Hi, you can use any locomotive if you use the Roco 140451 adapter. It only costs a few euros. Then take the piko lok and everything is fine. The control car has its own decoder with its own address, which you can use to control the lighting functions of the car. That's how I do it too. Have fun with the brilliant set.
Hi ANthony these are great looking cars . Maybe add a part number for the loco your looking for . It's possible someone might come across it at a show.
Yes, I have the part number in the video, and it is doubtful it is available in America. I have contacted every known store which stocks ROCO, and none have it, except as part of the entire set. I still have some ways to work it out, so we will keep trying!
Hey, Darrell, thanks for stopping by. It is a different coupler system, that several Euro companies use in their deluxe high-speed trains. I am not sure why, but it is very proprietary.
Hi, John, and thanks for watching. Yes, for some reason several of the Euro companies have this "computer" style coupler on their high-speed models. Roco does it with most of their Railjets, and Märklin does it with their ICE3s and 4s.
That's cool to hear. I have the Railjet OBB, CD Railjet, then ICE 1, 2, 3, 4. I love high-speed trains,e specially Central Europe. I have ridden them all, and love them all (except TGV and Eurostar/Thalys). Cheers and thanks for watching!
Hi Brian! I have never cared too much whether it was true 1:87 or not, but Roco does put a lot of effort into these sets, so it is no surprise how nice they stand out. When you put it next to the stunted versions (which are still nice, but...), then that quality really shows out. I just hope I can find a loco for them.
Great looking set of cars Anthony hopefully you find the locomotive that goes with the set. Will keep the fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that you find it. So we can see it run on your layout 👍🏻 Have a great Friday 🚂🫵
Hello, Mike! Hope you had a great trip up to Smith Falls. Sadly, Toronto is the furthest east I have gone in Canada. Need to get up that way some day. Thanks for the boost!
Hi Anthony, I hope you manage to find the Locomotive to match these amazing Railjet Coaches. It would be great to see the full set with all the lighting and features working. Cheers, Paul.🚄👍👍
There are two folks in the USA who have it... but both are selling it with the cars as an entire set... one for $1,000, the other on eBay for $1,299. I am also hoping I can use other locos, but I have not had it confirmed.
Very very nice cars - hope you get them running soon - nice set! However, at this time I am still some videos behind, so maybe you got lucky and found the locomotive? Enjoy ;-) Bo
You need the Roco 78488, as that is the only locomotive that comes with the coupler pre fitted as these also have the necessary pcb inside with the switches to put it in non-consist mode. The AC ones cannot run without the correct locomotive as they are set up to always trigger the current detection with the leading vehicle These are designed to run as a full consist with fully fitted detail pack on the steuerwagen and locomotive ends. Only one car is capable of being coupled with the locomotive (look for the buffers). That one is in the base package (with the steuerwagen) Piko repainted their UIC-Z vehicles in Railjet colors instead of using the correct body type (Siemens Viaggio) the roof of the Roco set is the correct shape.
Yes, I need the Roco 78488 as mentioned in the video. My Austrian Railjet also fits with its PCBs, but I am not going to try it, in case they are proprietary. I wondered if other versions of Railjet locos in AC would work with these cars or if it is ONLY the 78488. Roco has released a couple new locos with the 4-pin connectors and "suggest" certain sets to run them with. It beggars the question, why release them separately, if they only work with one set of cars, if that is the case.
In my opinion these sets are superior to all other makes & they never derail, be very careful connecting the 6 pin connections. You will need as you say the dedicated bespoke loco for this type of coupling due tothe interior lighting and control car lighting. It's going to be very difficult to find that loco Anthony as it's hard to find it in two rail with the dcc coupling. I will look out for one.. 👍🏻😎
Hi, Jim! Yes, I was too excited to see these for the price- never used, so I bought them thinking I could find the loco. I knew they had the 4-pin "computer/PCB connectors and need the right loco. I was curious as to ANY such Roco loco with the pcb pins would work. I have been told both "yes" and "no." I know of a DCC/2-Rail version of this (70488), and I wondered if it could be converted to AC easily. I can also get a different AC version, but, again, I have been told by some that the trains are proprietary- in other words, you have to have the EXACT loco (78488). These seems weird as Roco releases them separately. Anyhow, all the best to you and yours! Hope you and the family are well!
Wow what an impressive set of coaches and control coach amazing detail, such a shame about the missing locomotive. I have noted down the number and i will keep an eye out on ebay, amazon and there is a few Uk sites that sell 3 rail. If i find any i will contact you. Take care all the best to you and Joyce.
