I like that she admitted that if your succeeding in one area of your life...you may be failing in another area of your life....or at least it feels that way....
Amazing! I love the part when she said " when i am being successful in one part of my life, i am being a failure to another part of my life". I can relate to her as a working Mom. Shonda is very honest in all her words. Thanks Evan!!!
Awesome to know that you have learned those things from the video Daniel. :) Always #Believe in yourself and take action even one small step at a time to achieve your dreams! Much love. #BelieveNation #BTA324 Shine
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts robert. :) Yes, we should conquer our fear - be #Brave and always #Believe. All the best to you! Much love. #BTA375 Shine
The timeliness of finding this is phenomenal. I just had this conversation with my 86-year-old aunt, a very wise woman. She said, Lanie she calls me, don't forget to pick the apples while you still have the energy to do so,she said. She said this when I talked about how much I enjoy working part-time instead of full-time. Her intention was to make sure that I have what I need for my future many years hence. But I knew what Shonda knows: the fact that I play a little bit more enables me to love work more, be more, be a great mother- And most importantly the woman that I want to be and share with the world. Thank you Evan, thank you Shonda!
I love the idea of finding that Hum that Ms. Rhimes spoke about. I struggle with believing in myself and finding my niche, my passion, the thing that will keep me going, but I won't give up. I will push myself to find out, To never give in when facing a difficult situation but to Try, Try and Try again. Thank you for this!
"I struggle with believing in myself and finding my niche" You don't have to find your niche. You are your niche. Just be yourself. There's no one else like you.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching Judith. :) Yes, we all have our limitations but we will still keep doing our best. Much love. #BTA324 Shine
This woman is truly awesome. I don't watch television, so I never heard of her before now. Despite that, still I notice the creativity of the Shonaland creator. She is alive with character. I think she would excel as a stage actress. Wow, I mean, wow. I'm really blown away, and she's not even acting right now, she's simply giving a public speech. Yet, it's as if she's in character. Look at the audience. They are spellbound, hanging on to each word released from her colorful lips. She definitely has taken possession of what belongs to her like a BOSS. Bravo! "Says yes to what scares you".
Thank you, Evan Carmichael for creating this! It made me cry a little... I don't cry very often. As a business woman, writer, blogger, mom, wife, and philanthropist in my community... I can relate to her saying, " ..When I am successful in one part of my life... I am being a failure in another part of my life." I have learned that no matter what I do... I always feel guilty... guilty for taking the yoga class instead of being at my kid's school project. ...Even though the yoga is what keeps me healthy and sane... Keep shining Evan... looking forward to more of your creativity.
Thanks for sharing your feelings Sharon. Glad you can relate to it. Yes...I guess mothers will always feel that way but as also said by Jada Pinkett Smith (ruclips.net/video/NmXk2qmNRW0/видео.html) it's also important to focus on YOU since when you are happy...your family will be happy as well. :) Always #Believe in yourself. Much love. #BTA343 Shine
"if I am being successful in one part of my life, I am almost absolutely failing in another." that hit me hard! It's nice to know that we can't do it all. To do one thing is to give up another, but there is a balance. Shonda seems to have that balance and her kids will be better for it. I have more respect for her, not just because she wrote my favorite TV drama of all time, "Grey's Anatomy," but also as a person and model of success. thanks for posting this man!
Thank you for this Evan. I was in tears listening to this. This was so relative to my life when my children were little. Shonda gives me such inspiration. #8 Own who you are...My favorite. You have to be truthful to yourself and accept YOU for who YOU ARE. That doesn't mean that you don't need improvement; it just means that you have to start right where you are and then grow from there.
This video is my sacred meditation for this morning. All of what Shonda says resonates with me. I love doing my “passion” work, which entails planning and filming RUclips videos of the multitudinous things that bring me joy. I stopped writing, the reason for which I will discuss in a coming video. In short, I, too, adore my “passion’s work.” Number One pauses me, straightens my back. It reminds me that I don’t like showing up for the other jobs that take me away from my passions. I don’t enjoy “playing” if it takes me away from my passion for too long. This video and Shonda’s other talks on RUclips return me to myself and gently instruct me to listen, open to life’s simple pleasures and love more. Don’t begrudge the other jobs, for they are a part of my journey. Thank you, Evan, for this video, which I have gift wrapped and zapped to my network!
For my journey, the most inspiring things that she said is "I have a global brain." My brain works that same way and I am constantly told that I can''t fix the whole world, yet to me, everything is connected. What I do affects everything else. So, I always look to see the chain reaction of all I do and say. Thank you Shonda for finally letting me know that I am no just crazy!
Totally agree with that. :) Thanks for sharing it with your "Women of Double Honour" group on Facebook...I hope the members will all learn from it. Much love. #BelieveNation #BTA324 Shine
Shonda Rhimes is my inspiration she’s a joy to listen to and to embrace. I resonate with her, her work ethic and her talent. Love the fact that she is a Capricorn and of course a black woman #BlackExcellence
"I told her how I felt, she told me who she was" I literally just experienced this exact situation so listening to her say that just now really resonated with me.
How do you do it all? Shonda's answer, "you dont". "If ur succeding at one area, ur failing at another." #Truth Thank you for sharing this talk Evan and Shonda. A mother of 6 and a successful business owner myself I struggle almost daily with trying to find that balance with my love for business and family. Trying to be that perfect person to everyone all the time. I know now that you cant and u will mess up in one area and it's ok. Dont be so hard on urself. Keep going and be ok to mess up and succeed at the same time. My one word #Love. Just completed chapter 3 and i got my one word :)
