Beautiful..... My partner Tracy & I have children. We have twin sons(14) that are growing into wonderful young men. One even in 9th grade is being scouted by college coaches for football. We have a daughter in Nursing school (Deans List). All of our children are on honor roll and have NO issues. We love them and show them the right way. Our family is NORMAL....Why??? Because We love them with unconditional love and love them from beyond the deepest parts of our souls! Great Documentary!! Thanks!
The last girl had me in tears, every word she said was so powerful and beautiful.. And not just her, I noticed that every teen in this video was much more mature and smart than kids raised in straight families.. I'm from a straight family and it took me a long time to get over my homophobia and realize that being gay/lesbian/transgender/etc is not a sickness, it's not unnatural, it's not bad or something to be ashamed of, I just wish people around me and everywhere in the world realized that..
+LordPotato I have a dad and a mom. They always used to fight with me in the room. I had a hard life because of my father. My mother has been an exceptional mom. I'll rather have two loving moms, in a loving home, than the dad that I had.
Oh my goodness I want to give the last girl a big hug. She is so amazing. Smart, Kind, Confident, Determined, and stands up for what she believes in and needs. She will make a difference. I can feel it in my heart. We're getting there, everyone! One step at a time!
What a wonderful documentary. I was so impressed by all the kids, how articulate they were, what a clear understanding they have of the issues, and how strong they were facing discrimination.
I hate the homophobia in some of these comments. As a child of gay parents this is hurtful, some of you are saying that children growing up with gay parents are bad children and should be punished. I love my family, my brother and both of my moms, we are no different. People who are homophobic are big bullies and I don't think they know how much they hurt us.
Ruby Carter Brackenbury: I know it’s hard, but ignore the haters. Your family is beautiful. You are strong and worthy and the closed minded are speaking out of ignorance and fear.
Thanks for this! I can only hope that my 2.5 year old son with two lesbian parents can be as confident and proud as the children represented in this documentary. I donated for them and they have included me all along the way. He is rough and tough and runs the show but the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.
The last girl was just awesome I love how she speaks. direct and confident and so educated, my gf is also white, ( am black & that alone is challenge, must less attempting to get married in the Bahamas) but she has the same hair ,same everything. But how she carries herself and speaks is what i love most about her. She did a great job and made her parents very proud.
Our agency works with LGBT families across the country. This video was very inspirational. We would be happy to be part of a study or project like this.
Thank you posting this video. I think it is important for people to see these loving families and realize family is not just a mom, dad and children, but a loving group of people. I think these people did a great job at raising their children, and a lot better than a lot of heterosexual couples I know.
Its videos like this, and comments like yours that help me feel good about wanting a family with my partner. I have been told so many times that its not an environment to raise a child. Thank you.
The world spins and will continue to do so! A family forms out of pure LOVE and will continue to do so! Haters will HATE!and continue to do so. I Choose LOVE and continue to do SO!!!!!!!!!
This video has touched my heart in a way I'm not sure many will understand.. I am a gay woman myself, and have often worried that if I made the choice to have children with my partner, that our children would face harsh judgement and bullying as the grew up, in turn causing resentment towards us.. It would kill me to see my children get bullied for who their parents are, but this video has made it clear that children with LGBT parents can be and are very happy.. Thank you..
I live in a suburb of Richmond so we consider ourselves southern. ( For those of you who don't know the cultural difference between northern VA and southern VA is HUGE.) I have a couple gay friends, but I don't know any parents. This is really great to watch. Thank you so much!
As a lesbian couple raising children, this is an amazing video on how much our families are just like everyone else's. We love our children and want the best for them. Love is love.
Children flourish in a stable loving environment. They understand early on to be tolerant and more accepting. They learn to work through adversity through what they see their parents go through so it creates a person who is more well rounded.
I couldn't understand everything what thay said (bcause of language), but I was crying and impressed by their power, the truth and things they shows what is really important. I hope I will make change with equal marriage in my country too.
I love how Marina talked about "getting our marriage license..." because that is exactly what it was. Her mothers' marriage license was also hers, it validated them in the eyes of the law as a family. And by denying same sex couples the right to marry, also denies their children equal protection under the law!
This is well done, and a great beautiful story. I have a page in facebook about understanding homosexuality in the lbgt. I used your well documented video. Blessings to you and family and my love.
