A very high majority of players around the world aspire to play in Europe. Most, if not all of the teams search the world, scouting and recruiting players from all over. • @roelli79
      @roelli79 3 года назад +31

Basically, he was extraordinarily talented in the first place but suffered a growth hormonal disorder (he was only 1,40m/ 4 ft 7 at the age of 13) which cost appr. 900 USD a month for treatment. So aged 13, no team in Argentina was willing to pay for treatment and therefore refused to let him join any club. So Messi's parents turned to Europe and asked FC Barcelona if they would give him a chance. They invited him for a try out training and were stunned. He was taken under contract, got his medical treatment and got the best football player of his time there. Barcelona paying his medication is also one very important reason for his loyalty over more than a decade when he declined to play for any club but FC Barcelona. He still is pretty small for a football player with only 1,70m/ 5 ft 7, by the way.

He kept on breaking records and impressing, he now claims he is happy in Manchester but he never fails to mention Barcelona is his home and favorite club.

That was one of the best reactions I've seen here on RUclips, especially coming from someone who doesn't know much about soccer, or football like how we do call it here. You really took your time, drew meaningful comparisons to the sports you already know and practice. Your interest was heartwarming and there's certainly no shame in asking questions.
You made a lot of essential points: he indeed has a knack at finding space where there's seemingly none and pierce through a defense. His chips above the goal keeper are his trademark, in accordance to his playing style which is based first and foremost on efficiency.
That means generally no fancy tricks like Ronaldo, the Brazilian one, or Ronaldinho (I absolutely love both) for example. Just a combination of simple body feints, directions changes and nutmegs, combined to an almost godly ball control, unbelievable execution speed, space awareness and finishing. Make no mistake though, his ability to take on two, three, four players and more is out of this world and there aren't many, even amongst the greatest, who are able to do it.
You also spotted his incredible passing ability, sadly not highlighted enough in this video, and an essential component of his game, even more so now that he lost a bit of his pace and isn't able to make as many runs (he's 34 now) as in his younger days. The records he and his 'rival' Cristiano Ronaldo have set in the last 15 (!) years, in terms of goals, assists and rewards are unprecedented on a club level and probably unlikely to be repeated again.
All in all he is one of a kind, a genius who won absolutely everything at a club level. He also just won the Copa America (football tournament for the South American national teams) and the FIFA World Cup is the last trophy that still eludes him. Either way, he will be up there alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for the next decades, if not centuries, in terms of who was the greatest footballer to ever grace a pitch. We're incredibly lucky to see them playing live and should enjoy it, because both of them only have 2 maybe 3 years left at the highest level.
Finally to answer your question regarding the FIFA World Cup: it is the most sought after title alongside the Champions League. In the latter, the best clubs in Europe are selected, based on their results in their national leagues and are included a tournament based on group phases and knock-out games. The CL spans roughly a season, from August if you include the pre-qualifying games until May of the next year).
The FIFA WC happens every four years (the next one is in 2022 in Qatar, Messi's last chance to win it) but the qualifiers begin three years before. Here from Wikipedia:
'They are held within the six FIFA continental zones (Africa, Asia, North and Central America and Caribbean, South America, Oceania, and Europe), overseen by their respective confederations. For each tournament, FIFA decides the number of places awarded to each of the continental zones beforehand, generally based on the relative strength of the confederations' teams.
The qualification process can start as early as almost three years before the final tournament and last over a two-year period. The formats of the qualification tournaments differ between confederations. Usually, one or two places are awarded to winners of intercontinental play-offs. For example, the winner of the Oceanian zone and the fifth-placed team from the Asian zone entered a play-off for a spot in the 2010 World Cup'.
Cheers, looking forward to your next reactions.

No one really tries to hit a free kick through the wall, it’s just hard to get the ball over the wall without it going over the goal as well when the wall is 10 yards from the ball. To qualify for them, each continent is spilt up and the countries get divided into leagues, and the winners of each league qualify, along with some of the runners up, who can progress against runners up from other groups. The system is criticised because continents with lesser footballing ability can qualify if they are better than the rest of their continent instead caries which are better an them in better footballing continents, although it does mean you get more representation from the globe which makes it feel more global.

Hey, not sure hows your quest at learning about football is at, but here are some infos:
1- Messi is from Argentina, so he plays for the argentinean national team. He just recently won his first world cup title in 2022 december, so now his "trophie collection" is full.
2- For most of his career he played in Barcelona, which is a spanish club team, and it was the best team of the world for years while Messi played there. (Champions league is basically the league for all the "club champions" of each country - to decide which club team is the best in the world.)
3- European football is considered the best worldwide, so these big club teams scout for super talents from the rest of the world. Thats why he was not playing for a local team in Argentina or so.
4- Messi has been a top player from 2005->present day, so his consistency and longetivity is just out of this world, thats why he is considered as the GOAT.
5- His dribbling skills are the best I've ever seen in modern football, no one even comes close.
6- He holds a ton of individual records in football, there is no point writing them down here, you can google them. He won the most "Ballon d'Or awards: 7" which is the most prestigious yearly award which goes to the best player of the year.
7- When looking at his stats you also need to value the amount of assists he gave, and great team chemistry he creates with his humble attitude. Ronaldo might win in some stats against Messi, but there is a reason why he is a lot less successful overall.

