Thanks, Jeff, yep got an error way out in the wilderness, luckily I had the WD40. By the way, your kayak reentry video came in real handy when we had to get a 75-year-old back into his kayak. Thanks for all your info greatly appreciated.
Do you know anyone who still makes a rock guard for the 403? I reached out to innovative sportsman and they no longer make them. Obviously it is best to run one but will those motors take a good beating before they get destroyed? I am very easy on my gear so I always make sure to pull it up in shallow water even if I’m not hitting just to be safe but I fish a lot of rivers and I do from time to time bump a rock. Thank you again for the content and knowledge!😊
One of the service techs said that dielectric grease traps dust/dirt, which interrupts the connection. Shooting WD-40 through there blasts out the dust/dirt.
Why no grease on the connections? I have had problems with the handset not recognizing the battery giving me a error code and dialectic grease helped. I clean my terminals with mass airflow cleaner. It's for automotive terminal connector Cleaner.
I did it a long time ago. It made things worse. I sent it in for service because it kept giving an e 30 error code. They scolded me for not using WD-40, performed the same "soft bristle toothbrush and WD-40" cleaning demonstrated in the video and sent it back. It worked perfectly. I can't explain it. I just know what works. WD-40. If you prefer do foul it up with dielectric grease to see for yourself, by all means go ahead. WD-40 works. You probably have a can already. Use it.
I actually inspected mine, found that I had some fishing line in there, and was nervous about there being damage to the seal. I sent it in for service just to make sure. Yes, around year 5, they should be serviced to put new seals in. Nobody has owned an Ultralight 1103 for five years. My prototype in the video is three years old.
I'm looking at a travel 1103c myself. Reading through a bunch of posts in boating forums, there are quite a few posters complaining about various 1103 failures and I'm trying to figure out if its things like lack of maintenance or inherent reliability/build quality issues. I've even seen posts in which they claim the battery failed. How might that happen? Have you seen that?
I have a few batteries for both the Ultralight and Travel. I’ve not had issues with them. I did destroy a charger though. I got mud in the plug where the cord goes in. I didn’t notice it. The current flowing through it cooked the plug, but the battery was fine. I cleaned the plug with a toothbrush and WD-40, got a new charger and was good to go. One nice thing with the Torqeedo is that there are a bunch of service centers for warranty claims and repairs if you do have an issue.
@@TheLittleStuff Thank you, great to know that the batteries can be reliable. And that's simple maintenance - brush & contact cleaner. Are you attaching galvanic anodes? My intention is to use 60/40 salt water/fresh water and haven't seen instructions on how to install.
You must use the 915 Watt hour battery that it comes with. It's IP-67 rate waterproof. It has a GPS unit inside that communicates speed to the throttle and is part of the constant remaining range calculator. That can not be done with a non-Torqeedo battery.
Use kontakt 60 (contact cleaner), great video.

I’m glad that it helped. I’m publishing one tonight that covers that and more on big water kayak fishing safety.

I do not. Sorry.
I used dialectic grease as well. Be interested to know the reason not. Great vid thanks

Very helpful video. The company that makes torqeedo gives no advice on maintaining motor. Is there a rock guard for the 1103 CS?
Yes, Innovative Sportsman makes a rock guard for it.
Thanks for sharing
I hope it helps.

What about the service every “5” year for the gasket? As i saw some guys had saltwater leakage issue into the motor

Can you use an other battery or are you locked down to these prepackaged battery?

CRC Contact Cleaner?
WD-40.
CRC® QD® Electronic Cleaner Not WD40, which will attract dirt
