So true, you don't quite realize how often you use the keyboard in Windows until you don't have one to rely on. Plus this thing would make great use of lossless scaling which remains Windows-only for now.
On my 7840u using windows was a breeze. But i do love bazzite on my ally x. If they made the mini without a keyboard and more like a full size controller on the bottom with bazzite it would be awesome.
Ya know what we need? SteamOS skins. Can we make the menus look like they were straight out an actual console? Like a PS3-4-5? Please put it on the wishlist if it's not there already.
@@zergslayer69 I looked the device up on their website and it does not state the screen size. Is it a 8 inch, 10 inch or 9 inch display? How do you like the colors?
Handheld pc has come a long way since steam deck, at least hardware wise. Then again you're also spending almost 5x as much money as a steam deck to get that performance with this device
In fairness the Steamdeck often can too, at least with the graphics settings set to be only as good as the native screen can really show you. It just tends to take a little bit of tweaking to the settings, and not every AAA game will play nice. I've tended to use my deck on an external monitor and even rendering at 1440p it generally manages a playable stable 30-40 fps on any game I've thrown at it, and if you play with the upscaling stuff... There are a few exceptions like the Total War games it has no chance with, but on the whole only the really really terribly optimised AAA won't work well enough and you won't be able to turn the deck down in power limit as much as on the new silicon (at least it seems). As these new AMD chips are mindblowingly cool and I want's it, want's it many times over as what an upgrade it would be... Won't be more potent than my desktop, but its coming depressingly close considering the power draw differential!
I would like to see what that hx 370 can do at full power, as well as comparative data for windows vs bazzite. I don't care much about battery life, as I'm mostlyu p[laying on the couch next to my lady while we watch something dumb together and she plays games on her ipad. So I'm plugged in basically all the time.
@@OC.TINYYY yep, the novelty of the form factor wears off quickly then it's just an expensive uncomfortable brick that stays on the shelf until it's sold off.
I don’t think z2 extreme is out yet. Z1 extreme tho, I’m pretty sure this stomps on the z1 extreme, as good as it is my ally couldn’t even run marvel rivals which was prettttyyy frustrating considering it’s an esports title.
A problem I have with Bazzite is if I switch to desktop mode, The screen just turns black and never comes back until I hard reset. I hear the sound of linux as I press buttons but the display just goes dark 1/5 times.
Can you do a performance and battery comparison vs the Ally X and the new MSI Claw? And ideally an eGPU comparison over USB4 as well? I'm debating if I should upgrade from my OG Ally, but it doesn't seem like a large enough upgrade to warrant a 50% higher price based on performance and the fact that they have removed oculink.
There ain’t no need for SteamOS on something that powerful, but I’m telling you the tools offered by AMD software is more valuable then those offered by steam OS. Especially the vivid gaming mode option which is incredibly underrated. ppl might even be using it while not even realizing that they are & then wondering why something else (which isn’t using said mode) doesn’t look as good.
Handheld battery is never enough. And never will be. Learn how to save battery, rather than play on 60fps at 1080p. I guess you can simply double battery life with 720p at 30 fps with heavy effects turned off (like antialiasing or ambient occlusion).
Im sitting on a 5700g right now and it does everything I need really. But IF they bring Strix Halo to desktop? I will start upgrading again. Frankly I think we will be waiting till AM6 is on the market so I am not going to invest in AM5 yet. After all this APU is classed as Strix Point, Not Strix Halo.
@reverendcoffinsotherson5807 Sorry, excluding the Steam Deck I should've said, but yeah I mean aside from the Steam Deck, the rest are really not worth their price point.
I only wish the layout and spacing was different; controls and pad at the bottom with keyboard above, and a different spot for that power button. I will wait for a slighter bigger and more powerful one, as this one honestly doesn't seem to perform much better than a regular Steamdeck.
Tried the recent version of SteamOS. Its still shit. SteamOS makes zero sense to me. Worse performance & you're locked down to Linux w/ poor game support. Just use Big Screen Mode, looks exactly the same as SteamOS without all the Linux BS.
Eta Eta ETA plZ plz PLZ Run 2 Ps3 Emulators While Playing Diablo 3/Cod Bo 2 on this with 8 Controllers *please please* Imo Not Gonna Buy Though I Hav My Eye On that Silent Mode ROG Flow Z13 AMD Strix Halo UnLess Something Just as PowerFul Comes Out Faster
What a boring video... Again showed only games with frame generation, many games are unplayable with FG in a portable. Each time I confirm that this channel is mainly for advertising.
Funny enough, this form factor is one of the very few that I'm actually cool with running Windows on.
@@PM-xc8oo Same here!