I loved the WHOLE thing, but as a former single, now remarried mother of three, that became four, #3 made me tear up a little. Thank you for this. Didn't know she was so cool.
I've been too distracted or busy to look at anything more than 7-8 minutes. But, I was able to sit and watch Shonda Rhimes give a superb life shifting speech for 31 minutes and 17 seconds. I totally admire her, lol.
Captivating and quirky, cerebral and loving, honest and intuitive, Shonda is a force to be reckoned with and her wise words are to be heard, thought of afterward, and hopefully applied to one's life. Loved this episode Evan! Thanks man!
This woman, can keep your attention for more than 1hour!!!! That"s epic! She is Words..She is poetry ...she's a living book!!!! wonderful and inspiring.. Once again humility has proven itself. Thank You Evan
So inspiring to hear from a fellow single mom (of 3 kids), to hear about her weaknesses and strengths, and how she is great role model to her kids. Thank you for this, Evan.
If I were a Principal of any School or College, I would book her Every Year as My Key Note Speaker....This Video was Truly Honest and Amazing....I needed This!
Jahnes love. This was great. I love how she talks about the hum inside of you. And she said my most favorite phrase "it's just love...". And my favorite rule is #9 Don't shy away from difficulties". Blessed love.
Truly the voice of a perfectionist. A genius always think that they should be doing more than they should. However I am glad that you were able to give the world a bit of your creative genius
When you succeed in one are of your life, you might be failing in another area. This made me recognize my fails and emphasize the areas that I am truly striving in...
I love all of her comments, however I think my favorite is, "Don't shy away from difficulties" because we are still afraid as we try to avoid it. At work I have to do webinars, I was so nervous that I was horrible on the firs webinar. I have to do another one next week, don't laugh but they are only 5 minutes long. I have decided Iam going to do these webinars no matter what, because I must conquer this 5 minutes of fear. Therefore this is my favorite.
Thank you so much for creating this content. It is driving something in me to Do Better. For my son, for my family and for myself. Listening to Shonda Rimes and Viola Davis has been enlightening to say the least. "Work doesn't Work without Play!"
Glad to know the videos are helpful to you Carlos. :) Thank you very much for the appreciation and for recommending it to others. :) Much love. #Believe #BTA465 Shine
It is incredible and inspiring to hear such a successful, extraordinarily talented person honestly admit to having similar insecurities as many of us then she conquers them! Thank you so much!!
#1 and #3 are great tips. As mention by Ms. Cruz in comment section, I like what Shonda stated and I am paraphasing 'when I am succeeding in one part of my life, I am failing in another part of my life.' In life you must sacrifice something to get something. You cannot do everything and have everything. That is life and once you understands this, you do not have to beat yourself up about missing out.
Number 3 was powerful. She kept it real and it totally makes sense now. "If you are succeeding in one area then you are failing in another. I felt the same...Trying to do #dadlife and #djlife perfectly. I'm just one person. So not possible.
Love #1, take the chance on yourself, Love #9 as you change people in your life will change, K.I.M. (Keep It Moving), love #10. Say yes to yourself #TeachTrainEducate
Evan...once again...Thank you! My favorite was #10. Shonda's speech almost brought me to tears. It was motivating, inspiring and exactly what I needed to hear.
"And it returned, the hum was quiet, and I realized, the hum wasn't success or from being a titan, the hum was love" I cried like a bitch ;-; she is so inspiring the way she overcame her fears, and she had to have some of her friends come up to her and tell her what ws up. That's happened to all of us, I think, where someone you really love an trust is like "look i known you a long time, you got some issues" and they help us through that difficult conversation, she's right. there is peace on the other side.
“Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means I am failing in another area of my life.” She’s so right!
I love Shonda! She is so brilliant! The last rule.. I understand it, I am a workaholic, programmer in other people's eyes. They tell me 'oh lucky you, you have discipline and you like working', that sounds so cold but no it is not true! I am a very passionate person, I love that thrill or 'hum' when I solve something that was bugging me for 2 whole days, I feel powerful! But sometimes I do get stuck and I lose that drive, and it is because I always forget to play... Thank you Shonda for the speech! I will make up my law for playing :)
#5..."Its the doing of the 'thing' that overcomes the fear". I now can explain why I must take a difficult shot to go for the pin behind a bunker over the water. Cause when it counts...I won't be afraid! I love your channel...I never knew who she was until I saw this. I now have a greater appreciation for all the shows I refuse to watch that she has written. They were full with drama that was too close to home. I now can see why they are so popular...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Icekuul. :) Great to know that you have more appreciation of her and what she does and I hope she inspires you to always #Believe in yourself and to get past the fear and keep taking action. Much love. #BelieveNation #BTA346 Shine
" illuminating thing to happen" reminds me of reading Chronicles of Narnia and understanding what was the author's inspiration for not only that book but the series
That comment about 'across the field of difficulties lies peace' or something like that. Love it. Soooo true in my life and this was a great reminder to that. Fits in with my whole understanding of resistance and what the effects of that are. I'm a new Shonda fan. Not if her work so much as her.
‘’If anyone tells you they do it all perfectly, they are a liar” As a mother of a special needs child and her equally special sibling, senior military wife, entrepreneur, teacher of women, volunteer, non profit organizer, baker, and a woman with needs that were not being met- I fail at so many areas so often. I am glad I am not alone because I don’t feel so guilty now.

