  • YanksAtShea is proud to present another of eleven videos highlighting the last ten home runs of Roger Maris's magic 61 home runs hit during the 1961 season breaking Babe Ruth's single season home run record. Number 51 off of Jerry Walker was called by Mel Allen on this September afternoon in 1961 at Kansas City's Municipal Stadium. Long live the REAL all-time single season home run king Roger Maris.

This home run was hit in Kansas City's Municipal Stadium. I knew that when Mel Allen said that Joe Nuxhall was warming up. As a teen growing up in Kansas City I was a fan of the K. C. Athletics and I remember that the A's acquired Nuxhall before the 1961 season in a trade with the Reds. Nuxhall , who spent almost his entire career with the Reds, missed out on a World Series check in 1961 because the 1961 Reds won the National League pennant.

You are correct. I was there that day in Kansas City and it was in August 1961, not September as the caption says.
