I was planning on buyin a Lubitel camera, but I feared I might have issues using it. This video was the motivation I needed to make the purchase. Thank you for making a "fool-proof" tutorial on how to use it. You got yourself a new subscriber!
The Lubitel 2 is a copy of the 1938 version of the Voigtländer Brillant, a camera that my father used up to the 1960s and was my introduction to photography.
I have a Lubitel that I haven’t used for years. I was looking for a refresher on how to load film and watched several videos before I found yours. I think your videography and detail is the clearest, especially where you demonstrate focusing.
A mate in England just sent me a lubi to New Zealand he’s a legend the camera is a foxy lil minx can’t wait to get some film loaded in it thanks for this video mate superbly informative 📷❤️ liked n subbed cheers
This is the best type of tutorial video I've seen so far! Fantastic, keep up the good job! It's easy to understand, straight to the point, and quick. Please let me know if you accept subtitle translations, I would love to do these in Hungarian.
Thank you so much! Unfortunately RUclips has recently removed the feature to add subtitles by other users. But if you are willing, you can email me at the address you can find in my channel's "about" tab.

Amazing video! I just bought one on eBay and can’t wait to use it. I was just wondering what kind of shutter release cable is compatible with this camera. Thanks!
Hello, your video is amazing. I found out that my grandma has this camera at home and now she lent me it. Can I ask you what film I can use? I found for example 120 kodak gold 200/120? Is it okay to use it by this camera? Thank you very much for your tutorial and also for your answer.
Hi! You can use any black & white or colour film you like. Kodak gold is very good. For B&W I usually use Ilford HP5 Plus which is very good and cheap. One thing to avoid is using film with over 400 ASA (ISO) in this camera, because the shutter speeds are relatively low compared to more advanced or later cameras, and your photos might end up over-exposed. Also keep in mind to have the camera on a tripod or standing on a surface for speeds 30 and below (even in 60 sometimes) because you can easily get motion blur.
Thank you so much for this!! I just bought this camera from eBay and your video explains everything so crystal clear!! A quick question , if I buy a film with 16 exposures is it ok? Or it takes only 12 exposures film ? Thank you again!
Yes, you can buy a new empty spool. You can easily find one online or you can ask in photography shops. They often have spare ones and give them for free.
You will need to have an old type flash with a sync cable which will be attached to the flash sync socket. This way, when you take a photo the flash will fire. You should better use lower speeds such as 1/60, 1/30 or 1/15. The camera doesn't have a shoe for holding the flash unit, but you can use an extra accessory grip, or just hold the flash in your hand.
@@ifanybodyislistening You will have no problem. This is why this little window exists. Even if you leave it open all the time, you'll probably have no problem, unless the sun hits it directly. But better remember closing it after every time you advance to the next shot.
Maybe the spring is stiff because of age? Make sure that the film roll is not pushing the spring. When the film is in correct position, the spring should be holding it over from falling. Also make sure you are using 120 film and not 620 or anything that looks almost identical.
Which film has the darkest lettering on the paper backing. I put some Ilford Hp5 into my Seagull 4bi and wasted 2 frames because I couldn't see the numbers through the red window. These cameras with red windows are best for people with Xray eyes. I stick with my easy to load and use Yashica Mat. No worries and superior glass.
Great video. Trying the second method of composing, the front panel of the hood got stuck to the back panel. How to bring it back to original position without damaging the camera?
This often happens. Try to pull back the back panel carefully an then slightly the side ones. Also the front part that is stuck has two square holes on the sides. Try pulling it from these holes using a wire or a thin screwdriver. Always with gentle moves. Don't force anything.
@@FilmCameras I pulled from the holes, it easily came back up, thanks! Probably, having this camera pre-focused at 4 or 5.6m, stopped down to 11 or 16 and composing at eye level is the easiest way to go, for street photography. Happy shooting.
The ISO depends on the film you choose to load inside. There is no way to set it otherwise. Once you load the film, you should remember the ISO and adjust the aperture and shutter speed accordingly.
Ναι.
Thx man! Found one in my grandpa's stuff and wondered how I use it

η πρώτη μου φωτογραφική μηχανή όνειρο!
I have the product but I don't know where I get the flim roll its the good one there's no need a power or the battery its a good
You can buy the "120 film" roll for this camera in photography shops or on the internet. Also this camera doesn't need batteries. It is fully manual.
Thank you so much for this!! I just bought this camera from eBay and your video explains everything so crystal clear!! A quick question , if I buy a film with 16 exposures is it ok? Or it takes only 12 exposures film ?
Thank you again!
120 film's exposure number depends on the camera you use. Lubitel 2 is 6x6 format which means that it will take 12 square exposures.
@@FilmCameras Great! Thank you for your answer!
great video!! what are the best shuuterspeed and aputure in daylight?
That depends on the depth of field you want. For something average, try 1/60 or 1/125 and f8 with a 400 iso film.
SimonDC the rule of the sunny f16 means un full direct daylight with a clear sky it’s about f16 and 1/100th of a second :)
hope it’ll help
This video is very helpful. I found one today in my grandfather's stuff, but there wasn't the spool inside. Do you know if I can replace it?
Yes, you can buy a new empty spool. You can easily find one online or you can ask in photography shops. They often have spare ones and give them for free.
@@FilmCameras Thank you so much!
can to please tell me what the open-able panel provided in the left side off the camera is for?
This side panel covers a case which is used for keeping two extra lens attachments (lens filters etc).
What about the flash socket?
You will need to have an old type flash with a sync cable which will be attached to the flash sync socket. This way, when you take a photo the flash will fire. Great video, great tutorial but I'm wondering what about film sensitivity setting? Does this camera have it at all? Thank you.
No, this camera doesn't have this setting. You just have to note or remember what ISO type of film you have inside.
@@FilmCameras And according to remembered film sensitivity to adjust shutter speed and aperture, isn't it?
@@zvonkodjuric7716 Yes, exactly!
@@FilmCameras Thank you :-)
Good old fashion manual camera.
So after I wind and it says one just leave the window open? What if i move it to go back to the arrow with the little noob will the film be fine?
After winding the film to the number, you better close the little window (showing the arrow) in order to avoid light leaks.
@@FilmCameras so keep it on the arrow after winding. Crap.
@@FilmCameras so close it every time and what about every time I advance it do I open advance it then close it?

is this camera made of metal or plastic? How is the lens on on this?
It is made of plastic (bakelite) but the lens is metal and glass.
Lubitel 2.
انتي نفس القطعه بس قديمه واصل وارقب في بيعها
For what ever reason the roll doesnt fit with the spring in the bottom, anyone know whats up with that?
Maybe the spring is stiff because of age? Make sure that the film roll is not pushing the spring. When the film is in correct position, the spring should be holding it over from falling. Also make sure you are using 120 film and not 620 or anything that looks almost identical.
Seemed to be the stiffness! Thanks for your help

How do you set up the ISO?
The ISO depends on the film you choose to load inside. There is no way to set it otherwise. Once you load the film, you should remember the ISO and adjust the aperture and shutter speed accordingly.
You will need the exposure meter to be able to do good quality pictures.
