Child care for just $10 a day? She can’t be serious. I’ve just enrolled my baby in a child care program that costs $1430, which breaks down to $65 per day, starting from September 2024. I was told that I am one of the fortunate ones to find a spot.
She and trdo complerely disconnected. No such thing as 10 dollar day daycare. It doesnt exist. It costs at minimum 100 dollars a day to tax payers.
Meanwhile we have parents in Alberta paying $30/month. Thats like $1.50/day!! I cannot even imagine what this horrible program is costing taxpayers
I run a dayhome in Alberta. I have yet to hear of anyone getting childcare for $30/month. There is a government grant that all parents are eligible for. The secondary subsidy is based on income.
I have a question…. If $10/day childcare is implemented, who pays the difference in the fee for childcare? For instance - full time childcare that would cost $1000/ month before subsidy, who will cover the cost of the remaining $990/month/child??
Childcare educators have a high demand from the government to work harder, put on more hours for planning, cleaning, meal prep and standards for the facility as well as conferences, courses and many of them come with no funding. Childcare educators are going to have a hard time keeping up with the demand of costs going into childcare costs and facility upkeep with no extra money coming in. This is already making daycares and dayhomes shutting down because they can’t keep up. Pretty soon there will be very limited space in childcare facilities and waiting lists lengthened. It’s going to cause a big upset.
You are not poor enough to get $10 a day. You are one of those unlucky middle class Canadians that gets to pay for other people's kids.
Childcare is privilege. No one forced anyone to have kids.

IE: 150K average home price, average household income 60K... that's a little less than 3x. Now, average home price in the GTA is 600K-700K+, average household income $80K. Almost 10x.

The really important thing to take away from this budget is that the RCMP warning may well come to pass if this inept government continues to be blind and deaf to the needs of Canadians and refuses to acknowledge their mistakes.

Add up the dollars of the Federal government deficit since 2016-2017 budget, shown on the Federal budget balance bar chart.
The 2020-2021 year is an exceptional year, instead let use the average of the other years since 2016-2017, omitting the 2020-2021.
The Justin Trudeau government has managed, so far, to add $324 more debt to the Canadian government balance sheet!

I'm not understanding how this budget helps middle - low income Millennials/Gen z get into the housing market. The amount needed for a down payment @ 5% is closer to 25% when compared to our parents purchase price, meanwhile our wages are stagnant. With the cost of inflation/taxes Canadians cannot afford to save $25k when our rents are averaging over 50% of our income.
This is what happens when your finance minister knows nothing about Economics!
