  • Christian unity is massively important. This passage teaches us how to have Christian unity when we don’t agree about everything. One of the most amazing truths we will see in this verse by verse teaching through Romans 15 is that unity isn’t just about you getting along with other Christians. It’s about the glory of God!

    Wow!
There are sooooo many gold nuggets of wisdom and practical life prescriptions in this message.
I almost didn't listen because I didn't think the topic as compelling as some others but I am blessed and motivated by the importance of this issue.

I was really encouraged by what you said. Around the 33:30 mark about how judgment on you used to be. Ten years ago and twenty years ago etc.
I recently read a book called, l"ove covers:a viable platform for christian unity" By paul billheimer. He basically said it's a terrible sin when we don't accept those who God has accepted.
And he talked about the points we disagree about in the Bible. And how God could have easily clarified a few things to avoid some of this disagreement, but he did not.
The authortheorized that maybe God did that on purpose. So we could learn to love one another in our differences..

Awesome is the word I would use also. You did a very good job of establishing how awesome it is when Gods people are unified. Ive walked with the Lord and really try to apply my daily reading of God's word. The Spirit gave me a new perspective on these verses. Thank you for your obedience in bringing this.

v.5 “be like-minded *toward* one another”, perhaps is meaning thinking equally of all believers, not thinking more highly of some over others. We’re all fallen & rescued by the same Savior.
The like-minded here has a direction, “towards”, as if Paul is referring to how an individual regards others in order to help us be more unified.
It’s almost the means and the ends: Be like-minded towards one another so that we can be like-minded together in our glorifying of God.

Thank you for your faithful and systematic teaching, pastor Mike! It helps to learn to learn Bible alongside learning the Bible :)
This particular topic is often so difficult to bring to practise! How (pragmatically taken) am I supposed to live out unity for example with a church where pastors have a really, really arrogant attitude and even call the congregation "organization" rather than the body of Christ etc. How to live in unity with a mother who is a born again christian but also has a narcissistic personality disorder and continues hurtful manners because of that. Or when there are so many people having problem with ishtar-easter in the church but at the same time most of the church wants to memorise Jesus' work for us and celebrate resurrection and so on and so on.. Practical issues are real and so hard to decide even heart would be there.

Hi Mike Winger, Thank you for making this teaching available online it's been very encouraging for me at this time. I watched the video on Romans 14 yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. I have had discussions with people about avoiding that which is worldly. My question to them has been what is it we should be considered worldly? My opinion is that worldly things are those sins / sinful desires that are common to the world. What is your understanding of worldliness and do you have any videos that already cover this topic?

Piggybacking off my comments on the Romans 14 video...
My experience has been that the strong (in faith) try to convince the weak by saying things like, "but we're free!". I do not want to assume that their own consciences aren't fully convinced, and therefore they feel defensive of their freedom...perhaps because someone once convinced them. Also, the strong seems to DEMAND that the weak unify with THEIR license/freedom, instead of laying it down in order to love the weak. They just do not know this is what God says to do.

Mike, could you expand on how we, as the body, handle differences when it leads to full denominational separations? (Example: baptism...full dunk or sprinkle...) Just looking for more Word to guide this, if there is a way, toward unity.

Yes, honestly I want to be united to the Catholics, to the Eastern Orthodox, to the Lutherans, to the Reformed, etc. I am a non-denominational Christian, and I would love to have a real fellowship where we all agree to disagree, and see each other as brother and sister in Christ.

I cannot recall if this video or the Romans 14 video is the one you made the statement about how conscience can make something clean unclean, but not make something UNCLEAN clean. How does that apply to eating pork?
I get the biblical idea of having liberty to eat as long as we dont KNOW it was sacrificed to idols. But pork was once an unclean food. Has it been made clean? Could you do a video on this, or link me to one if you already have?

    • @michaeltorres1263

Yes, it was made clean by God in a vision that Peter had in some of the early chapters of Acts. Check those out.

I don't believe the conscience and the scruples are what is causing so much division in the body; but rather the lack of understanding of the word of God.
I have seen for myself that there has been more division caused over what the word of God says, and it has more often been because of two or more people reading from different Bible versions. Whether people want to admit it or not, the changes in the words DO change meanings. In my opinion, that is a prime example of Satan's handiwork. And probably his best, being our worst.

What an interesting take on consciousnesses, but what about practicing discernment or the more you develop a relationship with God the more you hate sin? Pretty loose preaching imo.

you make a lot of this so called conflict between the strong and the weak....yet I don't think I have ever seen this issue...there are a lot of reasons, for disunity....this only being a small part, of it....

How many Christians today know the God that they are supposed to worship and serve? Which God did Jesus tell his followers to pray to? How many God's did Jesus pray to What does Jesus rule over for a thousand years? What do the weed Christians teach? What is it that is wrong with some who say Lord, Lord? Mathew 7 : 21

it seems that you need to step back, and encapsulate your idea, of study, of the Old, and New Testaments.....these insights seem to be unique....to the extent that not many are looking at both of these sections, of the Bible, in the same manner....
