You are right ,India is certainly a different country now than it was in the seventies. I can vouch for that. In 1970 when I started my career I had to apply leave to stand in the queue for hours to get a tin of kerosene. You had to wait for 13 yrs after booking to get a Bajaaj scooter. If you wanted to make a call ,you had go to the telephone exchange to book a call and wait hours to get connected. The list goes on. But believe me life was better then as there was less polarisation and dirty politics than it is now.

For Germany and Japan, Uncle Sam is not an ally, he is their master. Since the end of WWII; these two countries are no longer sovereign. US troops are stationed there in large numbers and the hosts do not have any say about that. On the other hand, China & Russia got closer because they have a common enemy. They did so on the understanding that perhaps, they could jointly drive the crooked uncle away from Asia. I had long been contemplating that India should become friends with China. You are right ,India is certainly a different country now than it was in the seventies. I can vouch for that. In 1970 when I started my career I had to apply leave to stand in the queue for hours to get a tin of kerosene. You had to wait for 13 yrs after booking to get a Bajaaj scooter. If you wanted to make a call ,you had go to the telephone exchange to book a call and wait hours to get connected. The list goes on. But believe me life was better then as there was less polarisation and dirty politics than it is now.

After coming to power; Mr. Modi directed his foreign policy ship towards USA to the surprise of many. May be he was upset due to Russia’s deep love-affair with China. However, Uncle Sam didn’t take much time to demonstrate to India that he is not a trustworthy ally. Now, India is again moving closer to Russia.
The comedian uncle is only a permanent ally of Israel because there’s very strong Israeli lobby in that country that is capable of persuading US lawmakers keep supporting them even at the cost of their own interests. For Germany and Japan, Uncle Sam is not an ally, he is their master. Since the end of WWII; these two countries are no longer sovereign. US troops are stationed there in large numbers and the hosts do not have any say about that.
On the other hand, China & Russia got closer because they have a common enemy. They did so on the understanding that perhaps, they could jointly drive the crooked uncle away from Asia.
I had long been contemplating that India should become friends with China. May be the alliance of these three heavyweights could really begin to force USA start packing up from this part of the world. But, that’s me having a guess.

As the Subcontinent was a land of different ethno- religious, multi- cultural groups it was easy for the British to play the divide and conquer rule. Btw the rage of the rss is quite a peanut size if you consider that inspite of being by far the largest religious group by some margin the Hindus were under foreign hands for more than 700 years! If it was happening anywhere else like Europe or Africa or America there would be an ethnic cleansing happening despite them not realizing that they are the same people ethnically with different religions. Indians are quarelsome yes but they are quite tolerant of others.
