This is the first time seeing this. As a funk musician myself, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO proud to call him my uncle.

This is a cool dude. I met him in Bonn Germany. I got a chance to get on stage and sing My Girl with the Funk Brothers. Billy Preston was on the organ. Ed Willis, Joe Hunter (Pop), Joe Messina were really laid back and approachable. I was so honored to be in their presence. Wish you the best Eddie!

@@jennifursun3303 Wow...I just realized that he passed away in 2018. I really thought he was still with us. R.I.P Funk Brother Eddie Willis. You were an original. Your music along with your other Funk Brothers lives on and will be highly appreciated forever.

Yes yes yes. Now he is gone with many of the other original Funk Brothers. May his family be comforted for he will be missed.

I bought my first guitar amp from Eddie back in Detroit in the mid ‘70’s. I had no idea who he was and frankly, I don't think he did either. He told me he was working on a Spinners record. I was 15 years old and vaguely familiar. I said, the Rubberband Man band?” He said, “Yeah, that’s it!” He was the nicest, most humble guy. We went up to his second story, finished attic room. The sun was hitting the window and the nice oak floors were glowing. It was magic for me. He pulled back a sheer white curtain and there were probably 10-15 amps neatly spread out and stacked on each other. He pulled out a Silverface Twin, plugged it in and handed me the guitar. I started noodling on some very basic blues stuff and he said, “Dig in to it, man!” I started hitting it harder and he excitedly said, “That’s your amp, man!” And $300 later, it was. Boy, did it take me to some incredible places. I realized who he was years later when watching a news program.
I never stopped playing humbucker equipped guitars in to Twin type amps. That was the Detroit sound. That was Eddie and Jimmy McCarthy and Kenny Burrell all the way to Ted Nugent. Some of the best guitar tones ever recorded - a Gibson guita in to a Fender amp. There’s something in the water up in Detroit. Godspeed, Eddie.
