I'm on my 3 rd Accord my 2005 has 295,000 miles v6 tire rotations every 10,000 miles this car still has most of the original light bulbs oil change mobil 1purolator filter every 10,000 trans fluid mobil 1 every 25,000 3 quarts and yes i change the trans filter thats in the housing every fluid change and old school alignment with a piece of string once a year i do all the maintenance myself

Actually Hyundai makes a very good car and trucks..I actually drive one myself.
It's been very apparent to me since watching techs on RUclips that most all of you own a Honda, Toyota or Subaru. No mechanic wants to work all day on cars then have to work on their own stuff.

Thats why a lot of mechanics cars are in bad shape. They wont touch them till they have to, then do a ton of work on a weekend and then not touch it again till they have to. Rinse and repeat.

@@Longtrailside Actually you are wrong. maybe some are like that but all the mechanics I know maintain there car just as we recommend to our customers but thank for you thoughts.
@@jimthecarguy Thats why i said a lot of mechanics, and not all. I personally am very on top of my cars maintenance. However most of the people that i have worked with in the past and friends let there car go untill they are forced to work on it. Comes down to the person and if they have a passion for working on car or just lazy..
Agreed. My Toyota been great. Kia been great. Glad I chose them.
All of Scoty Kilmer's specials, Toyota. Have 2 Camrys, an 09 XLE 164K and an 07 Hybrid 213K. I am a DIY mechanic and I get so bored with these cars because they don't break enough to justify buying new tools, or even use my own tools. LOL I need to buy a Ford LOL. Final note, KIA and Hyundai are catching up, they still have way to go for reliability but they are snapping at Toyota and Honda's heals.

Thanks for sharing! I have a 2008 Ram 1500 Quad cab 4x4 5.7 hemi bought used with 38000 miles on it fron a dealer in the next town over from Quincy near your old flounder fishing trips. has almost 180000 never left me yet typical maintenance . wish I could affor a new toyoda truck they look nice!

I owned a '91 Honda Civic and drove it for 22 years. Great car. I took care of it though. Maintained it well. It ran like clockwork. I ended up buying a new Civic in 2014. Real pleased with it. Glad I bought mine before Honda came out with their new 1.5L turbo with oil dilution problems.
That is for sure. Don't buy anything turbo.

I remember when the American cars were very dependable and trust worthy. It is sad that that is not how it is any more. You pay top dollar and once you leave the dealer it drops like a rock.Thanks for watching.
Jim,(my name is Jim also)I'm a D.I.Y. & have been maintaining my personal vehicles for over 40 years. over the years I have experienced more problems with the American cars since I've owned a 1989 Plymouth voyager & 1998 chevy Tracker 4wd. switched to 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 4WD&put 146k miles before purchasing the same model in 2008 but with FWD. I'm retired since 2015 (appl Tech)& only drive 4k mi. per year now. The SUV has 101k mi & turned 13yrs old in May 2021. This SUV runs the same as when I drove it off the dealer's lot. For me, these older Hyundai SUVs are fairly easy to work on, as I will keep maintaining This one as long as I can.

TOYOTA. I am a DIY and say. Do your maintenance. Never had an engine or transmission issue in 35 years. Always own them for about 14 years. Drive about 30K a year. 1 Denso alternator replaced in those 35 years. Never replaced a starter in 35 years. Denso is awesome. 1 coil on a 2002 sienna went bad at 228K in these 35’years. Cylinder #1 coil. Brake always last at least 150K. Replaced a Lexus LS400 brakes at 142K and they still had 70% of the pad left.
Daughter was just given a 2010 HHR with 149K and I feel like I have replaced the entire car in 6 months. I am thankful for being gifted the HHR but it has been a project. One issue after the other.
I have a 2011 Camry with 188K now and it runs better with less parts than I have replaced on her HHR.
Could talk more about Toyotas but need to stop before I run out of alphabet.
Honda’s have transmission flaws.
Some of the new Honda CRV with the 1.5 turbo also have trouble with the engine from what I read.
Denso products are made to last a very long time. Now, when it comes to spark plugs, I would recommend NGK over Denso. Even on Toyotas NGK works very well.

Years ago I only owned American cars but today I own all foreign cars. I think if you ask any mechanic they will also be driving a foreign car. Maybe I should post a ride along presenting that question to any mechanic who would like to comment? What do you think?Thanks for watching.
😂 You read my mind. I was thinking “Scotty Kilmer is always saying Toyotas and then Hondas.” Every other mechanic, I’ve met, have said the same things.
Owned a Hyundai lantra for the last 6 years, never let me down and very economical. Owned Ford's in the past and was always under the Hood fixing them. I suppose the upside of owning a car you have to fix regularly is you actually become a better mechanic and better mechanically minded
Driving my Toyota Corolla 2004 purchased in 2006, been 15 years with no problems, just brake, oil, and filter maintenance, and I do maintenance myself because those oil changing stations are a joke.
I still like the older American trucks 1988 to 2006 GMC or chevys , I'm 70 and still enjoy working on them , my wife drives Hondas both were 1.5 turbos' but I buy new ones every 5 years . my favorite truck that I still drive is a 1991 GMC 2x4 automatic short box its dual fuel propane and gasoline ,with the same engine ,I guess the propane keeps that motor clean 448 klms on it. she looks like this now was cheaper to rebuild then buy any new GM or Ford or Dodge pick up , more reliable as well only one computer in it no modules . but I agree Hondas and Toyota are a good truck . ruclips.net/video/-BDUuHcDqW4/видео.html , hello from Alberta Canada

Thanks for the review. Hate to agree, but my families imports rarely breakdown. My Chevy Colorado has had its share of snafus....just wondering Jim, what Older Vintage American cars do u prefer as far as reliability? I had many Pontiacs and they were good to me. Chevy too. Your thoughts ...

