He was a "hands-on" personality...and his were very heavy hands indeed!
Peter was driven by the urge to modernize Old Russia. He wanted
everything new and up to date. His methodology was often brutal and
insensitive but many of his goals were achieved and he gave Russia a
kick into the modern world.