As someone who knows so many kids conceived by accident by heterosexual parents who did not want to be parents or cannot be parents or should not be parents, I think perhaps the one clear advantage gay parents have is they never get accidentally pregnant. Being a parent is a conscious, deliberate choice they make and the child is WANTED and WELCOMED and PLANNED FOR. There are lots of kids growing up who are feeling the negative effects of parents who never wanted them. Kids can tell when parenting is not what the person wanted to do with their life. It shows.
alieninthecaribbean This is the perfect puzzle piece for adopted kids. They have a kid and don’t want them, those parents want a kid and don’t have one. Perfect fit.
I'm a proud lesbian. And my daughter is 14 and straight. Nobody should judge anyone. Its not our place on earth to judge. Especially on how the LGBTQ community raises their children. We raise them like any parent would. All we want is to be equal and live our lives.
This documentary has changed my mind about adoption and including everyone as a perspective parent.love is so much better than group homes and no sense of belonging
I am so glad I found this, it really cheered me up but the sad undertone still remains. This was made in 2011 and the same problems still remain? Given we have made progress but I want so much more from society, all of our voices are screaming at the top of our lungs, so why is it so hard to be heard?
At 10:30 Kids with gay parents are alot more humble, nice and respectful of other cultures, religion just because they have experienced it themselves....
Sometimes there are individuals in this world that when they feel bad/sad/insecure that they would inflict pain on others, so pity them and keep your distance from them(they will drag you down with them). They have to face their own monsters on their own and have to some growing up on their own.
This video means a lot to me, i'm glad I came across it. I have an amazing new family as well, I gave birth to a beautiful son 4 months ago, who I placed in a very open adoption with two well structured men. I love hearing these stories of kids sticking up for their families and helping this gay movement along. My son's life is going to be the best. I made a good decision for him, but his dad's have less rights and can't get married? LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE.
Fifteen years ago, I was born to two lesbians. When I was eleven and my brother just nine, the broke up. I've always got a bittersweat taste in my mouth when takling about it, but i really must say: This divorce broke me out of an really painful situation - the twelve year old boy is right: Many children are homophobic, even here in Germany, which is (in contrast to most parts of the US) really liberal. I hope mankind grows up, and respects everybody the same... Don't stop reaching for freedom!
This video is very realistic and people can't see beyond their noses. They do not want to accept what they don't understand, which is ignorant. Coming from parents that are gay, I understand what these people go through day in and day out.
Children with gay parents should never be an issue. Children who have loving parents, whether gay or straight, will tell you it really only matters that you're loved. That is a message that I can get behind. A movie that paints a great picture a gay parent and child relationship is Patrick Wang's In the Family.
These are some beautiful individual stories. It really is an eye opener of what children of LGBT parents must go through on a daisy basis. Alot of negative remarks and comments from peers must be hard to deal with. Just telling friends they have two moms or dads may be a hard concept for some to gasp but for others, its normal. These people shouldnt be treated differently just because of who their parents fall in love with and who they decided to be their partner.
Hi, I'm doing a school project on LGBT. I'm making a documentary and was wondering if I may use footage from this video? I think it has a great message and shows how well kids who are raised in LGBT homes are doing.
I believe children from LGBT families actually are more compassionate to the plights and needs of other human beings. 3 of our daughters on their own started a food drive in our neighborhood for a family where both parents had lost their jobs. We (LGBT) Parents do a great job in the midst of the non believers!... Ok that's all....lol
This is very powerful and real. People can't see beyond their damn noses. They do not want to accept what they don't understand. Pure ignorance...LGBT familes have a secure, stable, if not higher physical, cognitive, emotional, social development. Compare child abuse rates in a LGBT household compared to a "normal" family. Its practically unheard of. These kids are more likely to become humbled and have a broader intellectual sense more so than the "average"child at a younger age.
I am a straight girl, and I have always had gay and lesbians friends. Do you know what is my opinion about bigots?- They are afraid because they doubt their true orientation. So, please, do not pay atention to haters and try to be happy as everyone deserve. Stay strong and carry on!. Sorry for my english.
I have a friend who have adopted 3 kids. She has a house, wife and family. These kids came from neglectful parents. Now they're loved. So regardless if their parents are same sex, they're the ones stepping up to the plate doing something that most people (gay, straight,bi,tri) wouldn't even have the courage to do.
"Too many 'you know's." Maybe so, but she knows a lot, is highly articulate, and stands up effectively in public for her parents, despite being only 17. In the circumstances, she deserves a pass on a minor habit of speech, don't you think?
I can only imagine what people must go through with LGBT parents. Its really sad how people are just not educated enough about the topic which usually causes people to be so ignorant.
