- On June 14, 2024, Capt. Judith Neuffer Bruner was laid to rest in Section 83 of Arlington National Cemetery. Neuffer was a pioneering aviator in the U.S. Navy when she became the first woman to fly solo in an aircraft and the first to become a P-3 pilot in the Navy. One of the first women to qualify as a naval aviator in 1973, Neuffer logged several thousands of hours piloting the P-3. She was the first woman P-3 aircraft commander and the first woman to pilot an aircraft through the eye of a hurricane. She retired from the Navy in 1998 after 28 years of service. She went on to serve at NASA under a variety of assignments. We honor her service. (U.S. Army video by Daryl Vaca)
I'm so proud to say that this wonderful lady is my Aunt Judy. I was honored to be in attendance at this wonderful ceremony. She was also honored by Goddard Space Center later that afternoon. Love and miss you, Aunt Judy.
Your Aunt was a true hero and broke many glass ceilings. As a veteran, I thank her for her service. RIP and God speed
What wonderful gift you shared with us.
My condolences at your loss. Know she is in a better place now.
My condolences to you and your family. I thank your Aunt Judy for her service for this great nation.
Thank her for her service.
I'm the daughter of two Navy Veterans from the Korea War. Both my mom and my dad were very proud of their service to the country in the Navy. Mom passed in 2015 and dad is still going strong at 90. Our condolences to the family of Capt. Bruner from our family. Such a role model she was.
Very stirring to see Captain Bruner’s final disposition handled as a total United States Navy affair. The P3 was the platform for my USN rating during my service in Vietnam. An impressive and worthy aircraft. Her devotion and performance to the P3 undoubtedly matched it. Rest In Peace, Captain Bruner.
Thank you for your Service! Fair Winds and Following Seas Shipmate. My Hero!
As a 66 year old Navy veteran that brought tears to my eyes.
Most strongly agree!
David Althoff , remember and Google that name please. There is no one playing that bugle anymore. They all come with an MP3 ready to go once a button is pushed! The 9 gun or 21 gun salute is also done with synchronized Bluetooth. David althoff was a very good friend of mine and once he retired from the Marine Corps he became a Lay Catholic priest and he would go into care homes and nursing homes and serve the needs of the elderly Catholic patients. He was the greatest, marine aviator of all time. Just look at his Google. Hall of Fame, marine aviator of the year 21 air medals in Vietnam from his helicopter. Rescue squad.
Fair Winds and Following Seas
Rest now Hero, and thank you for your service to our nation.
Thank you Captain, this veteran honors your service.
Was there a "Missing Person" fly over.? Man is not the proper pronoun now under Biden.
I cry though every burial for a veteran but it is really heartbreaking at Arlington. The pageantry 😢
RIP Ma'am. Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your Service, Captain Bruner, RIP!!
Slowww Saluuute''' Madam Aviator...clear blue skies and wings of glory...
Our military definitely knows how to honor those who serve. Thank you.
As a Marine....I'm appalled that these Navy guys can't even march in step. So sad.
No they don't. My Father-in-Law served on the USS Essex from 1952-1954 as a Fireman in the boiler room. All he got at his funeral was a couple 300# reservists that did nothing more that wander around in the church lobby with the female playing on her phone. They half-assed handed my Mother-in-Law his flag and then they left. It wasn't even folded properly. He did not get his proper graveside, a Navy Chaplin or his 21.
A very impressive career, just think about all of the lives she touched and had an impact on in her career and life,
We honor her service to this country and we send thoughts of peace and comfort to her family.
RIP Ma'am . Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our Country.
I had the opportunity to witness the burial of my uncle, a Marine veteran at Arlington, and that was impressive! I'm tearing up watching the video!
May she Rest In Peace. It's a shame that they couldn't have a P-3 flyover.
DC has a very tight airspace
The aircraft that overflew the cemetery was a P8 Poseidon Aircraft the current version of maritime patrol and submarine patrol.
They could have, last squadron is at NAS Whidbey Island but the cost of flying one from there may have been an issue.
@@tucksmith8300 so tight they could have a P-8 flyover???? Moron

