- Hop in! This week on Ride With Me, we’re picking up Philly icon, DJ Jazzy Jeff. Today, he’s taking us on a tour through the neighborhood that raised him: Philadelphia’s South Street. Come along for the ride as Jazz shows us around his old stomping grounds. Then watch as our host Janae visits all the spots that were there to see a DJ turn into an icon. This is DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Philadelphia.
In our new RUclips series, Ride With Me, we’ll show our audience how to experience neighborhoods through the eyes of our favorite celebrities and personalities. From their favorite slice shop to ease a hangover at 3am to their absolute go-to spot for unplugging from the world, our celebs will Zoom in and guide our host through their favorite neighborhood. And this is more than just a list of recommendations- we want to hear the stories that make these spots truly special. After we hang up, our host will spend the day riding around to see first hand all the magical elements that come together to make their neighborhood special to them. Enjoy the ride.

I live in west Philly now but when I was young I lived uptown . I remember Jazzy Jeff&will would be at USA skating rink doing their hiphop thing it was an amazing time too grown up
I remember USA!! Northeast High class of '90 here. 149!!!😘
When I use to hang on South Street, we would go to Jim's Cheesesteak for cheesesteaks. Ishkabibbles for chicken steak.
Tried Jim’s it’s not all that at all more of a tourist spot oh brother delasangros and maxes an sads halal are the best
@@Jigaboo1929 I was referring to a good cheesesteak on South Street because the video is talking about South Street, not necessarily in the city.
@@tropicallymixed. true but what u named aren’t good options I didn’t want u to steer people in the wrong direction
@@Jigaboo1929 It wasn't good in your opinion. But I have to admit, I haven't had a Jims cheesesteak in over 7 years so I don't know what it taste like now.
@@tropicallymixed. exactly since u haven’t had it in 7 years u shouldn’t recommend it
This was really good and done very well.
And it's one word, "saltpepperketchupmayo!" 🤣😂🤣
I LOVED this!!!!!! Jeff did us RIGHT!! Absolutely Philadelphia Royalty. KingISH.
he brought the best energy and the best recommendations!
West Philadelphia Born n raised!!! 5-7 Rodman St Up!! Good job Jeff the only thing left was for him to do was drop the Mic because he hit some good spots!!!
57th & Rodman in the house!!!
West Philly stand up I hear ya
Southwest Philly Baby! 🥰💃🏾💙
"Cheeze Whiz For Tourists!"...🤣😅😆😂True Indeed...
Now that was real Philly!! No genos
The he describes Philadelphia back then makes me miss it
Last time I saw Jeff he was in concert with Boys To Men Jill Scott jilly from Philly tht show was crazy
Man... Im nearly 40 years old. And I wish i could travel the world.. And try food everywhere. I've just been in Indiana over 28 years. I wish I could get out
Anybody looking for a Cheesesteak here try Max's on Broad and Erie. 💯✌🏾
THE BEST😋
Oregon Steaks, Angelo's on 9th st and Steve's Steaks in Northeast are the top cheesesteaks.
Way on the other side of town.
Angelo’s, John’s Roast Pork and Woodrow’s which is also on South Street are as good as Max’s. I’d prefer them over Max’s but everyone has a favorite.
That's how I get mines. I get American cheese mayo on the roll fried onions salt pepper ketchup and hot peppers and pickles, the hood order
You already know
hold so you mean to tell me I been eating cheese steaks wrong my entire life😂😂 this jawn sound slammin.
So true, you don't eat Lorenzo's at any other time but 2 AM
"True!"...
💯💯💯
Max's got the best cheesesteaks
All day, every day!
Norff stand up
Love the Copa. Best peach margaritas and fries in the world
DJ is so right! "Wiz is for tourists!" I have been saying that for years!!
Locals don't park in the parking lot. We ride around, spin the block for 15 mins, lurk for any cars pulling out and park. Here's a thing, we have money to pay for parking 😂😂😂😂
You preaching
The best cheesesteaks in Philly depend on what neighborhood you live in. Pat’s and Geno’s are a no go. We don’t do cheese wiz on our steaks. I hate that our city is known for those nut ass places. My favorite spots would be Falone’s in Southwest on Elmwood & Island Ave and you can drive 10 minutes into the county and go to Leo’s in Sharon Hill. I’m not driving all the way down North Philly to Max’s or even further to Delasandro’s. I will drive to South Philly for Angelo’s tho.
First time watching a video from this channel and I’m hooked already.😂 I like the way this is set up. It’s different but it works.
Jeff did Philly proud telling her to hit the spots to go. Not many ppl will say ishkabibbles for cheesesteak... So underrated. It's always been ishkabibbles and Jim's for cheesesteak for me
We visited Philly last week and went to Oh Brother. I got my veggie burger and wifey got her Philly cheesesteak. He’s so right about Gino’s and Pat’s. We went to those places years ago and was disappointed with the cheese wiz.
