    How interesting. I also was trying a new approach on language, going from the simple idea: how does a baby learn the language. First the baby is in the belly, and he only hears vague noises, maybe intonations. When he is laying in the crib, he hears all kinds of babbling around him, but has absolutely no idea what it is about. After that when the baby is a few months, he will probably notice that some sounds are repeated a lot and correspond to an event, like "Eat !!!" or "oh no he vomited on the carpet again." After that comes a phase, just like the video says, of simple questions to be answered yes or no, like "hungry ?" and the level of questions rises very slowly through the years to become more complicated. When the child is years old, he still only knows a limited amount of words that relate to the direct household environment, and slowly it grows from there.
    This experience can be replicated for adults. It requires a lot of exposure to the language because the child is all the time in the language, and so it could be a great idea to put on a Russian TV channel or radio (which was not possible in earlier times, which might have been why this method was never used). Just letting it run and not even understanding a word, is repeating the baby in the crib phase. I've tried this for a while now, every morning and evening doing some Russian words but not focusing but just some youtubes or childrens cartoons (a lot of alphabet cartoons exist), just letting them roll by. Not any language bashing the words in my head at all, nothing like that. Google is also useful because it has a language voice capability, so you can add pronunciation. I'll just look up some household words like what I am using right now like 'keyboard' and listen to it a few times and then forget about it. I'm not sure this method will work in the end, but I do think it will. Somehow I know a bunch of Russian words already, without ever really trying. When you listen to the Russian radio or TV, you will suddenly hear a word you know, and that reminds you again of it.
    There is a great amount of Russian language stuff on youtube, enough to see something new every day.

    I’ve been learning Russian for a few weeks now but just found this channel today. I feel like you are giving better advice than most- I basically know the alphabet, and am learning verbs and yes charts for changing words. But will try your way as focus now. Repetition of words in context of a sentence is what I will try next. Need some inspiration. Thanks 🙏

I am starting to thinking I will never learn russian. I even can't understand what others say to me. This language is just too dificult for me :(

      You.aIways_lose channel You'll never learn anything with that mind set. Learn in blocks. Be confident and don't give up.

    • @Learningtoknowrussian
      @Learningtoknowrussian  9 лет назад +15

      +You.aIways_lose channel It is tough, indeed. BUT patience and persistence will help you overcome this devastating feeling of losing, 'cause you are NOT losing and definitely NOT failing. This is just a part of studying and it concerns any subject or field. Learning in blocks is a great approach. Don't overwhelm yourself with every aspect of the language itself and do not try to learn every little bit at once. You will get there, so keep up! Anyone with enough patience can master any language ;)

      I taught myself advanced Spanish, but living in Latin America for 4 years. I moved to Ukraine 2 months ago. Russian is a whole other league compared to Spanish!
      .
      Watching all these clickbait videos about 'learning a language in one month' etc, and examples of how they did it, is very discouraging and not believable btw. Makes us feel like idiots that we can't even learn basic in 2-3 months.
      .
      I've given up completely twice, only to come back 2-3 days later, fresh and confident again. I think thats a good strategy when we get frustrated. Break for a day or two. (Prettiest girls in the world live here, and ZERO of them speak English, so it can keep one motivated).
      .
      I used to get angry at the language, and my response was to study more. 4-5 hours a day. That doesn't work. Can't absorb anything with such long hours and negative mindset. I wanted to strangle the people who let the language evolve in this direction. Dogs survived, and communicate just fine, for 22 million years with only a couple dozen bark tones. WTF?? Why do we need 12 words for 'water'. Seriously?
      .
      I've recently developed a lazy 'I don't care' attitude toward my learning, and find myself absorbing more. I try to convince myself that I only want to learn the basics to get by in society, when in the back of my head, I want to be conversational. Like Alcoholics Anonymous teaches members its daily affirmation that "you dont have to quit drinking forever......just for today". Im developing that mindset for learning Russian. Small bites to make it tolerable.
      .
      I like your approach. Trying different methods. Classroom style is horrible. I would rather run on a treadmill than learn any language actually. So jealous of people who enjoy it, I hate the process of language learning.

    • @Learningtoknowrussian
      @Learningtoknowrussian  8 лет назад +1

      Totally agree! Classroom kills one's motivation. Probably you should radically change your approach. Russian is difficult, but not impossible to learn!:)
      Good luck, Denis

    €£¥{}##❄️ I'm trying to learn Russian but this is what it looks like to me...I've learned some of the alphabet, but the way to put those together is completely different....just trying to learn the language of my ancestors....it's tricky....I've learned more from gaming online than anything. I'm also going to work for a Russian family, and I want to learn to speak it, Bc I hear that they greatly appreciate it. I mean they did learn English and move to my country, I could at least learn their language too.

    I am tryinh to learn Russian but the grammar cases are KILLING me !!!! Also, I disagree with your statement that you can't learn any language simply by listening and repeating. Growing up, my parents only spoke to me in Spanish. I repeated and listened- no writing. However, I formally learned English in school (spoken and writen). Now I take Español para hispanohablantes 2 and I do well in that class so I am confused as to what helps and what does not because I am eager to learn Russian. I even dreamt about being in Russia!!!! Please help

      Yes it is an initial hump to get past, but In some ways it is easier than in English - the pronunciation is more predictable once you learn it.
