But I asked myself the question of how we got from the rocky launch of this game to where we are today and decided to make a video around it. With a little Absolute Pixel dust sprinkled across the video obviously :)

False, I find it highly unlikely that you are deceased as a result of his joke as you would be unable to write a comment about it and if it is not you but a relative who is quoting you after your untimely demise i doubt they would do it with such short notice of your death as they would likely be grieving for at least a month before writing an explination if your death.
I have a friend who practiced on the harpoon for 2 hours and now he barely misses. He has saved me from sharks and players many of times.

I think sea of thieves is respectable for having microtransactions due to a one time purchase and also everything is only cosmetic so no harm done and no pay to win.
Yeah, another game I loved, Absolver, had further development canceled because the devs only made money from the initial purchases. They started losing money, but didn't add paid DLC or anything like that. Hell... I'da payed for it too...

@@kell2883 well I appreciate your opinion, but I believe that the story is fine as it is, the newest update being quite nice and in all honesty, fun. 2 player Brig reasons:
Intimidating other slops
Waiting for freind to join
Faster
Sloops are not intimidated by Briggs. The fact that there are so many two-man brigs is the exact reason why it's non-intimidating
The Brig is technically faster but takes longer to turn and is not as nibble and agile as the sloop because you don't have a third person helping to turn sails etc. You're especially not faster when you get anchored and can only use two people to raise
At the end of the day it's tactically disadvantageous to dou brig
My wife and I duo Brig only when we are just running voyages. Wish you could run more people on a sloop though
also brigs are EASILY managed by 2 people.
@@franzbauer1367 Agreed.
@@Odande I disagree. It's easy to not get anchored if you know what to look for.
Brigs are almost as fast as galleys so you catch sloops fast. Plus the harpoon allows you to hook up to sloops making their maneuverability useless.
I prefer a brig over a sloop but lately we have been to lazy because the brig does add more work to run.

That's it's part of the game is a valid reason but not that its about pirates because pirates didn't kill that much people in reality. Pirates mostly attacked merchants and they just surrendered. Thats it's core of the game that you have to live with but pirates didn't really do that stuff but neither did they sail on seas with only other pirates or fight against skeletons.
The game has been so stale for so long that Pvp is the only thing that is fun.

To be fair though, the game is making no additional Revenue aside from purchasing the game, especially with the game on Gamepass, making it free to play
i mean there are actual free to play games which don't require you to purchase anything, this is not a free to play game.
@@sympunny8636 what f2p games do that? Every f2p game I have seen has some sort of alternative revenue stream.
@@SDNative1980 quite naturally there are normally alternative revenue streams but sometimes either there in the form of adverts or simply cosmetic items that have no effect on gameplay. A famous game like this would be league of legends, doesn't cost anything, constant updates and cosmetic items are the only thing that's more difficult to get without spending money but not impossible, I've played hundreds of hours without spending a pound on the game so it's definetely free to play whereas sea of thieves you have to purchase immediately making it not "free to play" then there are micro transactions within the game itself as well. The game itself isn't bad but calling a game with an upfront price "free to play" is slightly strange.

