With no problem if the router is moved or something? My button seemed quite loose if I removed the spring... Great tip if it works! Mine have been rock solid since my little fix...
Same exact problem with an Asus RT-N66U -- switch failed by itself without even being touched and in an area free from vibration. Hey Asus, think you could maybe not cheap out on poor-quality, crap switches next time? Thanks Thomas for the video!
@@studiotvar Especially when the power button isn't in any way necessary to the design because people don't typically physically switch their routers off, and can simply unplug the router if they are. If they were worried about the power connector wearing out, they should simply have put the money they wasted on a crap power button that dies within a few dozen presses into a slightly better-quality power connector instead.
WTF- Don't even need to watch the video to confirm this is the problem, but did like it. I was like this can't just be a broken physical switch (that never gets used) on a wireless device I never physically touch. So googled it to see if I was doing something stupid. Other than buying a POS ASUS device, nope, not my fault. Now the question is do I follow a hack to force a wireless device to stay powered on in a closet with expensive equipment... Don't think so. Fortunately, its replacement is already powered up and working... I think this calls for my HD eraser, aka 10 pound sledge...
No need to open it up. Hold the power button down and ram a toothpick down the side of the button until it snaps.
Omg. Thanks man. I just shoved a toothpick in there and didn't even snap it off. Just a couple mms in. It holds. You are awesome.
Thanks for the toothpick tip! Genius.
Now thats an excellent hack! Love it!
Me myself I'm having a hard time NOT picking stuff apart though... ;)
Flawless hack. Cheers m8! 😄👍🏻
I love the internet (and you)
Thanks for the info. This saved my ass. Also good comments from all. Some good thinking out of the box...
Just remove the spring, no need to stick anything in there, the button would stay in ON position w/o the spring

Thanks for this video, worked fine for me. I used one of the bottom rubber pads to force the power button to the on position
A M brilliant! 👏👏👏
This exakt problem happend to me the other day so bought a newer RT-A66U.
The old one will now get a fix and be used as an backup.
Got an upgraded connection my self so I’ve switched to an RT-AC86U. Works like a charm!
OR ... you can use my brilliant technical quick fix, a cable tie. I hope ASUS are ashamed of themselves.

A really stupid thing to save a few cents on. Crappy power buttons!

An excellent choice of eraser! 🤣🤣🤣
