Hello 👋 my beautiful 😍 daughter! I love ❤️ this gorgeous Log Cabin Christmas 🎄 Tree Skirt. Lovely Tutorial. Thank you for sharing. Very easy to follow along.
Man Misty. I dont know how you do it! Cut, sew, press all from your chair! That is some skill. I can not cut sitting down but, i also can not sew standing up! Everyone has their own method! That is such a great tree skirt. This might be the year i make one!!! Thank you.
This is a definite project for me, Misty! How fun & special! Imagine how gorgeous - in so many gorgeous fabrics! Thank you - always. We love you, Jenny, Natalie, the entire “Doan Family, and the MSQC Family/Team. Kindness, Goodness, Hope, Faith, & Love make our world a better place, You all share those things everyday. Thank you, & God Bless. ❤
I'd think you could just leave half of that last long seam (where you put the halves of the tree skirt together) open, then you wouldn't need to cut and bind the opening. You could also make a straight cut across the tops of all the panels, and have a hexagonal opening instead of a circular one. If you did that before quilting you wouldn't need to bind at all, you could put loops and buttons, or ties, or snaps along the long opening (one right at the top where the edges of the hexagonal opening will be) to keep it closed once you got it around the tree.
@@lindacyprus1255 that’s sounds really cool, too! Maybe even fall colors for those months before Christmas. Or maybe even one for Halloween or other holidays! All the ladies at MSQC always give me all kinds of ideas from the videos.
Oh, my goodness, Misty! I love it! This is so adorable with Tasha Noel's sweet prints. Such a cute and handy thimble jar to mark your quilt. Way to be brave and cut into the quilt to turn it into the tree skirt! That is really the hardest part of the project! Thanks so much for featuring this pattern. ♥♥♥
Another great tutorial, Misty! You always give great tips and explain the techniques needed for each project. I look forward to each new video. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Really like this tree skirt! We have never used one but maybe it's time to start a new tradition! TY Misty for sharing this pattern & showing us how simple it is!
Just last night I was looking up patterns for Christmas tree skirts because I want to get them done before Christmas. This one looks so easy and quick.
Absolutely adorable! And so easy, too! Interesting aside - I was just using my 15”x24” ruler like yours this very morning. I sure do like the neon green color of all the MSQC rulers and templates (I have quite a collection!!!).
Very nice table topper, & Christmas tree skirt. 🌲 I love the garland ornaments 🎄idea for the tree.🎀🎁 I've been thinking of buying a 60° triangle ruler, 📐 just like the one you used, for this pattern. I think I would use it often. 📝📏✂️🧵🪡📍Thank you Misty.💜💝 Wonderful video, you did a great job.
I have never machine quilted... we made our patchwork tops and then just used an old blanket or made another patchwork top for the backing, and then just yarn tied to keep things in place once the quilt edges were sewn together. The reason I say this is that I have a question, could you make your circle cut and leave the one seam undone instead of sewing it all together and then cutting the quilted pattern? Anyway it is a beautiful pattern. I always enjoy watching Misty and everyone else at MSQC!
You could just cut the center hole and bind with bias binding instead of cutting along seam. Easy to slip hole over tree stand before you place tree in stand. Thank you for your video.
I would like to see some other color combinations. I have some deep red and vibrant blue fabric I would love to use but I cannot find any photos of tree skirts people have made in this pattern.
I have Pinking blades for my cutter but have never used them. What do you use them for in quilting? I don’t like the linked edges on most jelly rolls so not sure that I’d care for cutting pieces with a linked blade. Just curious. Thanks
Hi Misty, I noticed when you was stitching, you put the long strips on top of your base. Is there a reason or is it personal preference? The reason I’m asking is sometimes long things can turn out wavy and didn’t know if that eliminated that and helped it lay flat? I hope that makes sense. There are just tricks of the trade that I’m still learning. Thank you and this is a really cute fabric line and project. Have a beautiful day.
Wavy or that “hump” in the middle is caused by the long ruler moving when cutting strips. There are many ways to help avoid this happening (happens to me, too) but try putting a small weight at the far end of the long ruler (Donna Jordan does this) and it really works keeping that far end from slipping. I just went to Target and bought a 2-pound hand weight for only a few dollars.