I agree. This game has gotten so much better, without us players even paying for the improvements we get on the updates. And the things you buy has absolutely no importance, it doesn't give you an edge in any way, it's just a bit of fun.
I don't like micro-transactions, never ever paid for one before, but I don't mind this one as much, and I think I might even just buy a couple of things just to support the continued work that is being done on the game. The amount of fun I've gotten for the money I payed, makes me a very grateful pirate.
Dean McCallister i do that. i get sunk and killed quite often then i get sad and cry about it (off mic of course) 😂😂😂 i just want to sail, do my quests and voyages in peace and be left alone lol
For me and my friend, we so 2 persom sloops for thr two cannons. Often times a sloop v sloop is a long battle for whoever runs out of resources first, if you dont have gunpowder kegs. Now a brig v a sloop, is much easier with double the cannon power. I havent seen anyone put this reason yet so I thought id throw this out there. Great video!
Thats the only pro when doing a 2 man brigg ye got 1 cannon more all the Cons a 1 sails take longer to put up or down 2 the Anker takes way longer to get up and 3 2 People on each cannons means 0 People watching for ladders pretty much a easy target to kill
That's why your ultimate goal is boarding / killing and not endlessly shooting cannonballs until someone runs out. That's a very ineffective tactic against any matchup.
You had me until you said Festival of the Damned was bad. It encouraged a lot of the best player interaction I’ve ever been in and brought some much-needed color into the seas.
I will admit, I used to be a hardcore grinder that would hate get sunk or stolen from. But when my friend got the game, he encouraged me to be aggressive. When I was grinding progressing was slow. But after a little while in pvp, I went from level 30 to level 44 in like 2 weeks. If you wanna be good at pvp you have to act like you have nothing to lose. If you think like this you can do riskier things that players don’t usually expect and sink them immediately. Also it feels good to be a 2 man sloop going on a rampage against 3 man brigs and 4 man crews
I love how this video makes me feel like I play Sea of Thieves on the regular, even though this is like one of five videos I’ve ever seen of it. Also, Norwegian gang.
I do love the way they approached micro transactions though. The micro transactions are purely cosmetic, and you can find skeletons in game that can give you their premium currency. Then for their plunder pass, most items are free, but you can buy the premium version and get a few other cosmetics, basically as a thank you for supporting their game.
I dont mind loosing all my loot. I just dont understand what the point of attacking a ship that just spawned in is.
I don't understand attacking a ship that just spawned in and hasn't even got a chance to get ready. However, as soon as a ship starts sailing then it's fair game. PvP in this game is super fun, that's the point of attacking ships with no loot.
@@Kezsora as long as you can admit that you're kinda being a dick by sinking someone who's got less than half the amount of people, isn't looking to fight and has just spent 5 - 10 mins stocking their ship, then yeah fair play aha.. I wouldn't mind a mode for grinders that (at the cost of 75% money and rep) would allow people to spend an hour or two on the seas and actually have something to show for it...
Kezsora But what are you getting out of it....because soon it’s going to be boring doing the same shit over and over
Well once my crew had done that because we were looking to sell our loot and were filled to the brim with it, so we did not want to risk sailing around any longer and since sinking a newly spawned ship is an easy way of ensuring the safety of our loot, we went for it.
My friends and I usually run a fishing galleon that stays nearby seaports. Ppl always try to sink is until we show them we have literally no valuable loot nor an emissary flag. If they do sink us we essentially keep ramming our newly spawned galleon into them over and over again until they sink or leave the server, then we go back to fishin'

Congrats, my norwegian friend!
Here comes the biggest fight that the community has had from the beginning - PvP vs PvE players.
PvP players hate on PvE players for working together with others and call out "It'S CalaED Sea fFOF THIeves not Sea of FRiends!!!11oneone"
PvE players hate on PvP players because they chose to play as aggressive pirates.
I find myself in the middle because I enjoy the best of both worlds.
Respect others for their choice in style of playing the game. If you can't do that, then why should you have the right to be left alone with *your* way of playing?
SoT since release has probably been my most favourite game there is so far, and the devs have made some great choices and improvements. I simply can't wait for more.
I agree with this. I'm a PvE player but I understand that I risk my loot sailing in waters with potentially hostile pirates. Sometimes I get annoyed but I respect that it's part of the game. This is why I learned defensive tactics instead of moaning on some forum. This way, I can enjoy PvP if someone tries to challenge me. If they beat me, they deserve the loot.
(Also tall tales was great but 5 times per mission for those commendations? That's an F minus for Rare in my book)
See, the not having the option to opt out of PvP thing is the main reason I don't play games like this. I can respect that people like that aspect of a game, and I'm happy they found a game they like. I will just choose not to play a game that doesn't match with my tastes (no matter how much I'd be all over it if that one aspect was removed).
@@beanstheclown Then SoT is unfortunately not the game for you.
I like being a spy and allying myself to a crew before backstabbing them and taking most of their loot with me in my sloop. It's fun.
This is why many pve people left SOT and rust. The community literally screams "Screw off" at every opportunity, at some point the game will die, maybe not now, but it will happen. Let's hope PvP players keep coming in and not get chased off from playing the game

Bout brig crews. My friend started to play sot 2 months ago, before that I always play as a solo sloop. After sometime he wanted to see other ship types, seeing in combat that brig was having no problems running away froms us. After playing on brig and getting full sails he really loved it, so now I have to 2 man brig cause my friend loves going fast and none of our friends liked the game. ALSO GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS
I just got this game about a month ago and one of my favorite things is to steal from all the veteran players and sink every ship I come across. No leveling system and total balance makes this game really easy to get into quickly. Any tryhards in this game are forced to rely on pure skill if they want a one up on anyone (or a bigger crew). This game is a treasure and the best pirate game I've seen.