Visited Philadelphia 2 years ago and it was amazing, got cheese steaks from geno and pats and they were ok but we didn't get a chance to really eat in the city much, we did head to West Chester and had an incredible cheese steak at place called the social. Amazing! But all in all I love philladelphia, it was incredible and I want to move there now
Great interview! Everyone has their favorite Philly food. Like Jazzy but no to the mayo-Yo!
Lorenzo's is good and all but KING OF PIZZA at Germantown and Erie is theeeee BEST PIZZA IN THE CITY..ijs
The pizza is good but I did see mice in king of pizza
THAT'S RIGHT!!
You have to try 4 sons at Frankford &Cumberland st. 5stars
Stamped hands down
Facts I'm west philly but germantown is the best pizza
Years ago me and my friends would be in copa every Thursday night
Jeff did it right!! Perfect Philly review!!
Jeff . Miss the Pick up games and hanging out . Laugh House and all that . I am proud and always proud of you and Will and Kevin . We are all older now but we are still here to share these memories . Godbless Bro.
Legendary artist Indeed!
Ishkabibbles on South Street is that vibe when you leave TLA drunk. Skip Jimmy's lol
This is the TRUTH!!
Excellent video!
This was better than most places you could go. But most people from the city still don’t hit up these places lol
Hold up...My man dont eat cheese. That's cool. But You cant possibly have only one man who dont eat Cheese choose the only "Cheese"Steak spot.
My son eat steak sandwiches not cheesesteaks. He’s lactose intolerant and doesn’t like the taste.
Great Job Thrillist, you always produce amazing fun videos of culture and the food that comes with it. I've been a subscriber for a long time now and you never disappoint. God Bless and Continued success to the Entire team.
Peace to Jeff and all my Philly Homies and Homegirls. RIP
to MF DOOM. That mask just stands out in Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. 🙏🏾👊🏾
2:51...I messes with the whiz...so that ain't all-the-way true...shiii, I got whiz on my ishkabibbles...
Ishkabbibles!!! 😋
I LOVE PHILLY.
Pat's and Geno's are where you take people you don't like so they can get food poisoning
I love this ♥️♥️
Everything that he said is facts lol !!!!
That’s what we did in the 90s✊🏾
Jeff used to love Dave & Buster’s buffalo wings too.
Great Show! I gonna watch your series on a regular basis now! Any Info on tune that closes out the show in last 2 minutes. I shazam it, but no result comes up!
Great video!!! Jeff did us right!!! But Jim's is the best spot for cheesesteaks
I enjoyed your video content I'm a Creator on the platform myself and I haven't made a video in a while but this just reminded me of how simple and elegant and fun a RUclips video should be it's not about the clicks and views it's about the experience ❤️
If you from or in philly,go holla at Curly's comfort food out in Levittown,pa. Their cheesesteaks are craaaaazy!!!!!
Not necessarily Ishkabibles for a cheesesteak but definitely a chicken cheesesteak from there. Jim’s or Ishkabible’s for a regular cheesesteak. Love their cheese fries too. They’re called Spanish fries. Not Copa fries. But I prefer cheesesteaks away from south street
Right. I only went there for the chicken cheesesteak. They were the ones that exposed me to the authentic chicken cheese steak💯💯.
I literally just typed the same thing. He didn't even mention Jim's, like how? The line outside the door proves otherwise lol.
@@tropicallymixed. a lot of Philly natives don’t like Jim’s. Me personally I’ve never liked Jim’s , a lot of people believe they are overrated. Jim’s and ish are across the street from each other. They both have lines. I think people like Jim’s because they want to support the illusion of black owned businesses
@@thisisjustanillusion6486 I've lived in Philly most of my life. I was hung on South Street in the 90s and early 2000's, never heard a person say they didn't like Jims. And I never knew it was Black owned, just went cause the cheesesteak was good. I had to tell my mom who lived in Philly most of her life about Ishkabibbles.
Max's Steaks North Philly The #1 Spot In The City Real Rap
Simon's Chicken Cheesteaks the founder of that! On South Street
loved ishkabibble’s fries and cherry soda as a kid
Coming from north philly with my crew, wewould hit up Jim's steaks on 4th and south street. Better than ishkabibbles, hands down! Or around the corner from my old hood was Max's cheesteakson germantown ave....... used to go get a 40 ounce of gold gold and a cheesesteak with fried onions salt pepper mayo, no ketchup and fries.now that's taking it back!
You are old school
The gremlin is nothing but purplesaurus rex Kool aid lol
The original ishkabibbles was the best. Once it was sold it went downhill
Yes totally went down!! I've found other eateries to please my palate
A place called the plateau is where everybody go
I long for those days. This new generation has destroyed the whole vibe. We treated each other beautifully.
Definitely gotta slide to Rita’s
I have to add an Amen to the comment at 2:50 that "a true Philadelphian would be really really upset if you put cheese whiz on a cheesesteak. Growing up in Philly, we always had Provolone.