My dad was a combat WW2 Seabee. I am so grateful for the Seabees at Swan Usland, Portland Oregon gor their honor guard at his funeral st the Mt Scott National Cemetery.
So beautiful in it's simplicity and solemnity. That truly is hallowed ground.
Brings tears to ones eyes of the Honor & Respect they give to all! 🥰
With great respect to Captain Bruner, thank you from the UK.
Clear skies and tailwinds forever Capt.
Thank you for your service! May you rest in peace!
Fly Navy! USN (retired)
A very fitting tribute to her service. Fair winds and following seas Captain.
Very glad to see honors rendered for this Naval Aviator. As a primary flight instructor in the Navy's training complex at Pensacola, I did not fly with this officer but I did fly with two of her contemporaries. We always treated these first women flight students as ordinary students. One I instructed was average; another was exceptional. RIP.
Honor, Courage, Commitment. "Semper Fortis"
It is a great honor to serve side by side with her in the 70's, fly high and true forever...
God bless ALL Men and Women in the Service!!!!’ My father was a WW11 vet. He was on Okinawa at the age of 19 fighting in World War II.. He passed away at the age of 99.
Hooyah shipmate! Fair winds & following seas! Bravo Zulu on a job well done!
As a 78 year old navel aviator, this brought back all of the funerals of my friend that didn't make it through Vietnam. This was a great pioneer leader. So sorry.
Thank you so much for your dedicated and heroic service. RIP
RIP Shipmate… Fair winds, and following sea…
Captain Bruner, ma'am, may you always have fair winds and following seas.

Very nice ceremony. It would have been nice if we were informed who she was and what she did.
Just Googl her, and you will see her many accomplishments.

Absolutely amazing
Beautiful ceremony!
Rest in peace and thank you for your service to our Nation.
Rest Easy Captain Bruner 🙏🏻🇺🇸
#RIPaviator, NOTE: What galls me is that not all #USVeterans gets this #HonorableBurial at #ANC. I recently buried my #WW2 buddy with no #HonorGuard, they were a #NoShow from the #VFW. I’m a #DisabledVet, I served in #Grenada & #DesertStorm, I’m pretty sure my remains will not end up in #DC!
Fair Winds And Following Seas Captain. Rest In Peace. GBU.
Thank you for your service. Just wish they didn't have the background music
As an ex British soldier, i can truly say that the American miltary knows how to say goodbte and thank you to there military vets.
Saul Higginbotham
My dad was a WW2 AAC vet. He's also buried at the AC Columbarium.
As a USN vet (Viet Nam era, one hitch), I hope to join my dad there in 20 yrs or so...(yeah, there's room for one more box in with him).
Stands and Capt. Judith Neuffer Bruner.
As Dad's QB comrades would say, she's 'gone west'. Fly safe, and safe landing.
Rest thou well, fallen hero. You have served faithfully and well. We have the watch.
Solemn and touching 😢 🇺🇸❤️🔥
God Bless our servicemen ❤
Magnificent ceremony, God bless you ma'am, may you rest in peace

ABeautifull ceremony for a courageous Lady!,
Thank you Captain for your service God's speed
Semper-fi Captain...Sorry, it took until 1973. RIP
Very touching to honor a fallen aviator who served so well. However, she was not the first woman to fly solo as stated in the description. Not even close as that occurred decades before her.
End of Watch Naval Aviator
I was sure the deceased was an Orion pilot when the P-8 did a fly by. I never flew with her but would have been thrilled to do so. AWCS John A. Emerson USNR Retired.

For those not in the know, a single mention of her name might not have gone amiss!!!
Details are in the description. Just open it up
It was nice of them to give Judy her own seat in the car. I hope she was wearing a seatbelt!