Pixel, the reason you see 2 player brigs more then 3 is because of a mind trick. If you were on a galleon, you are more likely to sink to a full crewed brig then to a full crewed sloop. Even if there is only 2 on the brig, seeing the brig from a distance will give a different reaction, thinking the brig if fully crewed, making the risks are higher than a sloop. Its essentially to make other ships not attack. Most sloops will not attack a larger ship, since they have more members then you.
SUMMARY: 2 player brig makes you think there are 3 players and you want to attack it less even though its the same amount of people as a sloop, which you would most likely attack.
ALSO: I was on a brig doing Shroudbreaker SOLO because my 2 friends were late/AFK. I fought off a skeleton galleon and another big AT THE SAME TIME.

this game is for nearly completing tall tales before getting into a 30 minute ship battle, one of your crew members leaves mid fight, so you gotta jump off with the two dang gems in a chest and stash them on an island to come back for, just to both get caught in a kraken and both sink in a blaze of glory. a brig is better in almost every way IF sailed right. it can be done with two players.
I solo play with the Brig. Kraken is the Kryptonite of solo Brigging though.
A duo sloop is actually the strongest ship in the game if both players are excellent. It being so nimble just opens up opportunities that even the most seasoned pirates can't physically do on a Brig or Galleon.

@@connorclark6553 i believe
Come to think of it, if I ever start a game company, we'll start every day by watching videos like these to get inspired an get feedback
@AbsolutePixel
I'm pretty sure that pairs of players have started using the brig due to the addition of the chainshot. If you're on a sloop, you get hit ONCE with a chainshot and you may as well just scuttle the ship to save time. The sloop's main advantage is its speed and maneuvering abilities, and if you take that away by disabling the ONE mast, your ship is now stationary, fragile (as it literally says in the "sloop" description in the main menu), and only able to fire back at a little faster than one cannonball per second. Having two masts as the brig gives you _much_ better odds.
People do a two man brigantine because when it has wind and at full mask, it's actually faster then a sloop at full mask and that has wind, plus the anchor can still be raised fairly quickly as a duo
As a Norwegian, it's always fun to hear people speak norwegian in english speaking videos
From your sense of humor, I knew you'd have to be from the northern parts of Norway, and your dialect confirmed it
Veldig gøy å plutselig høre norske ord i denne videoen! Veldig godt jobbet dude :D
normally in a open crew your more likely get 2 people to actually stay long enough for a decent time but normally the 3rd person will constantly leave unless u have a decent amount of treasure.
If you still wanna know why 2 player briggs: My friend and I play together most of the time. First benefit is that a third friend can always join in. Second benefit is that we can both shoot because there are 2 cannons on each side. Third benefit is the sailing speed of the brig (the sloop is slow as hell; no way I'm gonna take the sloop even when I'm playing alone). When we start with 3 people we usually take a galleon because then we might do missions in Devil's Roar where the Galleon is nearly immune to volcano damage. Hope I cleared things up for you ;) Main thing is the sailing speed

On the question of the 2 man brigs, I normally do it because we find it easier to use. More space aboard, extra cannon on each side and intimidation tactics. Usually it switches between 2 man and 1 manning them. If you know what your doing they can be as good as sloops
2 years later and the game is almost a whole game, wowee!
2 player brigs because you expect a 3rd player to come on in a min, but then another person wants to join so you have to join a galleon. That's usually what happens for me in a 2 man brig
*Sloop vs Brig as a Solo player:*
Sloop I like if I plan on playing a long time and attacking.
Brig I like if I'm short on time and intend to run. Plus it''s an intimidation factor against other solo players.
A solo brig is not a terrible choice and for things like merchant alliance it can be better then a sloop speed wise.
*note* you really need to be on your game to solo a brig. There's not much down time to have a coffee or pee on the move xD
when i play a brigatine with only 2 people, i usually do that because i'm making sure that a friend can join
Still waiting for rare to add the sails in the thumbnail
Hey Pixel! Are u gonna be one of those peeps who uses a brig for 2 players. We got all of the monthly updates!
yup i am a grinder and yes i dont like being attackt while playing solo but the yoy of coming up on top after you won from someone who fired first and afterwards take his loot is a nice feeling
Dude my favorite kegging was when I took a fortress keg and jumped off the nose of the ship onto theirs, and blew it on the staircase where it created holes in their lower deck and took out their mast at the same time.
6:56 That's got to be the best pirate i've ever seen.
So it would seem
8:28 I sometimes do open crew brig and usually there is that ONE guy who leaves after 5 minutes
As a late update to this video, I play about 3h of the game or less per day. If you're lucky you can find up to 1 ancient skeleton (Skeleton that has the paid for currency) every session or two. After a week of playing casually I was able to purchase a pet and an outfit to go along with it.
Me and my friend find the brig better than the sloop in some situations (when we're playing in a duo). It's not really hard to control and both teammates can fire the cannons at the same time! If you're good, you can manage the brig with just 2 people.
Im seeing this the day the new title cards have arrived. Such a wonderful moment. 1 year later but they made it nontheless lol.
