Great video I’ve used garlic and condensed milk since I was a nipper in the 1960s Use scored garlic cloves as hookbaits You can also use tea and coffee in ground baits as well as garlic and chilli pastes
Brilliant little video joe ! it's got me thinking i've probably got lazy with my fishing. We used to use a sprinkle of vanilla and red food dye in our groundbait. Turmeric in maggots like you've suggested, this actually came about due to the bronze additive getting banned because of negative health effects. Digestive biscuits crushed and mixed in with groundbait. Thanks for another thought-provoking video 👍🐟🐟🐟
Hi Joe, red cake dye works great in your micro pellet, vanilla extract is also good. from the supermarket pepperami is great for the feeder fishing on a hair rig. Great video
One of my great joys of fishing is finding things in the supermarket to try. I made boilies at a fraction if the cost that work on the waters I fish. It also add another dimension to my hobbies where I don't necessarily have to be bankside to enjoy my fishing.
Hi Joe, Black Treacle is a good one !! I pour it from the Tin, into a squeezy bottle. It's a lot thicker than Golden Syrup. + There are Baileys copies for about £6. (Cheap, Red Bull copies as well)
Hi Joe, great video. I've used liquid coffee sweeteners, hazelnut and caramel being favourites. Fish sauce from your asian foods supermarket is terrific👍
What's intriguing about additives is whether or not they last in water or just get washed off, which begs the question just how acute is the olfactory system of fish. Well, supposedly eels and sharks can detect minute amounts of blood in water, so maybe we over do the additives, 'coz it smells good to us humans? Would worm extract, for example, not be the best as it is so much more natural to fish? Bloodworm additives too would make a lot of sense. Probably, the thing to research in terms or liquids and sprays is to find ones that can be proven to cling to the bait in water? When it comes to chub fishing Joe, I can recommend garlic sausage, and meat in general, as they have the flavour 'built in' so to speak...oh and cheese paste too! Tight lines buddy! You've come a long way since that first feature we did together many moons ago.
Ay up Ian! I agree that anything we can get into the bait rather than on the bait is way better in my view. I also think stuff with food value is better than say a confectionary spray or flavour. But guess there is no right or wrong as long as you have confidence. Hope you are keeping well, I have that feature on my office wall in a frame 😃
Used to boil a couple of cloves of garlic in with my hemp! Along with salt ! Far cheaper than tins ! , definitely great advice for good additives and far cheaper!
Nice video Joe, it shows how theses supermarket items get used in fishing every so often. I've used turmeric, curry powder, chilli powder and flakes and other kinds of spices in the past both on meat and maggots to attract fish. One that you did forget was jam/marmalade as I've caught carp on them when used with bread for a sweet taste if I used a bread paste years ago

Baileys and nesquik powder mixed together over a low heat then added to bread crumb to stiffen up the paste makes a great alco-choc bait, add a small amount of salt and even some betaine to the liquid too during the heating stage gives it an extra edge when it's all soaked up by the bread crumb paste
Hi Joe, sandwich/sealed bag with coffee mate, Castor sugar and table salt. Lob it in ya bait bag you can mix it in with your groundbait, soak for micros or chuck it in with your maggots as and when you want very cheap very easy very effective. Condensed milk( you can buy caramel condensed milk too) carnation or even cheap brand evaporated milk.. mix them with some water to loosen can add, drinking chocolate, vanilla essence( any extract flavours coconut, orange etc) and whatever booze you fancy. Great to hear you’re giving it a try. It has been mild so the cheese will naturally melt slightly in the water. If you retrieve carefully you should feel it come off. That’s how it should be so you miss less bites 👍🏻 I wouldn’t worry too much about the garlic I’ve given it a miss on this years recipe and caught plenty. I do find cheese paste works much better in colder coloured water and it’s been exceptionally mild of late. I much prefer boilies when it goes mild these days.
I use salt, msg, shrimp paste (trassie, belachan) fish sauce (nam pla) and knorr stock pots. I was also told CC moore's feedstim XP is basically bragg liquid aminos but have not bought it yet.

The list is endless. I think the fishing industry like to make out there using some far superior fish friendly version but it all stems, from human grade ingredients so fill your boots
Having been involved with the bait industry there are lots of things they do use that are a bit special in fairness or are certainly developed for the fish rearing industry to promote and trigger feeding. There’s also some rubbish stuff! Some great fishing additives come from bait companies and some great ones from supermarkets and animal feed places 👍🏻

@@peterhudson9590 yea it’s something extra to try isn’t it. The good thing is I’ve never really found an additive to do my bait too much damage. Well other than a carp flavour I tried once and I liberally applied it like the weaker match versions and it even ruined my pellet pump
They love peach flavoured boilies, I do know that. In keeping with the supermarket bait theme, a 34p tin of Aldi peaches liquidised and added to groundbait could be a real winner as a Tench attracter.
aaggh, stop eating it! rofl. I like to use maple and molasses. TF Gear used to have this as a liquid mix when Mr Hayes was with them, and it pulled the rod off with a method feeder when mixed into the groundbait. Hard to get hold of these now as not a lot of people do them.