I am very confused about using the 30 degree mark on my long ruler for cutting the ends off the newly sewn strips. My ruler also has the various angles marked (30, 45, 60 degrees). I have watched this part of the video many times and cannot understand the method Misty uses. I wound up just using my 60 degree triangle to cut the edges and keep the angle correct. The pattern just recommends keeping the 60 degree angle on the end cuts. Maybe my ruler is that much different than Misty's. Anybody else have this problem? Thanks! P.S. I am an experienced quilter. I think that's why I'm surprised I can't "get" this method.
@@debralucca7527 Thank you so much 😊 However, I was referring to the quilt on the ladder behind Misty…. The one in the background… The one at 3.00 in the background…
If you use a single hole plate instead of a wide one it will help a lot. A single hole plate is for straight stitching only but it is very helpful as it prevents the fabric from sinking into the hole.
I am sorry this pattern is created by Deonn Stott for Quiltscapes. I can not view the pattern to alter it to make it 40". It is a 58 x 58 finished pattern. You might check out her website so she if she has any variations of the pattern sizes.
You really need to use a rotating mat, or at least a smaller mat that you can turn. Cutting towards yourself, no matter how careful you are, is so dangerous and a bad habit to demo.
Or you can use a smaller mat that you can turn easily. I don't like rotating mats, as they tend to move on me when I'm not expecting them to, but a non rotating, 12x18 mat can be turned easily enough. Anything is better than accidentally cutting yourself.
Some of her projects just need a bigger workspace for cutting and pressing! I don’t know why this series is so stuck on staying in the chair and having very little pressing area! I know it’s supposed to have a home feel to them, and maybe it’s studio space… some of these vids feel constrictive. But lovely projects and Misty is a great instructor even if we rarely see the finished project 😉
I have used and own several rotating mats plus I’ve also used just a smaller mat and all work well. I have never had a problem with the rotating mat moving when I didn’t want it to. Both ideas really make cutting so much easier.
Your circle in the middle is off and noticing that the two points one was further apart than the other and it was closer to one side than the other from doing some like that I am a pain in the backside and needs to be done perfect I would iron a cross in the middle out
So,some else said the same thing - it seems like only a few people are experiencing sound difficulties and I do suggest you check your tech that you are using as it could be a problem there. I use a quite a few years old iPad and have never had a single sound problem even with the very early Jenny videos. Plus I watch movies, old tv shows, etc. and never have a sound problem. But I’m really sure there isn’t a problem on MSQC’s end. Please, no offense meant.
Horrible sound quality. Takes away from your video. Making the ornament would have been a bonus. No guarantee if you spend $10.00 on the pattern you will get the ornament pattern. It has happened before.
Maybe it could be the item you are using for watching. I use my iPad (not a new model) for watching all videos, etc. and I never experience any sound problems unless it’s the video itself. The sound has always been berfect for me, even when watching the earliest videos that Jenny did way back when. Perhaps you might want to check the quality of your technology.
Love watching you your sister in law and mother in law 🤗😉💞 I have learned so much and just can’t get enough .

Beautiful tree skirt - I would have liked to see the finished project, though!
Love the tree skirt, but I think I will make it as a table topper. I have a big round dinning table that it will be awesome on. Thank you!
I like the table topper idea but will do the trees in greens with snowflake background so I can use it all winter

I agree. Would have loved to see the finished skirt . Under a tree.
Thank you for your comment. I was wondering if we would get to see the final project this time around. Guess not. I will not bother watching then.
The thumbnail for the video shows the completed skirt around a tree. Half of it anyway, but we know the other half is it’s the same

I think it does help to keep the long strip on top - there may be some bias areas underneath, and the feed dogs can help to ease that in a bit.

What stops you from having a build-up of threads when you start sewing? Every time I try without a header I get bunched threads.
Your machine and or your thread