Both scores with 2 legs, head and are more creative when it comes to skills and drible, in another words, they dominate more aspects of the game, even tho Messi is still very effective. And there's Maradona as well that for me is better than Messi. Both got the same style, left leg and they drible really good between short spaces, but Maradona was way more explosive and he was great both in Club and National Team. @24:40 They were Cup Champions & League Champions. Both in Spain. I'll try to explain the difference (valid for every country)
    1. League Championship: Every one of the teams plays agains all the others gaining 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw & 0 points for defeat. At the end of the season the club/team with most points (and most goal difference in case of same points) wins the League becoming Champion.
    2. Cup Championship: Here it starts with a draw (from a "hat") to set each two teams (from 2 or more leagues) against each other where the loser is "knocked off" and the winner is set in a match against another "winner" team & one team loses and is knocked off until there are only two teams back who play for the cup and the winner in the final is Cup Champion.
I am not an expert so please anyone who finds a fault in what I've written: Correct me & get my thanks.

So in each country, you've got a league and a cup. League is when everyone plays each other over the course of a year. Cup is tournament knockout.
Then the Champions League is the top teams in Europe the previous year enter a knockout tournament.
So if you win 2 of them, it's the double. 3 is the treble

    So many questions.
About the sometimes 6, sometimes 5 or 2 titles that you saw:
League: each country has a national league where the teams of the contry compete. In leagues teams play eachother once or twice in a year. The Spanish league is called La Liga.
Cups: Spain also has two cups, Copa del Rey, where all teams in Spain play (La Liga has 20 teams, Copa has 100+ because it includes the smaller teams from lower divisions. Teams eliminate eachother in a bracket system, so you might only play one copa game in a year if you lose inmediately). And the other cup is the Supercopa, which is just a match between the Copa del rey champion and the La Liga champion.
International cups: The mayor one is the Champions League, a cup between the top teams in Europe. By reputation, the second of third most desired trophy to win. Then they won the European super cup, against the winner of the Europa League, another cup competition of lesser caliber. You can't play the Europa League and the Champions league on the same season.
Lastly, they won the Club World Cup, which is played by the winner of the mayor cups of North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and a host club (usually from Japan or an arab country). It's not too important nowadays, but it was very important in the past. There you go, those are the six trophies you can win if you play for a european club. Winning all 6 in a rare archievement.
Then you have international football, played for the nationl teams.
Argentina plays the Copa América, between south american nations, and every 4 years, they can qualify for the World Cup, the most prestigious tournament in the world. Every continent has their own competiton. Like the Euros going on right now. But these cups are not related to the World Cup. You qualify by playing a different kind of competition, called qualifiers. They are different in every continent. Europe uses groups an then play offs, but south america is made up by ony 10 nations, so over here we play a league over the 3 years leading to each world cup, we play eachother twice, home and away. It's very tough.

  • @bushchat28d

In terms of who is the best, Messi or Ronaldo, you need to consider one thing. Messi plays with and for the team he's in, Ronaldo plays for Ronaldo. There is no comparing the two since Messi is so much better in just about every department of the game (excepting maybe heading the ball).
Regarding the 'double' - almost every nation has a football tier system of several leagues - usually the highest quality is known as the Premier League - or in the case of Spain, La Liga. In tandem with the season long league-based competitions there's a 'cup' competition, wherein ALL teams get to play for the one prize, irrespective of what league they are in within their country. So for example you have the FA Cup in England and the Copa del Rey (Kings Cup) in Spain. In Spain they deliberately pair the top teams against the bottom teams from the start as a way of generating cash for the smaller teams - but invariably the final is between two teams from La Liga. In England its slightly different as all the smaller teams play against each other until Round 3, when all the top teams join in the competition, so usually there are several match ups of minnows vs giants - and once or twice the minnow has won - but inevitably, the whole competition is won by a team from the Premier League.

He plays for the team as much as Messi does. Quit that bs

When they talk about ‘league and cup’ they mean domestic competitions. A treble in England would be the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup. If you won the Champions League as well then it would be a quadruple. When they said 6 titles it would include others which aren’t really that important.

i have watched football in general since i was 6... coming from the middle east and growing there... it's just like how football is in south america (can get deadly and go extremely wrong )... now i was a child there... i watched messi, ronaldo, roney... etc etc etc... what u notice in messi specifically is that he does things literally anyone can do... but what makes him the most excellent is his reaction... this man goes against the defence... the defence knows exactly what he is about to do.. where he is about to go and so on.. and most the time.. the defence misses everything... u can see him dodging many players with very simple touches... u see him escaping just by very little time... and winning the ball leaving the defence on the floor... beating his reaction time is something that seldom can be possible and if it's possible it isnt bcz u r a good defence but its mostly bcz messi isnt full messi yet or at that moment.... messi doesnt do tricks in most times.. or the tricks he does aint hard at all and anyone can do them... he just does them much faster than a normal player can imagine... this is why he is just the most perfect player of all time...
as one of the players commented on messi "if you go 1v1 against him.. u r dead.."
