This is GOD speaking! I heard him play MIyan ki Todi one morning in Bharat Natya Mandir in Pune and then Rageshree in Gandhrva Punyatithi. It is unfortunate what is happening in India today with low grade music, hybrid Western music, young generation growing on fusion music. We are forgetting this is the land of Tansen, Baijnath, Haridas swami, Vilayat Khan, Raviji
Ustad Vilayet Khan took sitar and sitar music to heights unachieved in the past. This, to the future generation sitar players remains also a dream impossible. It is not just riwaz and technical mastery but its combination with sweet aesthetics that makes Khansahib unique. Subroto RoyChowdhury
The young woman interviewer most definately has eye s For the Elderly Sitar Maestro .....Master... He is very refind and erudite in speec and manner... It show his high intellegence and refinement through decades of discilpine along with deep understanding in how Intricate and deep his exploration into both Sitar and Raga... These tapes are wonderful in that even tho he is passed allows us the opportunity to still learn from him. Hopefully when another grand Maestro Comes along we make a greater effort at recording them so as to have deeper sharing of the wisdom they have ....

I'm sorry, but when he sat on an aeroplane did he not feel, 'confusion'!!! Why is the harmonium very popular. It's a European instrument. If only JS Bach was born in India.
Harmonium was introduced into India by Europeans but was gradually adopted and became more or less a native instrument. Like cricket, tea, railways and other European imports it eventually became synonymous with Indian culture. It became popular probably because it was easier to tune and play than other Indian instruments such as sarangi. For the purpose of accompanying vocal music for example, harmonium was simply more convenient. You may wish to note that harmonium is still mostly used only as an accompanying instrument for vocal and tabla solo. It did not replace any of the native instruments such as sitar, sarod etc.
Harmonium dissolved in shastrirya Sangeet. So it's not a problem.but when guitar comes in to play it can never be blended in our classical music.so boycott guitar
He should be awarded by Bharat Ratna ❤ Gurudev Vilayat Khan Sahab ❤🙏

Music is universal. But nobody can deny that India classical music is very rich and deep.
