One of the reasons why Spike is one of the best characters in tv history is that he interacts with every character of the show in the way his relationship to these people is. He has a different Connection to each of the cast members. He speaks to Joyce in a different way than to Giles for example

That "I'm evil" line is so redundant and cliched that it's hardly something anyone in the Buffyverse (at leas for the Scoobies) could even take seriously. A reaction to that would be not of shock and horror but something almost nonchalant, underwhelming feeling of 'well, this is just great' been-there-done-that type. lol Which is why it works as a comic relief. And it's funny considering that the character(s) delivering that line says it so proudly with a hint of 'duh' that explains a lot as to why feel like they can do whatever they want and not feel bad about the consequences of their actions. But then when you think about it, in the real world, those who brag about the whole 'I'm evil' deal and get away with it, don't deserve any spotlight... but it's always amazing how much fictional characters can make evil appear great and more appealing than those who play by the rules.

@@Cliohna Um, you do realise that even those who have a soul who do evil things are far worse than those who don't? Like the evil lawyers in Wolfram and Hart who don't mind if the innocent get killed in order to fulfill their duties. Vampire or no vampire, with a soul or without it, if they're capable of DOING evil, they are the worst sort. The thing with these vampires and demons is that since they are mainly supernatural creatures, fictional at its best, the weight of their evil deeds tend to be lessened because they are expected to be just a certain way, it's almost one-dimensional. They are deemed evil because they delight in doing things that are the opposite of what is good. And I disagree on that last statement about Angelus and soulless Spike or any evil character: people find them just as appealing, if not more, as their benevolent counterparts. When Angelus first appeared on Buffy (Angel was out), I think people found his character to be more interesting and worth-watching. Or at least he seemed more exciting despite the terrible things he had done to Buffy and her friends. Just sayin.
Spike was/is ICONIC! Honestly better than Angel. I loved how he saved a chick but instead of telling her everything’s okay he was real and said “In this neighborhood I have half a mind to kill you myself”. I live for this and I’m researching all of Buffy now.
