For those wondering why you don't just use two pieces of toast or two cats, the answer is simple.
The toast is only half of the equation. Adding more does nothing. It's the base ingredient for the power you'll create.
But to actually _produce_ power, you need something to kick-start the process.

That would merely rip the toast in half. Toast has too low a of a tensile strength. The cat, being much more massive than the toast, bears the brunt of the rotational force and, having a higher tensile strength, can survive for a longer time.
Using two cats taped to each other's backs would have add too much mass into the system exponentially increasing the energy output to dangerously unstable levels and the cats begin scratching a hole into spacetime. In all experiments using a two cat system the cats seem to vanish without a trace and the testing apparatus were destroyed.
I cracked with laughter when he dropped the toast from about 1 in and it still managed to land butterside down.

People! Here's why he can't just use two cats or two toasts:
The large difference in mass causes the cat-toast device to be imbalanced, thus resulting in a large momentum each time the cat is thrown up with very little counter-balance. With two toasts the difference would be so negligible that he'd get less power out of it than they already had with the old set-up. With two cats they'd rotate slow enough to maintain orientation, gain control and claw him to death.

Everything about this is so perfect. Just so very perfect. From the spin up of the cat/toast rotor to the zoom in on his face as if to say "I have seen the infinite." It's just perfect.
My favorite parts are the cat's meow before he goes for the big spin and the "woohoo" in the distance when the outside lights go up, priceless! The little details are what really seals the deal!

As the cat spins faster, the centrifugal force eventually causes the butter to fly off, and the "machine" would then stop.
I like how the butter shines really brightly as the thing starts up. That was a nice touch.
