Actually what you said about the sabertooth squirrel isn't 100% true. Those did exist. Scientists just didn't discover them until several years after the movie is all. Which I personally think is kinda impressive.

Holonboy Meltdown was harmless enough but I really think it should have stopped there. Just be one of those things where everyone likes the movie and then it got a sequel that's fine, some people are into it and some aren't but no one really cares either way. I think that would have been way better than spiraling off into this big franchise that pretty much no one wants anymore
First 3 were good, but even making a 3rd one was pushing it a bit. The fact they went on to make a 4th one is ridiculous as fuck, now there's a 5th. Kill me if they make a 6th.

I have a feeling they were never gonna do sequels. Then the movie got popular and bam new ice age movie.
What possible purpose could they serve in the sequels? Especially since this movie established humans and animals in this world can't talk to each other, so unless we want this to turn into another Free Willy cartoon (no srsly, it was a cartoon show for a while) I'm not sure how you'd even be able to fit them in without the character being the load.
Everyone, including those who like the sequels, are also bugged by that. Even as a little kid, I was kinda bugged by that.
This franchise is going way off track. In the first it was a normal animal adventure, in the second, they just add a female character and two second tier comic reliefs, the third had them go underground and fight dinosaurs, the fourth they battle pirates, and the fifth they stopped a meteor. Is anyone else feeling high right now?

I agree. What made the original good was the fact that it would actually be taken as an intense drama if it was not animated and used all human characters. The balance of the heavy drama and the humorous elements help make Ice Age an interesting movie but the sequels turned away from that.
@@robertborland5083 One problem with the later sequels was that the term 'Ice Age' didn't really have much importance. Most of all Collision Course, which was basically a regular animal movie with Ice Age animals.
And let's not forget that in nearly everyone they said "Alright, which character get's girlfriend in this one?" and then they through Manny, Sid, Diego, and Sid again, at this acid trip fest.
As a franchise, Ice Age was pretty good. But it should've stopped after Dawn of the Dinosaurs cause Continental Drift and Collision Course were pretty bad.

Well, maybe the American Dodo was extinguished at that time.
Fun fact. Dodos are historically considered stupid because when they were first discovered near Madagascar, they had no natural predators. So when humans showed up they literally just walked up to the humans who needed something to eat. This gave them the reputation for being stupid, when in reality it was just a case of not knowing what a predator is.
Actually sabre tooth squirrels did exsist, national geographic reported on there discovery in 2011 and yes that was well after ice age came out it was well before this video came out.

When you rewatch the first Ice Age you understand, on a scary level, why Manny is so anal about Peaches being safe and within his line of sight. You get why he acted the way he did at first with Ellie. He's so broken and even when he gets it all back he's left terrified of losing it all again.
for a comedy series like this, you can't help but feel for how dark manny's character is. A shame they didn't do as much character development to the others. They really could have done something with diego

In the title, when scrat gets crushed by the first foot, it's a MAMMOTH foot. Maney is the only mammoth in the movie, and maney was actually quite a way away from that spot. Then scrat gets crushed by a DODO foot, when the dodo's were supposed to stay underground for a long time with 3 melons while the ice age blew over.

Ice Age and Despicable Me are quite similar in that they're stupid, but actually quite fun. They're not clever or deep like Pixar films, but sufficiently bonkers to keep you entertained (come on, the Scrat scenes are funny, especially when he gets a coconut at the end!). However, both Ice Age and Despicable Me had sequels (or spin-offs) that went off-the-rails stupid and irritating. Urghh.

They might not be the deepest movies, but they have some great messages in them
I agree all except for the Scrat being funny part. I personally don't find him funny and feel he is more of a crutch to make people laugh. I usually skip those scenes cause i really enjoy the dynamic between Diego, Manny and Sid. Dont care about Scrat

It was the first animated movie of the studio. You can say the same about the first Toy Story and the first Shreck (though Shreck had very good designs that worked with the limitations). In the first Toy Story you can still see the polygons in the characters.

Toy Story came out in 1995, Toy Story 2 came out in 1999, Monsters Inc. and Shrek came out in 2001 (I could go on, but that's enough imo). Ice Age was extremely dated, even for it's time.
Honestly I dare say that Reboot looks better than this in terms of everything but water effects.

CG animation was a huge misstep in the industry. The animation in this is already dated. Classical hand drawn animation will never date though. You can still watch Snow white from 1937 still looks stunning.
There's one factor you've forgotten, when speaking of your plight; today's animation rocks! Animation has taken giant strides recently, and the films of today offer very realistic-looking characters and settings. Especially Disney-Pixar films, I cannot stress enough.

PLAYER SLAYER CG animation, no matter how awesome and realistic it looks now, will date eventually because technology is constantly evolving and outplaying the previous technology. Thats a simple fact. Hand drawn animation however will never have that problem because drawing can't evolve, it relies in the artists skills and not the computers power.
I think it's a matter of perspective. Looking at movies like Toy Story still look good for what they are and remain highly enjoyable. Even if 50 years pass and technology advances further, that won't stop being the case, because the animation done with the tools available was still solid.
Same goes for 2D. You say Snow White looks stunning, but that's because it was the standout hit of that generation of animators. If you were to watch some other animated flick from those early days chances are it won't be as acceptable.

This was my favorite movie as a kid, and I still have a lot of nostalgic love for it. I think it still holds up.
It really does though. It even got nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar in 2003 but lost to Shrek. Also, everytime I rewatch it I notice something new about it which means it *does* hold up.
And the idea of Ice Age is pretty original in Animated movies. It really was pretty great. But they should have stopped after they made the first one.
The animation is a little weird looking back at it, though.

(It's funny, because Blue Sky's ads for the film, or at least most of them, only feature Scrat. Nothing about any plot, or characters. At this point, I don't believe they even care about Ice Age anymore.
They really should have him interact with the main cast more. He only ever directly does in the first two movies (mostly with Sid, who wouldn't even remember).
I could see that happening, since Scrat indirectly caused the conflict in both Ice Age 4 and 5. First he caused the continental drift, then accidentally sent a meteor to earth.
