Do you have any photographs of him? Recordings? My friend/mentor Mike Lipskin recorded him, I will comment the link for you to watch if you would like to hear his voice.😊
Everybody respected your great grandfather as a great top stride pianist, unfortunately he was under recorded,I've been trying to hear him solo for 60 years, and finally...you should be very proud to have him as a great grandfather. .I'm sure they called him the tiger for a reason .
Thanks for making this available. I hadn’t heard any piano solos by Wille Gant before. I didn’t know there were any recordings of him. What a stride master he is! Not was either. As long as recordings like this exist he is a stride master.
I had to listen to this again, willie gant was terrific, what interesting to me is his left hand sounds alot like jp johnson ,but in his right hand i here alot of lucky Roberts influence, what ever ,he was great.
Okay so WHERE can I find your interview? Willie Gant was my great grandfather!!!! Adele Gant his daughter was my grandma, the other poster on here is my cousin. I have a copy of a picture of Willie Gant’s ramblers that I tried to have posted on All Music with no luck. ( My dad William Gant has the original)My cousin and I are trying to locate any other relatives he may have had. I am also just THRILLED to hear him play. Thank you 🙏
@Mialamorena1 ruclips.net/video/cPy0nXuWp4g/видео.html my friend Mike Lipskin had the chance to interview him and used to be able to get him to play stride in this one spot tgat your grandfather worked later in life.
@Mialamorena1 from Mike- "Ceruttis Italian Restaurant 66 st and Madison Ave. We were very close. I visited him at his apt in Harlem. He had a 27 inch CRT TV. Tell them I'd like to answer any questions they have."
@@SugarBearMosher How long ago did you meet him? I mean my great grandpa? Or are you referring to Mike Lipskin? My great grandpa died a long time ago. I was a little girl like 8 or 9. Gonna send this recording to my dad and see what he says about it👍🏾
It is possible that Mike Lipskin recorded these, he does not remember. Mike attempted to record Willie on site at his workplace, however a patron complained about the situation.
What a thrill this is for me,after playing this style for 60 years,I finally get to hear the great Willie gant solo.what a treasure.
I am currently working on the second song "Twilight In Turkey" in Gant'a style! Tough...
He is my Great Grandpa, his daughter Adele Gant my Grandma. I wish I had known him.

After You've Gone is such a great tune!
Willie (The Tiger) Gant he was our Great Grand Father Our Grand Mothers Adele (Gant) - Warren father, and our Mothers grandfather. 🫡👍🏿✊🏿💪🏿

The second tune is Gant’s interpretation of “Twilight in Turkey”, a 30s instrumental novelty by Raymond Scott.
Fantastic, thank you for identifying it! The more i listen the more i love it. I must have listened 20 times by now.
Fancy seeing the king od modern ragtime here!
Thank you for sharing this!
It really doesn't sound like "Twilight" to me, more sort of a minor key song that resembles it.

The last tune is The Most Beautiful Girl in the World from the show Jumbo.
Thanks a lot!
Truly great! Many thanks for posting this precious piece of musical history!
Wow, great! I don't think I've heard many piano solos from Willie Gant before.
Never heared this pianist, thanks for that!
INCREDIBLE!!! I will post a link to this in my willie gant interview video. Thank you so much for sharing these treasures.

@@Mialamorena1 mike met him, not me. I was only born in 1996. Mike knew him from the late 1950s? 1960? through Willie's death.
The middle number resembles "Twilight in Turkey," but in a minor key. I don't think it is that song, perhaps a Gant original.
Jeez
Where did these recordings come from, and are there more?
It is possible that Mike Lipskin recorded these, he does not remember. Mike attempted to record Willie on site at his workplace, however a patron complained about the situation.
Jesus Christ if I closed my eyes I'd guess somewhere between Waller and Tatum. Not done my sums on the dates but holy shit well the fuck done..
Could these be piano rolls?
Definitely recordings. Definitely not piano rolls.
