  • What's a switchel? It's a refreshing, fermented health drink that is hydrating and energizing. In this video I show a variation of a switchel where I ferment it with a ginger bug left over from my ginger beer video and then I flavor it with berries and fresh basil. This switchel recipe is so easy to make and tastes so good, you have to try this easy fermentation out!
    TheBruSho is your guide to make home brewing simplified. From beginner lessons to tip and tricks to equipment breakdowns, all to give you the confidence to brew your first beer and beyond. Together we will see what shortcuts can be taken to make the brew day easier and get a fermented beverage in your glass faster.

    Plastic will retain smells and flavors....for anyone who wants to do this a lot, gallon size glass carboys are pretty cheap. If you want to get into brewing larger batches, 5 gallon glass carboys are the standard....but I highly recommend going for the 6 gallon ones. I don't think there is much of a price difference if at all, and with a 6 gallon carboy, you can make wine.

    I love fermenting all sorts of food and drink and find your channel a great resource. I was wondering if I could do a 'hard' version of this recipe by adding more sugars and allowing a longer ferment? Or would it just get too acidic?

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 года назад +2

      Thanks! I think it would keep fermenting but I’m not sure how strong you could get it from just the ginger bug. You could add more sugar and then add a brewers yeast if you really wanted it to be strong

    What is the shelf life of these?

  • @saveoon
    @saveoon 3 года назад

    I have questions I’ve been scouring the internet to find so I’d rather not do the counter pressure method for filling the kegs because I am limited to funds so I was wondering if the kegs could be depressurized disassembled filled then reassembled and have it’s same function? I was also wondering if the function could work with a thicker liquid and not just beer would love to hear back from you

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 года назад

      Not sure I fully understand your question but you can totally fill up kegs from the opening in the top and then close it. And yeah you can use thicker liquid (not sure what) but I’m guessing it would take more pressure/co2 to push it out. Hit me up on discord if that doesn’t answer your question

    Does this have any % of alcohol in it when it’s time to drink it from the bottles?
    What would be the amount of ingredients if I wanted to make a 5 gallon batch?
    Thank you!!

    • @TheBruSho

      Hey thanks! I would say there are trace amounts of alcohol, under 1%. And since this is a 1/2 gallon recipe I would say to just multiply everything by 10