I agree they are very dependable. Hyundai did have some problems with the Sonata engines but they did stand behind their produce. If it failed they would replace the engine. Thanks for watching.
I agree Hondas are great except the six cylinder ones that still equipped with timing belts that cost a lot of money to replace. The problem now the newer four-cylinder Hondas are equipped with crappy CVT transmissions or turbo chargers which made them so complicated to maintain in the future.
Your right the new Honda CRV 1.5 liter turbo does have some major issues with the engine.

Yes so far so good but I did get a notice that there is a recall on it
I bought a Kia Soul in 2016 new paid 13.5k. Even with 60k on it now the resale price is great. Only thing that sucks on the car is the gas mileage is only like 27 MPG, and the suspension is weak.I supposedly have a lifetime powertrain warranty and I get free oil changes for life. I just assume the lifetime powertrain is fake and they will never support it past the normal 100k warranty.

I work at a pre-owned car dealership and we usually keep about 330 vehicles on our lot.
Toyota’s and Honda’s will almost never go into our shop for any repairs. But our bay’s even right now are filled with GM’s Ford’s and some German cars. They simply aren’t built to last.
I myself was looking at a pre-owned GMC. Acadia for my wife but the “Shift-to-Park” issue that GM still hasn’t really solved turns me away.

I’m not sure if you have mentioned but I’d like your take in another RUclips video on whether or not you would suggest buying a third party repair warranty contract for a used vehicle?
Have you had any customers with one, if so, was it a hassle for you or the customer to submit a claim and get a covered repair approved...

Jim I tend to agree with you about Toyota and Honda.They are a few American cars that I would consider.The Chev/Gmc pickup trucks.Equinox and buick small Suvs and last the Ford Edge

My 2006 crv has 332k miles.. amazing vehicle.. I change oil and transmission fluid regularly

Wish there was a mechanic such as yourself in my area. Its very difficult to find someone trustworthy.
Honestly you will not go wrong with Honda or Toyota but I have read that the new Honda 1.5 turbo is having engine trouble.I've not seen it yet at the shop.

I agree with you. Toyota, Lexus and Honda are the best for somebody who wants a reliable vehicle. Kia/Hyundai are also closing in. In Sweden this year the most reliable brand according to statistics was Lexus, then KIA and then Toyota. Conventional technology. They seldom go out on a limb and try new things out. Vorsprung durch Technik (Audi) is not what those three brands mentioned normally are aiming for. 🇸🇪🙂

If I was buying new or certified used car, it would be Hyundai Kia. Anything 5 years or older then definitely Honda or Toyota.
always bought AMERICAN mostly gm and gmc trucks they let me down every time now i only bye toyota or honda no more bailouts let them die

It is a shame the American cars are so bad for reliability. They don't look bad. Chrysler has made some nice looking cars but their reliability, from what I read, is atrocious.

The saying goes "Finance Japanese, Lease European, Avoid American" - There is some grey area with this, for example, When it comes to Pick up trucks American companies actually make GREAT trucks. I wouldn't buy a Ford F-150 over a Toyota Tundra, but the Americans DEF make a great P/u!

Very sad when you see federal, state and local buying junk GM, Chrysler, even Ford. I do not consider any of them American anymore, mostly owned and built in foreign country and parts.. I do believe Ford Trucks are good still but prices are insane. One time 10 years ago or more I went and looked at american cars. I dont know about you guys but the stickers on those "american" cars are insane like double the msrp price. I consider myself an excellent negotiater I could not tell what a invoice price is on those brands.Those prices scared me right out of the dealership.

I think more people will agree with you here then disagree! You will be surprised with the feedback! Anytime someone asks me what car to buy I always tell them to see what car their mechanic drives!
That is true most mechanics( not all )will be driving a foreign car or truck.
Newer Honda's are not like their older peers. Toyota's are still tops.

They were better when they was all made in Japan. Only a handful are still exported to North America.
Good cars if you trade every 3 or 4 years. I'd never buy a used one. Parts are way too high and finding a good tech for them can be a challenge.

Subaru is great car, unfortunately not too many mechanics besides the dealer know how to work on them. The specialty shops that work on them charge a premium for their service.
Ford , Chevy and Chrysler don't make hardly any more cars :) Ford is mustang and fusion . Chevy is left with Corvette, Camaro,Malibu and spark with a couple more at Buick and Cadillac. Chrysler is left with charger , Chrysler 300. Seems the big three are getting out of cars but big in suv and trucks . I have a 2015 chevy Cruze , Silverado and F150 both awesome trucks 18 & 10 years old , all high quality vehicles . There's no money in cars anymore as most have given up on buying cars by the sales numbers. Awesome chat buddy so I think any car , suv or truck built in North America is my only buy as I refuse to buy anything else to keep the jobs in north american as the vehicles in my view are as good or better than any offshore vehicle. Scotty spent 45 years fixin cars in his driveway 45 years ago so he's definitely the guy that know his vehicles 😅 General Motors is the largest auto company in north America by sales so sales numbers do indicate people's choice . VW is the largest vehicle manufacturer in the world . After building cars and trucks on the assembly line for 30 years and know how it's done I feel confident in recommending any vehicle built in north America because they build the highest quality vehicles with the best workforce in the world . Mechanics know best. I would not own a bmw or Mercedes either. Plastic cars. Plastic in the transfer case and transmissions is stupid. My mums bought a BMW X3 and I told her she would have transfer case issues and she did at 47K. Had to replace it. $6K dollar fix. Trash is what I call it. You work on them you know what quality is. I am not a fan of Hyundai or Kia.either. Hyundai makes Kia.
