic field of that planet has to be MUCH STRONGER than Earth's for two reasons: 1. It is extremely close to the parent star and 2. The radiation from solar flares that close will be 100,000 times stronger than anything Earth gets hit with.

I had a dream once that I got to see life on Proxima Centauri and it was strange.
People there seemed more depressed and almost not as capable of as much intellectual thoughts, but i may have been in a lesser developed area. Their water was much thicker as well which was strange

Even with a strong magnetic field, Proxima B would still have to deal with the main problem of red dwarf stars. And that is that Proxima is a "flare star". Periodically it emits giant solar flares, which means the "sun" side of B would be regular roasted by intense UV light and x-rays. Which no planetary magnetic field (if it even exists) would stop.

Technically Mars and Venus are in the habital zone and they didn't turn out so well. Also Earth for the first billion years or so didn't even have life and it faces struggles even today. One really bad super volcano, astroid/comet, ect. and a visiting alien race might not even know we existed unless they find the rovers on mars or find a man made satellite. The point is we'll probably have to visit a few habital zones if you're hoping to find life. If life is found I actually suspect it will be outside the habital zone which is where most planets are found. For example, in the possible oceans that lie under the surface of Europa.
Life may in fact be somewhat common. But the universe is so huge that our chances of coming into contact with it is slim.
