  • Let's learn how to air layer Coleus plants. Propagation: Growing and Rooting Coleus Plants. These beautiful landscape plants can be found growing in all kinds of gardens all over the world during the summer months. Coleus come in an array of colors and will add so much beauty and "pop" to your landscape and garden. These plants are perennial evergreens in tropical locations but they can't tolerate frost and so we grow them as annuals outside of tropical locations. Rooting coleus plants by cuttings is really easy and it's even easier if you air layer them so let's dive in and get started rooting some coleus plants!

      It's very rewarding and a lot of fun. Almost a sure fire bet that you'll get roots on most plants. It also works really well on some trees. As you know, coleus will root well from cuttings too but this was a fun little experiment!

I planted a lot of dawn redwood seeds in bad medium (big chunky pine bark) and to my surprise they have started sprouting like crazy. Should I risk transplanting them early to avoid stressing out their roots and overcrowding, or should I wait them out for a couple of weeks?

    Id like to know if air layering would solve this issue, or is the rose Bush to old to try.
    I give it all the proper nutrients with all the usual suspects before and during the growing season, with mulching during winter months, & cut back in the Spring.

      Roses root very well as air layers. In fact, I have a video going about it right now. I got them going a little late in the summer though so the roots aren't as big as they could be.

    I am wondering if you have heard of Smoke Bushes? We have one in our yard a nice big one, we are wondering if we can propagate them from clippings? We would like to add more to our yard. Also, it has a woody stalk. Thank you.

      We use to have one growing in a big pot and it was beautiful. I gave it to my mother-in-law a few years back because she loved it and we didn't have the right spot to plant it picked out yet. I've read a lot about propagating them but haven't tried yet. From what I've read, it's difficult to do from cuttings. That doesn't discourage me though and I will eventually give it a try. The method that seems to be most recommended is from seed.

    Hi Mike, thank you for sharing your helpful videos 🙏🏻
    I wanted to ask you a question about a lime tree which I planted from seed about 9 months.It has one branch currently ,does it need to be pruned to make it bushy?

    • @MikeKincaid79

      Yes, cut that branch back and 2 or 3 new branches will grow just below the cut.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 года назад +3

      Inexpensive is the tough part. My favorite top of the line LED right now is made by Chilled Tech. They are a little spendy but the lights are out of this world good and will perform great for 10 years. They have a new light on their website that's just 1 42 inch strip and puts out 160 watts. It's $249. They have another one that's a little cheaper at 65 watts for $159.

      Yes, it works with just about any plant. Some people overwinter them indoors as small houseplants and then take them back outside for the summer. It's just a fun hobby so I guess it depends on what you think is a waste of time, lol.
