Great idea! And you now have a lifetime supply of handles. The Mantis tiller is new to me but after your last video on them, I saw one in a friend's shed the other day and recognized it immediately.
Wonderful!! Had to replace a couple of them pull handles...usually with a piece of wood...but sure like that tubing better!! Not sure why they make them things so small!! Sometimes these inexpensive fixes are the best!
Plain 1/2 PVC plumbing pipe works as well! I also use them on a bucket wire bail as a much better handle than the little plastic bit. Sometimes it takes a bit of straightening and rebending the bail with a pair of pliers, but usually the bail can be shoved thru an appropriate length handle. I like to debur the ends of the PVC pipe. I now use a purpose built deburring tool but I used to use a pocket knife or utility knife just to remove the sharp edges from cutting the PVC.
Hello there Steve!! That's a neat idea for a pull cord handle. It sure would be easier on the hand eh!! Glad your ramps are working good for ya. I have found that off shore products are a gamble no matter what you buy. Take 'er easy!!
@GrampiesWorkshop Hi Mike It's interesting how in the past we never second guessed product quality or even said the word off-shore. I'd be more than happy to see a future where we only have access to products manufactured by our allies and friends and not our enemies and dictators. Yep I'd go back 50 years to a better time .
@@SteveRobReviews I was just commenting to Dave at Old Sneeliock's Workshop about this very thing. It seems to me that China, and offshore manufacturers like you mentioned, have this master plan to get the western world to buy into 'saving the planet' with pollution free manufacturing and lifestyles. And since in their countries the environmental laws and care and concern for workers is way down the list (and maybe not even on it), they can take over making just about everything we need cheaper than we can make it. Then the western world will end up in the can since we'll spend all our money buying these goods that the '3rd world' produced. And before we can stop it, we'll be down and out with no capabilities to even manufacture in our countries any more. We're heading for desperate times. To change it we'll have to spend money on rebuilding our industrial base and paying more for the products we produce domestically. And that will take a lot of hurt to make that happen. Take care!!
Good Morning Sir, that is a very nice informative video and save a lots of money going to the repair shop getting repair too. You finger has been battle damage wound 😇👍Be Well Steve Cheers 👍😇🍻
STEVE ROB Reviews !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good stuff my friend! Maybe a solution on fixing those missing pads, might be an idea for a future video? Be careful with those ramps! Stay safe and cheers!
Now that a manly handle! I feel the same way about some products I have. You have to wonder if anyone actually used them before selling them. Take care Steve.
That’s a terrible thing when you skin your hand trying to get a machine to start. When there hard to start I usually put a drill on instead of the pull cord and that’s it until it’s starting good. The chunk of pipe is a good way to fix the pull handle when it’s giving you problems and I just tried for the first time my new to me ramps on your recommendation and they just worked fine. You now a guy like me, it’s just very hard for me and my big belly to slip under my truck anymore so them ramps did the trick and I didn’t loose them back feet yet but I think I don’t need them with the weight of the truck on there…..CHEERS
@gatorsworld Yes the drill idea works great . The ramps are great compared to using a jack and stands. I have no idea who they built the pull cord for but it wasn't us :)
Used to happen to me all the time with an Old Lawn Boy Two stroke mower! When she started up and ran, couldn’t be beat, but when it didn't, it made you want to “beat it!” 😯 😂
Or worse yet those stupid little handles slip right out of your hand as your pulling on it. My snow blower has a nice big handle on it. Good job on the repair. I'll keep it in mind when mine eventually breaks

Hi Craig
Mantis is an awesome little tiller but the pull handle was built for a 6 year old child 🤣😅

@@wendingourway I agree , thanks 👍
Interesting DIY handle grip. BTW, working gloves help protect your hands!
Thanks , yes gloves are a must have if the pull handle is a mickey mouse design 🤣
I love this hack Steve, saves some skin on your hand for sure. Thanks for the ramp update too. 👍🏻
@@PinetreeLine Hi Doug
It does seem many manufacturers have never actually started their own equipment 🤣
Nice handle hack! I'll have to give it a try. Thanks
@TheDisgruntledMechanic Hi Mike
Whoever designed that tiny handle most likely was molded using 6 year old hand 🤣😅
@@SteveRobReviews wingwang designed for sure!
That is one smart solution Steve. The next time I replace a cord it will get a hand grip update
@RustyGlovebox Thanks Lloyd 👍
Of course! It is Steve Rob after all 😀

My Mantis is a little older than yours,the pull cord comes right across the throttle cable.You got ro be super careful when you start it.
Well that's a maintance maker design forsure :)

@BruceLyeg Exactly Bruce , it's about time the engineers actually use the products they design but most have no idea what their designing 😅
