Happy Halloween. 💀 It's October, so it's to ramble about an old, very niche horror game from 1992: The Legacy: Realm of Terror. A game that I have never heard about until GOG released it on their storefront.
Realm of Terror plays much like a Dungeon Hack, or an Eye of the Beholder. Basically a dungeon crawler, or rather, a "mansion" crawler. A very interesting idea to combine dungeon crawling with horror elements. The game itself is heavily inspired by the Cthulhu mythos, what with eldritch Gods and monsters that can drive a human being mad with insanity. This is a fun game, with not too many frustrating elements other than the puzzle and quest designs. I'd love to see a remastered/remake version of this, but unfortunately it looks like this is the developers (Magnetic Scrolls) last game.

I'm so glad people are still finding this game.
This kind of stuff is really prime remake material. Where devs can take the awesome central idea and get rid of the clunky old sucky elements.
I would love a remake of this one. Despite the clunkiness of being an old DOS game it got me to do another playthrough.

I had this on my 386 as a kid, didn't have many games so I spent countless hours trying to figure out what I was meant to do. I died a lot.

Ah, The Legacy. I have bounced off this one several times theoughout the years, but I have been always fascinated by it - great to see that someone had the strength to push through the end. Looking forward to seeing this video.
It's definitely fascinating. It stuck in my mind even when I first tried it on GOG years ago. Great theme to it.
Just want to say this channel is really awesome. Its hard to find good reviews like this of DOS games and the like that aren't from at least 7+ years ago. I hope you keep doing this sort of thing.
On a related note if you're in the mood to get really wild with it, Exodos is a really good collection of lots of pre-configured dos games and manuals , including a lot of interesting forgotten and rather obscure ones, like the "Ancients" series of blobbers. There were only two of those made, and the second one is notable for having been published by Epic Megagames, aka Epic Games.

This was my very first pc game along with THE ELDER SCROLLS ARENA and RAVENLOFT STRAHD'S POSSESSION when i made the switch from my Commodore Amiga 500 to a Intel 486/33 DX. It was like jumping into a horror movie with a ultra creepy dungeon crawling mix. Its great to see similar games have brought the genre back with such titles like INFLICTION and THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT. The pacing was great as it transitioned perfectly from a haunted house setting to a more lovecraftian setting with creatures from another plane of existence. The sound effects were ultra bizzarro and ghastly with some great music like something out of a end of the dial radio station on Halloween. Dungeon crawlers back then were also very terrifying with the likes of BLACK KRYPT, DUNGEON MASTER and the gore rich ELVIRA games.
Another very similar game to this one is REALMS OF THE HAUNTING yet different enough to be its own thing with a more Christopher Lee witchcraft movie feel.

I really like this game. Still in my head after my playthroughs. Also looking to dive into Ravenloft Strahd's Possession one day, hopefully.

@@Voidbrand Thanks, GOG is wonderful for these old games keeping them alive and making such things as DAGGERFALL UNITY or mods possible for more of these classics.

Of a less silly slant, hrm, I hadn't heard of this one before. I admit, fantasy dungeon crawls don't do much for me in theming anymore, but Cosmic Horror? That has me intrigued, thank you.

This game would've spooked me back then. I played a lot of horror games and I can believe that. Definitely a memorable game.
I actually had the big Screaming Box of this, as a kid. Use to terrify me. The manual was a damn tome. I absolutely love this game, jank and all.

Wow this looks like an interesting game! Maybe non the best ever created, but very intriguing. I like resident evil and dungeon crawlers so i guess its time to try it
I had a hard time playing it years ago, but the theme of the game was interesting enough to pop in my mind every once in awhile.
Bought this when it first came out but I don't recall getting very far. Still have the game box within reach but no clue where the disks and manual are.
Pretty tough game. Curious to see how much a complete box goes for and even this game is pretty expensive.
@Voidbrand It's surprisingly expensive on Ebay even for an open box complete copy. Wish I still had all the contents!
