Although mowing is not essential, it is a good thing to do. Here I get a mower going that hasn't been used for approximately 7 years. I hope you enjoy!
Kid you have the right attitude. Nice to see a young person jump right into a project with good mechanical knowledge and willing to get his hands dirty and continue learning. You'll never be out of a job as long as you keep your health no matter what career path you choose. And remember enjoy your job and you'll never work a day in your life
Take good care of those mowers. I owned one it was a dixon ztr 4515b anniversary model 15hp vanguard single piston engine. 50inch cut. I miss that mower it was my grand father's mower I had to sell it and regret it. It did its job to help me kick start my mowing side hobby. That mower had bearing issues but it nvr let me down ever. I do anything to be have it back. Take good care of it. Keep them. Worth it.
My first zero turn was an old Dixon, looked like a flying saucer. Bought it for a guy that was retiring from his hobby of collecting Dixons. Great machine.
2 great things about this video.#1 you're dad raised you right. Tought you how to be a man.#2 that is a cool mower. I've been in the lawn maint business for 32 years and never seen a dixon zero turn. It looks easy to work on. I just found one on marketplace for $500.00 I'm thinking of buying it. Looks simple. Not allot of unwanted fancy componets. Great job young fella.
i could use some advice about the wiring on that mower i have the same one and its hard to find any diagrams on it its the same engine as yours on the 427 ztr fb460v Kawasaki ??
Hi Reuben, I just recently acquired a Dixon ztr 428 only one model ahead of your 427. I’m having trouble with the left steering giving out. Chain fell off the first time and after putting it back and it working for a few minutes, it now seems like something is slipping and it won’t drive the left wheel at all. So I can’t go forward but only turn right on the functioning right wheel drive. Any advice? Thanks!
Yes it sounds like either the shear pin, or the nut has fallen off. I have had that issue before on mine. You need to look where the chain goes from the large sprocket on the wheel up to the small drive sprocket. There should be a nut on the end of that shaft. If you take that large nut off behind there, there is a I think a 5/16 square shear pin.
No sir! Still has the original and has been working great for two summers now! Those friction cones are really loud, but it is possible there are bearings starting to give out too.
wow you wont believe this i bought the same mower from a guy recently with the same engine it is an awesome mower but i have some electrical issues i could use some advice on ???? all you have to do is look at yours if you still have it ??? sweet 1987 i love it
there's a special type of gasoline for small engines with a lot of the unnecessary hydrocarbons removed, no ethanol and the manufacturer claims it burns cleaner and doesn't go bad. pricey though - www.aspenfuels.com/
In my opinion, the ethanal is the main problem with modern fuels used in carbureted engines. The ethanal itself actually pulls water from the air into the fuel if I understand correctly. I in general don't like ethanal since it's so subsidized by the government.
Let me guess, your mower bogs down when you engage the blades? I actually gave the other mower away to my brother, and he got it going. Unfortunately, there seems to be something wrong with the deck, the afore mentioned problem of bogging down.
Beautiful! I have two of the same mowers. You have given me the courage to work on them. Your Dad must be proud. Your parents raised a great kid!

Your facial expression when it sparks up is priceless! :-)

Picking one up tomorrow. Good job young man.
So, how does the new rig work for you? I am in Minnesota, so no need for mowers right now.

Miles I love your video you are the best keep the video coming
I edited this video together instead of mowing my lawn yesterday. 😂 Funny that fixing it could distract me from using it.

A true Swede! way to get it goin!
Sad that Dixon is no longer making mowers.
You're pretty handy with a wrench 🔧 for a young man .
Well thank you! I'll take that as a compliment!
I’m getting one of them today

On mine, the actual nut had fallen off, and as a consequence the keyed square shear pin had fallen out.
Did u replace the spindles or spindle bearings? Bcuz that grinding and howling is definitely from the deck lol

What size deck is it? Nice
Nice job on a low-cost refurb to an old Dixon friction-drive, zero-turn mower. Wheeee.....
I need that
What exact model is this??? Please anyone????
That first mower has friction drive
it's the ethanol in the gasoline that makes it go bad, right?

Ethanol is a huge scam, it takes as much or more fossil fuel energy to produce it from corn as you get out of. Crony capitalism at work.
Would you be interested in selling that other deck?

No but thank you the deck just has a probably 6inch hole in the front of it
What is model number
1:35 🤣
😬😆😂 It's a habit.
Finnnaaa reeeeee
Why don't you just get all new parts for it
Because $$$.