"My brain is global." As a writer I can't imagine people all over the world watching/ reading/ hearing my thoughts. God, she's amazing!

Her TED talk was powerful, passionate, eloquent...."this hum".."god's whisper in my ear", "you can't help but strive for greatness"!

This quote brought me tears ❤️
The way she speaks clearly shows her amazing writing abilities. #extraordinary
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching. Definitely #extraordinary. :) Much love. #BTA324 Shine
Agreed. Her speech was so poetic.
Dartmouth must be a great school!!!
Sounds very Oprah like....
The way she speaks, draws you to her.
Thanks for your words.
I think this message is for me.
"Across the field of a difficult conversation lies peace." I needed this more than anything, I hate thinking I'm going to hurt someone's feelings.
I could listen to her speak all day. She is so inspiring, and to think she had a fear of public speaking.
Glad you're feeling inspired :) #BTA914 Luka
"Work is no fun without play."
This is so true!
Amazing! I love the part when she said " when i am being successful in one part of my life, i am being a failure to another part of my life". I can relate to her as a working Mom. Shonda is very honest in all her words. Thanks Evan!!!
Rhea Dela Cruz I relate to that too ♡
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Rhea...agree, she just tell it as it is. :) #BTA324 Shine

You don't have to find your niche. You are your niche. Just be yourself. There's no one else like you.
Number 3. You don't do it all. It's an illusion... Good for her for being honest!! And that - making mistakes, falling and failing equals living.

