    People think $500 is too much for the Pentax 17 and now they've got a fixed f11, fixed shutter speed point and shoot for $350? Oof. I expect the Widelux to be $2k at least. I don't think the issue with cost and a new Pentax is designing, but manufacturing. Sure they could bring out the old plans and designs for previous cameras but all the tooling and machine work for those parts may or may not be available anymore. I couldnt see them making a modern gr1 for less than $800 probably.

      It's a tough situation. I wonder how much a rangefinder coupling would've added to the Pentax 17 price. Because 600$ for a new rangefinder would probably sound more reasonable than 500$ for a point and shoot with zone focus.

    If a gr film camera came out today, I would buy 3 off the bat. Absolutely the best street photography camera. I’m a Leica shooter and have been for over 15 years. Even if I would also much prefer to see a GR-like camera as the hopefully next Pentax FF camera, I think it will be more likely a Pentax 36, very close to the 17. The 17 is almost a 36: double the cutout area in the film chamber, switch the viewfinder, adjust the winding gear, done. The already motorized lens positioning according to the set up distance could shurely be turned into an auto focus.

    My vote is for the GR1v. I borrowed one in the early 2000s, put 2 rolls of B&W through it and always remembered its image quality and simplicity.
    I couldn't afford one at the time and by the time I could, they were not available new. In 2012 I was able to buy a new Fujifilm Klasse W directly from Japan. I think they had just gone out of production. These are similar to the Ricoh GR1v in spec. but with more optional manual controls and a more upmarket look. Stunning image quality, even a little better than the GR1v.
    A new Pentax made GR1v would be expensive today.

    I have heard that the Pentax 17 is a chassis body camera. Does not mean that it would be the foundation of the 35mm coming out next but maybe variations of it in the future. I have also heard they are seeking photographers input on what they would like to see in the full frame compact camera.

    I would like to see something that does not yet exist in this form from Pentax, but which Ricoh has already brought onto the market in two ways with a Pentax K mount. I'm talking about a completely mechanical SLR camera with a metal leaf shutter and battery-powered TTL light meter.
    Pentax does not even have this in its own portfolio. With a cloth focal plane shutter yes, but there is no model with a metal leaf shutter from Pentax directly. Of course, the light meter should also be up to date. But I personally don't have a Pentax model that is comparable to the Nikon FM, Nikon FM2, Nikon FM2n or Nikon FM3a in terms of the criteria. With a reasonably bright focusing screen, Pentax K mount, hotshoe, and a fastest shutter speed of 1/2000 or even 1/4000 second and, as I said, with a metal leaf shutter. Of course also with a mechanical self-timer. And if possible with a metal body. That would be my Pentax dream for the analogue world.
    Maybe then as a Pentax K2000, who knows.

      @VivaEZLN1 3 месяца назад

      But would you be willing to pay the price for something like that?

    • @SchwarzPoet
      @SchwarzPoet 3 месяца назад +1

      @@VivaEZLN1 If I have the money, yes.
      Or let's put it another way... if you still want to take analogue photos in 10 - 20 years' time and don't want to pay exorbitant repair bills, you'll have to rely on new cameras like this. Because let's not mince our words, the camera manufacturers and the workshops that officially repair their old models for them are already complaining that the old technology and electronics from the 70s, 80s and 90s are increasingly giving up the ghost, even from the oh-so-great top models, and that there are no longer any spare parts for them. This means that in 30 years at the latest there will be a shortage of such analogue cameras, unless you dig even deeper into your own pockets. So brand new SLR cameras like the ones I want will definitely be necessary if anyone still wants to take analogue photos. And if you look at the situation in the world at the moment, analogue cameras will become all the more important in the foreseeable future.

      That is the expected design portfolio for the 4th camera of the Pentax Film Camera Project: full metal, full mechanical, full manual, and full frame. Expect it to cost a mint

    • @SchwarzPoet
      @SchwarzPoet 3 месяца назад

      @@robblincoln2152
      I estimate between €1500 and €3000, unless the experience gained from the first three project cameras can help to reduce the price. But if you look at how much Nikon cameras cost at the end of the 60s to the end of the 70s, adjusted for inflation, and take into account the amount of work that has to be done nowadays, it's definitely justifiable and who says that I would buy a brand new camera?
      The important thing is that there will be more new analogue cameras before the ravages of time gnaw away at the existing ones even more and the technology/electronics are not so far gone that the old cameras completely give up the ghost due to a lack of spare parts. A creeping super disaster would then be waiting for us.

    • @SchwarzPoet
      @SchwarzPoet 3 месяца назад

      @@robblincoln2152
      Of course I expect that, but who says I'm going to buy them brand new? And if you look at what cameras cost 50-60 years ago, adjusted for inflation, I reckon they cost around €1500 - €3000, which is what a mirrorless system camera would cost today, with some costing even more. Producing and installing technology and electronics, including a digital sensor and display, is not as expensive as you might think, just like a programme written and installed for ALL cameras, and yet the prices for such system cameras are not exactly affordable for everyone.
      A completely mechanical SLR camera with fewer electronics, i.e. purely for the light meter, with a metal housing and solidly built, will not cost more on the market than a new digital system camera from Sony (Alpha 7 series) or Nikon (Z series). So I'm not worried that I might be able to afford a new used analogue and mechanical SLR camera 5 - 10 years later, or as soon as my career change back to my profession is complete and has borne fruit, possibly even sooner.
      I think these predictions that such a new analogue SLR camera would cost €5,000 or even €10,000 are pessimistic nonsense. Because quite honestly, by the time this is the fourth or fifth new camera, Pentax will have had enough practice.
      And as we have learnt from history, initial products are usually more expensive and subsequent products then increasingly stabilise in price.
      Oh yes, the nice thing about such a camera, as I would like to see from Pentax, would be the fact that it would last at least 50 - 60 years, if not more, unless you accidentally drop it from a height into the depths during a mountain hike.😁
      After all, future generations should also benefit from it. 😉

    I would have thought the 'model' for the next Pentax would be the Contax G2, not a Ricoh. Unfortunately, Pentax is showing that they have surreally horrendous taste in terms of aesthetics. That half-frame abomination borrowed all the worst elements of their already ugly 70s cameras. Just gross. I was initially enthused by the news last year that Pentax was getting back into film cameras, but now... not. And then when i remember the bad experiences i've had with their (used) 35mm SLRs (MX and LX), i'm even more inclined to just spend the stupid dollars on a T2.
