Ryan: Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2018 Jeep Renegade, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite 2-inch Trailer Hitch Receiver. This hitch is going to function great for all of your Jeep needs. It's going to work good for accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers and it's also going to work great for any light-duty towing. The hitch is going to be mostly visible, but in my opinion, it matches that rugged look that the Jeep offers. The hitch is going to sit a little lower to the ground, but there are items available to make just about any accessory you have work without any issues.Something else you might want to check out to use with your hitch, whether you're going to be using it primarily for towing or for any accessories is the Let's Go Aero Anti-Rattle Lock.
What that's going to do is lock anything you have in your hitch to your hitch, that way it cannot be removed unintentionally. It's also going to eliminate any play in your connection point, making your overall experience smoother. One thing about this hitch is there is a hole in front of our pinhole and that's going to be used with a J-pin. What the J-pin does is it sits in there like that and that is also going to eliminate any movement or rattle in the connection point. The main pinhole itself is going to be the standard 5/8 size, however the hitch will not come included with one, so if you need it, you can pick it up on etrailer.com.The safety chain openings are a plate style and they are really big and open. That's going to be good because we're going to be able to use just about any size safety chain hook that we might have without any interference. Now, for those of you that plan on doing some light-duty towing and want to run your wiring to your hitch, it does have a bracket welded on it.
That way, you're going to be able to get another bracket, connect it here, and keep your wiring permanently secured outside. If you don't have any wiring and you're interested in checking some out, our experts do recommend the Tekonsha 4-pole wiring harness. To go along with towing, they also recommend the etrailer.com ball mount kit.Since this is a Class III hitch, it's going to have that 2-inch by 2-inch receiver tube opening. It's also going to have a reinforced collar for extra strength. As far as the weight capacities go, it's going to have a 675 maximum tongue weight rating.
That's going to be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, it's going to be 4,500 pounds. That's going to be the amount of weight pulling on our hitch. That's going to be how much your trailer weighs plus anything you might have on it. It is always a good idea to check with your Jeep's owner's manual to make sure your Renegade can pull that much weight. Now, I'm going to give you a couple of measurements.
You're going to use these to help figure out which hitch-mounted accessories to use. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening is about 10-1/4 inches. You're going to use that measurement to figure out whether you need a ball mount with either a drop or a rise. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our rear bumper, that's about 5-1/2 inches. You're going to use that measurement to figure out if any folding accessories you might have can be stored in the upright position without contacting the bumper. Now that we went over some of the features, let's go ahead and install the hitch together. To begin our installation, we're first going to come into the back wheel well behind our rear tire. There's going to be a square panel inside of the wheel well that we're going to need to remove just so we have a little more room to work. It's going to be held in place with two Phillips head plastic screws. You can just pull on the panel and take it out and set it off to the side. We're going to do that exact same thing on the other side. Now, underneath the vehicle on each side, we're going to have to remove three rubber plugs, just like this. Those are going to be our attachment points. To remove it, you can just take a trim panel tool or even a flat head screwdriver, just pry underneath it and pull down. The other two are going to be on the outside of our frame rail, here and here.On each side of our frame rail, driver and passenger, we're going to have to drill a hole, that way we can have an access spot to fish wire our hardware through. We're going to go on the frame rail in the center right in front of our muffler bracket. I'm going to go about right there. You can use a h

I have a 2022 Renegade and there is a threaded hole where you would need to cut the access hole. What’s that for and any suggestions for a work around?

It does hang down a bit. But it serves it purpose of hauling bike racks and cargo carriers in areas that don't have extreme terrain.

Is this product compatible with the 2019 Renegade Trailhawk? I can't find anything for the 2019

Yea, there's nothing available yet. I'm not sure why either it's kind of strange. I reached out to our hitch manufacturers and neither had a reason why for me. We haven't had anyone bring a 2019 into our location yet either so we haven't been able to test fit anything. If you're local to us we'd love to try and find a fit. If you are referring to the Jeep Renegade Latitude, then yes. This hitch is designed to work on the 2015-2020 Jeep Renegade.