"# 9. Don't Shy Away From Difficulties" made the most the most impact on me.
Glad it resonated :) #BTA798 Luka

Rule number 3: "Be fulfilled" as a single mom of 2, aspiring writer, Masters student, full time ESL Lecturer, this! Right here! Speaks to me
Thanks for sharing :) #BTA777 Luka
It is incredible and inspiring to hear such a successful, extraordinarily talented person honestly admit to having similar insecurities as many of us then she conquers them! Thank you so much!!
#1 and #3 are great tips. As mention by Ms. Cruz in comment section, I like what Shonda stated and I am paraphasing 'when I am succeeding in one part of my life, I am failing in another part of my life.' In life you must sacrifice something to get something. You cannot do everything and have everything. That is life and once you understands this, you do not have to beat yourself up about missing out.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching Fredrick. :) #BelieveNation #BTA324 Shine
She is a titan and a true example of hard working people.
:) #BTA1426 Veljko
Number 3 was powerful. She kept it real and it totally makes sense now. "If you are succeeding in one area then you are failing in another. I felt the same...Trying to do #dadlife and #djlife perfectly. I'm just one person. So not possible.
"For every area I'm winning in, I am also loosing in another"...so true!
Thank you for sharing and thanks for watching. :) #BTA470 Luka
28:30 “work doesn’t work without play.” Man I needed that
Happy to know that it resonated with you. 😊 #Believe - Feb

Glad that you're feeling inspired! Thank you for sharing with us and thanks for watching. :) #BelieveNation #BTA461 Luka
Her TED talk was so captivating. Love the metaphor of the 'hum'.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes...that metaphor of the 'hum' is awesome! :) #BTA559 Shine
She is amazing! and that is why I am saying yes! to my fears. YES,YES,YES
Yes!!! :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching alethea. #Believe #BTA494 Shine
"Respect yourself"and "be authentic"
"And it returned, the hum was quiet, and I realized, the hum wasn't success or from being a titan, the hum was love" I cried like a bitch ;-; she is so inspiring the way she overcame her fears, and she had to have some of her friends come up to her and tell her what ws up. That's happened to all of us, I think, where someone you really love an trust is like "look i known you a long time, you got some issues" and they help us through that difficult conversation, she's right. there is peace on the other side.
Se is inspiring indeed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jessy. :) #Believe #BTA427 Shine
This is my humm reset reminder, keep it up Evan your work is more essential than you know! Deep practical stuff
Shondaland is Boss..."Respect Yourself" I feel that!
Thanks for watching! :) #BTA1110 Luka
I love these top tens.😍
What she said at 1:49 is a WORD! Right now I'm working several jobs to pay the bills so I can cover my acting classes/intensive costs, headshots, etc.
Hope you succeed in becoming an actress! :) #BTA1325 Luka
“Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means I am failing in another area of my life.” She’s so right!

"Competitiveness" Love this.
Yayyy! Thanks for watching. #Believe 💛😊 - Ahmed
Glad you can relate to it and that you will find also find time to play Kristina. :) Keep your passion alive and always #Believe! #BTA330 Shine
Thank you for your comment and for watching. #Believe - Feb (from Evan’s team)
"you can't help but strive for greatness when you hear the humm"
Thanks for the comment and for watching. :) #BTA386 Shine
Number 2 was deep to me. Thanks for this upload. I love Shonda ❤
Glad to know you can relate to it fernika. :) Thanks for the comment and for watching! Much love. #BTA324 Shine
That comment about 'across the field of difficulties lies peace' or something like that. Love it. Soooo true in my life and this was a great reminder to that. Fits in with my whole understanding of resistance and what the effects of that are. I'm a new Shonda fan. Not if her work so much as her.
Thank you for sharing with us and thanks for watching. :) #BelieveNation #BTA705 Luka
this was from her Ted Talk and I'll remember it forever- "If the song of my heart ceases to play, can I survive in the silence?"
Thank you for sharing and for watching Alexandra. 😊 #Believe - Feb
