Thanks so much for watching and enjoy it, you are going to have a lot of fun and it is such an easy to use machine that it almost doesn't need explanation.
@@NostalgicExplorer got this Machine (black) in Like new condition this week for 60 Euros. I'm looking forward to getting to know this simple device better
Hi and thank you so much for watching. About your question, it can't directly change its program using MIDI Program Change messages. However, it can recognize these messages and record them. As this can receive and record all kinds of MIDI messages, sequencers in general usually don't respond to messages (except to record them), but the MMT-8 can respond to some special ones like Song Position Pointer, Start, and Timing Clock. These messages can be used to control playback from another device. I hope this answer to your question!
Surprised there isn’t more love on RUclips for these machines! Great video, so simple to use. The one thing they are missing is a step sequencer, which would be useful for drum programming. Always thought they could have used the HR16 shell with 16 pads for that. Oh and they aren’t always so reliable. I never do too much on mine without Exporting to MIDIOX or similar! The dreaded blink and then it restarts like nothing has happened minus all your sequences!
Recording volume is too low. I used to create lots of dance tracks with this unit. I added an old Roland drum machine and two synths and took them out to pubs and did live mixes with flashing lights. Made enough money to buy better kit but the MMT8 stayed with me for years. This was all 33 years ago though.
Had to go and look for it. It was a Boss Dr Rhythm DR 550. Mine had a strange fault. With the official power supply, you would get a mains hum so I had to run it on rechargeable batteries. Remember one night frantically running down the street to a supermarket to buy batteries after one of the rechargeable rolled off and then under a stage! Imagine an EDM gig with no drums!!
Hey Gabriel, it's pretty flexible with how you can use your tracks. You can mix and match different parts, as long as each has its own MIDI channel. Plus, you can record and store data on multiple MIDI channels for each track. I hope this helps you to clarify your question. Cheers!
@@NostalgicExplorer Hi, I am new to midi sequencing. so If you are using one synth to sequence different voices of the synth, you need a multi timbral synthesizer right?
That was a problem with this machine even back in the day, it is a great machine and today there are a lot of updates to make it more stable. Let me know if it worked.
Hey Jedson, each track is polyphonic, when you're tweaking chords, it's pretty much like editing single notes, except they all kick off around the same time (or close to it), depending on whether you've quantized them or not. You can also record multiple MIDI channels on one track.. This machine is old but still very capable of doing cool stuff with it. I hope this information helps.
Best sequencer ever made. I’m on my second and plan to buy the retrokits RK08.
Yes, I am also looking to buy the Retrokits RK08 and actually you can pass sequences from the MMT-8 to the Retrokits for backup which is amazing!
You are absolutely right. The most logical sequencer ever. I've tried everything and there is nothing better.
I just bought two MMT’s and managed to get one of them to work! Thank you for the simple demo, I love watching these things work.

Fantastic Video, thank you for the demo
Hey! Thanks for watching 🙂
NICE ☺♥♥♪
Thanks ✌️
Wow did so much with this when I was young... Great to see it again. Great video 🙏🤙

Sweet video, explains device capabilities very well. Can you transpose these sequences via keyboard or note message during playback?

Thanks and it still surprises me.how easy is to use this machine even today. And a step sequencer will make it even nicer.
great throwback gonna dig mine out the cupboard and go retro with a korg xl and a boss dr and the mmt8 thanks for inspiration

That's the beauty of electronic music. You can be on your own and your synths. Do you remember the Roland Drum machine's model?

@@BarryRatteryou went light with the DR 550. And oh boy! I had that kind of pressure with other things and the stress is real.
Sounds great. You could score an old Dr. Who episode with this combo!
Hahaha indeed.
Never used the MMT-8 but I do have Retrokits modern interpretation, the RK-008. Great bit of kit.
That is a great machine with more capabilities than the MMT-8
Autechre used to use two of these in their livesets, I’ve never seen Aphex use this thing.
Love both of them. They are some of the ones why I make electronic music among the classics like Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode.
