In a alternate universe this movie is a spin-off of the movie "Drive" 'cause Ryan Gosling played a stuntman in that as well.

I suggest the Burt Reynolds film Hooper. Also about a stunt man. I haven’t seen it in a while and don’t remember the plot. But he was actually a stunt man unlike Ryan.
I feel like it was trying to capture the spirt of those types of films along with a tribute to the TV Show.

There was a really great film in here at one time. Then it looks like it got run through the DEI filter at Universal Studios and it went from being a great film to just an OK film. Seen it many times.

In the trailer, it looked like the stunts were CGI, But they looked better in the finished film. And seeing them actually done in the credits was awesome. Very fun movie. I just wish they hadn't changed the lyrics to the theme song, or had at least played the original version during the credits too.

The song at the end credits was the original song that that was re-tooled and sung by Lee Majors for the show. It also was the inspiration for the show itelf!

Have been a fan of Ryan Gosling since Drive, I haven't seen everything he's in (I didn't see Barbie), but I'm definitely interested to see this just for Gosling. The movie poster you had up is definitely a summer movie poster. I think I watched the first trailer and it looked exciting, but have been avoiding further trailers or press to avoid spoilers.

Agreed with the reviewers. I’m part of the carryover from Barbie - I didn’t like the movie especially not Ken but I liked the Oscar’s performance and Ryan and Emily’s presenter skit. Ryan has that X factor like Brad Pitt. Thank you to Dante for saying there was chemistry with Emily. It was far too long - the length of that sequence with Stephanie Hsu was ridiculous. And Hannah’s character was too much of a caricature at the end. I’d just come from several viewings of the layered Dune so I knew I wasn’t in for anything deep.

Its a love letter to the craft of stunts, we loved it. Already pre order the steel book. The credits don't skip them. The universal studios live show is a must see with Ryan making an appearance in the press preview of the live stuntshow at the park. Too me it felt like a summer blockbuster but in May.

They should have framed him sooner and not in the last 30 minutes of the film. There also need to be police chasing him as well as Troy's men. That would have been more interesting. I mean, they did quoth The Fugitive for god sakes. Opportunity missed.

Dante is kind of wrong! 21 Junp Street did actually reference the old movie with an appearance of Johnny Depp and Peter Deluise both revisiting albeit bruefly, their tv characters of Tom Hansen and Doug Penhall from the tv show. So technically Jonah and Channing's characters were meant to be the new generation of Jump Street Chapel cops. It was the same universe as the televison show. So this basically is a watered down version of The Stuntman for a dummed down audience? Also I hope Ryan Gosling hasn't turned into a commercial actor because he's done such great serious work with Nicholas Winding Refn. So no appearance by Doug Barr or reference if not warranted memorium to Markie Post in the ending credits? Pretty sure she was ok that show for a few years.

I doubt that is much pratical... There're a lot of dicussion about invisible CGI, that filmmakers are selling as "no CGI". For example, Top Gun: Maverick had more CGI than Black Panther. There're a lot of fake Behind the scenes as Barbie and Top Gun and Mission Impossible.

    • @mcnuggetapple

I overall liked The Fall Guy but I felt that we needed a more comedic actress than Emily Blunt to play Jodie. At no point in the movie did I “buy” the chemistry between Blunt and Rosling or that Jodie was the actual director of that movie. But I thought the movie did a great job of showing the excellence of the stunt team & second unit in films and TV.

    • @adamw116
      @adamw116 28 дней назад

I don't know who this Rosling guy is, but I think Emily Blunt is very talented and proved she can do comedy somewhat in Devil Wears Prada. She was also in a romcom with Jason Seigel.

Love your content...I'd like to give some constructive criticism which serves a practical purpose:
Listeners often listen to podcasts etc. while doing something else and might miss the one time at the start where you mention the name of the film, the director, or whatever subject you're talking about. If we miss that one time you mention the name of the subject...we'll spend the rest of the whole segment cursing the fact that we missed the name and won't have a clue what you're talking about. If we've got our hands full or listening to a live broadcast we might not want to rewind to find the one spot where you mention the name(s)...
So my suggestion is to build a habit of mentioning such key info like the name of the movie/person you're talking about a few times during the segment (doesn't have to stop the discussion, no need to explain, just casually throw those names in there as repetition). That allows listeners to catch up to what's going on even if they miss the first time names are mentioned.
You're not doing anything wrong, it's natural to talk like you do with just one mention of the name at the start, but this is not a normal casual convo, this is a live broadcast to listeners who are doing who knows what and listening with who knows what kind of audio equipment! It would help us listeners if you'd build a habit of giving us a few repeats of the names.
    Thanks again, all the best!

Apart from the title and the lead character is a stuntman called Colt Seavers, this bears no resemblance to the TV show at all. Why not just make it an original film about a simp stuntman pining after a girl whilst getting mixed up in murder shenanigans? I was bored most of the time with this anyway, and the overhyped ‘amazing stunts’ are nothing compared to an average Jackie Chan film of the 80s. Annoying, unnecessary editing and little chemistry between the two leads. I enjoyed the drug infused fight scene, but little else. Oh,and apparently Colt started his stunt career in Miami Vice? How old was he? 7 or 8?

absolutely hated this movie. I was really looking forward to a fun, action driven comedy with an emphasis on practical stunts and was thinking of classic films directed by stuntmen like The Stuntman, Hooper, John Wick that really knocked you out and it delivered on none of that while trying really hard but failing. The problem was the tone. It had no idea what kind of movie it wanted to be. Is Ryan Gosling the greatest stuntman alive or is he a complete moron? Can you be both?
I was especially disappointed because I really like to two leads but I think both of them turned in maybe their worst performances ever. I have to believe this was all because of a terrible director.
I know, I know, but he's an actual stuntman! Unfortunately, he's not a director and should go back to his old profession.
What was really shocking to me though is how unimpressive the stunts were. Sure, they were practical stunts as seen during the credit sequence, but they were so poorly shot that some looked like they were in front of a green screen. There was nothing interesting in that area.
BTW, I realize this will probably be a hit but if that happens, it's because of the stars, not the movie.