Uhh. You mean provelone? Or american at worst?
@@Nielsen.Brian.P Yes Provolone😁
@@Nielsen.Brian.P I always get American on mine
You also missed out on Tony Lukes in south philly, Roast Pork Italian! Pat Steaks isnt the best but, it is way cool to go there in the summer on the weekend after 11p.m., just a cool crazy vibe of people (Wiz Wit).
ISHKABIBBLES IS MY SPOT!! on EVERYTHING!! AND GET A GREMLIN(LEMONADE/GRAPE MIXED)!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I like the ny references.
It's a trip that in the golden age of hip-hop, THE D.J. was MUCH a star as the RAPPER. 38 YEARS we all SEE what the RESULTS are as of 2022.
Lies and fables. The best Philly cheesesteak is where you have cars double parked and a crowd of a hundred people standing outside waiting to get their cheesesteak and that is Delassandro's at Wendover and Henry Avenues. No other restaurant in Philly has crowds outside and cars double-parked for a cheesesteak.
It has crowds not because it's the best anymore but from history plenty of places have knocked them off the top. John Roast Pork also has crazy lines and sells out. BTW I grew up eating dalessandro's. Max's also has crazy lines out the door and double parking and they have a parking lot. All of these are old legend and the quality has went down over the years.
How you get a cheesesteak with no cheese?
It’s a SteakUmm 😂😂😂😂
Haven’t been in Philly 8 years but started going to Jim’s Steaks over 40 years ago. Best cheese steak in Philly…hands down.
Only u and 1 million wyte tourists. Lol
@@beats4life971 Well since you brought race into it, since the cheese steak was invented by a wyte guy and all the large and original cheese steak shops are owned by wyte people maybe the “million wyte tourists” plus me know something you don’t.
The Eagle Bar
Penns landing definitely always been the spot now it definitely better
I miss home 🙁
Jims is across the street and originated in WP and they serve wiz ...he is tripping
I don't give a Damm ,I like cheese sauce on a Philly it's still good !😋
I’m from Philly and a cheese wiz cheesesteak is damn good the few times I have had it . But my favorite is white American or provolone
I’ve been saying that for years, I’ve never put cheese wiz on mines
Cute host
2 kids doin' double-dutch
pizza around philly steak daaam
Going to Philly next week, can’t wait to get a cheesesteak
Don't sleep on the Italian Roast Pork sandwiches. They might be even better than cheesesteaks imo
@@SentientPickle definitely getting one of those too!
@@SentientPickle Yes!👍🏼👍🏼
Hit me up I'll join you 😉
SOUTH STREET AIN’T SOUTH STREET NO MORE BUT IT WAS A GO TO BLOCK WHEN YOU WOULD OCCASIONALLY RUN 🏃🏾♂️ IN THE A FEW CELEBRITIES CHECK OUT A FEW STORES Ishkabibble’s DEFINITELY THE PLACE TO GO
Back then it was fun philidelphia was a whole vibe back then
Yes, good times.
C'mon jazz why you didn't go to Manayunk ?
Crazy that Jeff still cares about Philly and definitely still reps it. Yet you never hear Will talk about Philly and god forbid he ever sets foot back in this city again, lol.
Will became so hollywood now
Ishkabibbes is the spot
If i saw him i would Not know it
Also Jazzy Jeff kept it clean the plateau was the date spot too👿 and he left out Jim's Steaks on South Street .
What do you mean mc 2 on fries
ishkabibble's 2nd store is dine-in so you don't have to stand up.
Be careful you don't get shot
No Steve's? Come on man!
Gooey looey mohamensa ave
South west Philly cheese steaks rockys
Driver With Me
Ishkabibbles got the best chicken cheesesteaks
Is it good? No. lol Can't tell if that was sarcasm, but it certainly didn't sound like it.
✌🏾🥖🖐🏾
100% Jazz, We never eat whiz in Philly.
Thats absolute slop
Now mayo is a no as it ketchup, Sorry buddy
Its Provolone Wit (Hot Peppers on side)
Done, and cheese fries with American
Thats Philly……Period😎
Dude needs to step up his cheesesteak game.
Lorenzo’s is drunk pizza not good pizza
Then how many days ahead...South Street gets shot up....😭
Only when we know you coming. Other than that, shootings like that don't happen on south street like that
Sooooo this was good for the West Philly side, but now it's time for Kevin Hart for the North Philly side.
So right Jazz a real Philly natives don't eat cheese whizz on a real Philly cheese steak
Maxxs is the one but is cool but the gremlin classic
Yeah lol the philly taco is not a real Philly thing but great job sis
I had Jims Steaks They were ok. The neighborhoods have better cheese steaks!
DAMN I SURE HOPE IT TOOK U 3 DAYS TO FILM THIS >BECAUSE IF U EAT LIKE THAT IN ONE DAY
