    I enjoyed the confessions! Precision is not my goal. Enjoying the process is my goal and why work hard when you could work smart? Thanks for the video!

    Thank you for all your videos! I bought your book as well! I hope to start my mosaic journey someday when I have time but for now I am just learning when I get a chance here and there with your videos. I am interested in making ancient style mosaics maybe with a modern touch but ancient looking

      Thanks for this. That is exactly what I find myself drawn to. I think ancient mosaics are endlessly fascinating and if I can I find any excuse to immerse myself in them. 😍

    Great ideas. I especially like the self adhesive metal tape that can be textured after applying. You solved the problem that's been on my mnd.

    Thank you for such brilliant tutorials you have been a great help to me in just starting out. I love making the home made mesh substrates that you do. When i use these i prefer to do a subject but no background how would you grout around the edges of these?

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Год назад +1

      You are so welcome Julie! If you are not mosaicking the background then I would use method number 4 in this video - basically apply a thin layer of cement based mortar/tile adhesive/thin set (= all words for the same thing) to cover the empty space.

    Dear Helen, thank you so much for sharing your expertise! 😊 I would like to arrange a house number on Jackoboard and would like to protect the rims of the board using the glass fibre tape method. Should I then cover the back of the board with mortar as well in order to prevent the tape from coming off? I appreciate your help ❤

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Год назад +1

      Yes, covering the back of the board with mortar would be a good idea if its going to be outside and exposed to the weather.

    Enjoyed the video. Thank you. One query. Is lead tape made of lead and toxic?

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Месяц назад

      It is made of lead (or it least it describes itself as lead tape) but there is nothing on the packet to indicate it is toxic. I agree most lead is, so maybe it's coated in something to stop the toxicity?

    Thanks so much. I have had trouble going the easy way on edges coming off when I used grout. The latex and adhesive looks much better.

    Thanks for this and your other videos! I guess you would apply the lead edging when you have finished the mosaic?
    Thanks, Ann

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Год назад

      Yes, exactly, I put it on after making the mosaic and grouting. The lead tape doesnt stick to the edges if they are grouted/covered with adhesive.

    Great videos! Quick question, can the finish with thin set and latex be done just to the edges once the mosaic is completed? I used the wedy board and applied thin set to the entire surface.
    Or should have I applied the latex+thin set to the entire surface instead?
    Also, any advice on how to draw once the thin set has been applied to the entire surface?
    Thanks

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  2 месяца назад

      It's a matter of choice whether you want to apply the thinset/latex to the entire surface or just to the bits where you will be applying mosaic. It is difficult to draw once the thinset has been applied to the surface, so I don't put a layer of thinset on the board before I work but only apply it in small amounts as I go along so I can always see the design. However, you can use a sharp instrument to etch into the layer of thinset which will work as a guide.

    What if I already did the mosaic and then realized I need an edge?

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  3 дня назад

      You can see if any of these solutions would work with the mosaic you've already completed. Most of them are added at the end anyway, so you should be fine

    Hi Helen, happy holidays! On method #4, is it required to add the 50/50 latex liquid, or can I use just water by itself?

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Год назад +1

      Hi Rozy, you can use just water. Dont forget that if you live in a cold country the dried tile adhesive might get efflorescence on it - a salt bloom - and the latex will help you avoid that.

      @HelenMilesMosaics  6 месяцев назад

      You mix 50 per cent latex with 50 per cent water and then add that to the tile adhesive. Ie half and half (latex and water) mixed into the tile adhesive