I have been searching for over a week... 7 countries on 3 continents likely to have any of the matching locos. No luck, except stores selling the entire set (loco and cars) and they won't separate.
Ave AD, this Set was for the Loko Roco 79219 ... and it is sold out ... so getting it new would be a miracle ... and getting it use only from trusted seller ... you can also ask the firm Roco for "other" Lokos that has that "special" couplings ... but it would be not the same loko ... best of Luck ...
Hello, Luma... from what I understand, these sets were for the Roco 78488, but maybe there is a second set for the 79219. I can get other (also non-CD) locos with the coupling. I have been searching all over for information on other locos that would work. I have found 2 78488s, but they are part of completed sets.
@@ModelTrainOutsider Nop, the set for the LOK 78488 was 74066 and 74069, see for yourself, go to roco HP search for 78488. BUT ... both will work with your Sets 74141 & 74144, such like another Lokos that have the 4-pol coupling, but these will not match the "blue" set ...
@@LumaMoba That's funny, because the car sets I have say "use with 78488." Go figure. I have seen two full train sets, one has 78488 with these cars, one has 78488 with 069 and 066.
@@ModelTrainOutsider Well both work fine with that Set, so with some Luck you may find one of them in AC version or Roco will bring out a new one in the future. Light a candle ... have fun ... see you in 1 hour.
Hello, Tom! I do hope soon, but I do not see it happening soon unless I do something very crazy, which Joyce is not keen on right now. There is a store in New Jersey which has the loco and the cars in one bundle and won't separate. I could buy the bundle, then sell off my current cars or the cars from the bundle, but how easy to sell them is the issue.
yes it looks like a nice set, i did not realise Piko did the reduced scale shortened carriages like what Marklin does. I like how Roco keeps to the true 1:87 scale. Hope you can acquire a suitable loco Anthony.
Most companies do the reduced scale in their passenger stock. ROCO does true scale in a lot, but also shortens in some series. PIKO did their ICE4 in true scale, but usually it is 1/100. Märklin does some at 1:95, and others at 1:93.5. As for Brawa, JC and the others, I have no clue, although I think Brawa tries to do true scale.
Hi Roger, We almost always ride peasant class ourselves. We did splurge and go first class on the Railjet. They are lovely cars as models and in reality, although the Czech versions in reality are not quite as stunning as the Austrian versions. Not sure why!
Hi, Arthur! Yes, I have wanted them for a while, but can't find the loco to go with them. There is a guy "somewhat" close to You (Jersey suburbs of New York City) who has it, but he is only selling it as part of a full set for $1,000. Ouch!
Anthony, so beautiful! Could you convert a Roco DCC lok? Could you buy another Roco compatible Railjet lok and then go to Roco to get the correct blue body shell as a spare part and swap body shells? A lot of Ma guys swapped body shells on the SBB Re 460's to get what they wanted... my two cents for what it is worth...
Hi, Teri! Thanks for watching. I am looking into whether a 2-Rail/DC version can be converted, as I can get the 2-Rail version of the loco I need. I have heard both ANY PCB-fitted loco can be used and "only the prescribed loco" can be used. More to come.
I appreciate that. Most American shows have a couple guys who do Euro stock, most of it 2-rail and older... rarely the newest stuff, but I am always hopeful! lol
Very interesting presentation. I've ridden these a few times, and they're very nice but not quite as nice as the OBB Railjets. Worth also pointing out that the Piko, as well as being 1/100 length, are also not the correct cars for a Railjet. Railjets use Siemens Viaggio Comfort Cars as a complete package with the ES64U locomotive. The Piko coaches look like a standard European design in Railjet paint.
Hello, Michael and welcome. I have ridden the Czech Railjets once and the Austrian a few times now. The Austrians are indeed nicer. The Czech Railjets, from my understanding, come in two varieties, but all built by Siemens, and there are only 14 of them in reality. In fact, they were bought in conjunction with Austria. As for Piko models, I agree, they never looked 100% correct, when compared to the JC and Roco versions. I attributed much to painting and the abbreviated scale. Still, something was better than nothing for me, and, if nothing else, Piko makes great-looking Taurus/ES64U for the CD.

Thank you. Already found, and done! They just are not ready to find here, but found a shop in the UK and even bought some from Roco direct!
That’s a most impressive set, I can understand why you wanted them, and hope you have the best of luck with getting the locomotiv. ❤
Yes, it is a bit problematic. I was hoping I might find the loco, but no such luck so far. I am looking into other ideas.
