    Yo do have a video expanding on the Mu chords? This whole video was great but the Mu chords alone were worth watching and it really helped unknot what I’ve been hearing in gospel.

    Is tritone sub simply the use of a dominant chord a half step higher than the target chord? That's what it seems like to me

    • @rickfreeth6496
      @rickfreeth6496 23 дня назад +2

      That's the way I've been taught to remember and use the tritone sub

    • @johndiraimo1444
      @johndiraimo1444 22 дня назад +4

      Yes, that is the result but it is better to understand the relationships.

    • @rickfreeth6496
      @rickfreeth6496 22 дня назад +3

      @johndiraimo1444 agreed, the way I approach it is once I understood the theory I could use the " half step above the target" as a reflex device to quickly grab the tritone in time

      Agreed. Well said.
      I only felt to add "understanding the relationship " comment because I find that some students learn formulaic devices without knowing the WHY.
      Of course, understanding the "why" presents us with options... especially when composing new pieces.

    So in the tritone subs example which chord were you basing that substitution off of? I see from the C in the 2nd half-when you played the Gb chord, but what was the Bb chord based from? (Maybe i need to watch with my glasses on!) Hmmm I'm a bit confused.

    Loved the MU chord. Why do you call it a MU chord? Is it an acronym

  • @chainmanz7476
    @chainmanz7476 3 дня назад

    would you say the tritone sub is the drop in diminished but dominant instead?

    Hi Jonny do you teach soloing? I really want to learn improvising as a solo player. It's like dancing... It looks easy, but executing seems tricky in certain types of styles. i.e.....blues, rock, pop, ballads...

    • @PianoWithJonny
      @PianoWithJonny  16 дней назад

      Yes we teach that in our membership: pianowithjonny.com/learning-tracks/soloing-fundamentals-track-1/

    Is the "Mu Magic" sub technique just some very Jonny name you made up for something you discovered?? Does it go by any other more boring conventional names we can search up? Quite interested in that one.
