It's the opening guitar riff (which i think sounds hella great and is a sexy riff) that is repeated at different parts through the song..mixed with distortion hence being kind of a rock'n roll feel. Then the softness comes from the vocal melody (as he isnt singing too harshly, but a nice blend of rasp and smooth). It also has a blues feel to me too!