I wouldn’t mind windows on this one because of the keyboard. I hate windows on other handhelds because I hate touching the screen lol
Plus clamshell protects the screen better.
So glad they didn't stop making the little clamshell ones
Love to see the rise of Linux gaming with distros like SteamOS and Bazzite.
Now this is truly a portable console
yay exactly the video I've been waiting for since I heard the gpd gen4 announcement
Bazitte is a game changer too handheld gaming. I use it most of the time but if i need to switch to windows for any windows only game i can do it
Thanks for yet another great review!
That's not really a review
Yet another sales video

PS3 skin for SteamOS would be the sickest thing ever.
Playnite does that for windows. Im surprised valve hasnt release skinning option for their os.
Check Decky-loader: CSS themes.
Imagine if the user created themes with CSS Loader and Decky were available for all like community layouts
How comfortable is this in the hands?
I have the mini but with the official grips, it's very comfortable. But without the grips it's not bad also due to the light weight
@@zergslayer69 I looked the device up on their website and it does not state the screen size. Is it a 8 inch, 10 inch or 9 inch display? How do you like the colors?
not very comfortable.
Damn. That little thing can play AAA games over 60fps? Holy shit.

I have a mini PC with a 780M APU, and I can run Elden Ring on it. This is an Improvement over my machine.

I got one coming in the mail. Can't wait to mess around with it.
This form factor rocks. It's effectively a mini laptop with a builtin controller. How is that not exceptional?
why no oculink? they even have more space on the back
How did you get a 64gb ram version? Can’t find that version anywhere.
Valve should create one with the same form factor and put a full OG Steam controller touchpads there 😄
How's the performance without frame gen?
This is the best form factor!!!
Had one...sold it.
Uncomfortable & definitely not the best form factor. Sticks are shit. Keyboard is also shit & useless most of the time.
@@OC.TINYYY yep, the novelty of the form factor wears off quickly then it's just an expensive uncomfortable brick that stays on the shelf until it's sold off.
Do you know how the chip on this compares to the Z2 extreme? Just curious

Looks awesome. Can you try running POE 2.
Does Bazzite have Oculink support?
based on your experience how much perfemanc do you lose when using steamOS/Bazzite ?
I wonder if this can be used as a retro gaming device
A problem I have with Bazzite is if I switch to desktop mode, The screen just turns black and never comes back until I hard reset. I hear the sound of linux as I press buttons but the display just goes dark 1/5 times.
They should try to make the keyboard virtual, so it won't be too small to type...

ETA can you do a video of Bazzite on the MSI Claw 8 AI+?
I like to run my Mini 2023 with Bazzite in 720p with the built in FSR / NISS. Looks great and let me up the graphics to high.

I’m getting this to play galaga on the go
Is it worth it to turn off hyper-threading for HX370?
I really hope legion go 2 can play these games at 1080p medium setting at 60fps soon!
Which of these is the most reliable and similar to SteamOS: Bazzite, HoloISO, ChimeraOS?
Bazzite and Chimera are the best
Realistic battery life keeping the tdp at about 12-15w?
Less than the SD OLED which is the standard. Looks cool but the battery is undersized.
How is the heat compared to ally x
Does lossless scaling work?
Only on Windows.
@RolandDobbins that's what I thought this would be a gamechager if it was working on bazzite .
You should introduce gnome..

Amazing
You should compare against the steam deck at 15 watts
If they do an OLED screen version someday I would consider buying.
Someone installed this on new Asus Flow tab
Emulate Bloodbone please
Jeez ...I can get two NICE OLED Steam Decks for this price....or a mid grade Steam Deck and a decent gaming laptop.....sheesh ...
Legit lmaooo you may as well get a gaming laptop at that price, none of these portable devices at this price range are convincing otherwise
@icebergXI I believe a Steam Deck is priced ok....

This is an enthusiast/ situational device. It's not for most people. Its niche, and they clearly make enough to shit these out every year
