I have Basque, Irish and Jewish just 1% ancestry from my dad who was from Guanajuato. His mother was Mexican indigenous Chichimeca native who marries an Apache Indian-my grandfather. I have the last name Morales and when I did my DNA had 50% indigenous blood 🩸
I believe in Onate's expedition into New Mexico had "SIERRA" and "DeLUNA" families with them, 1690s? But after the 1870s some, but not all moved to ESPANIA.
Tokyo Drifter, there were early Tlaxcalan foundations in Nueva Vizcaya (Durango) such as Nombre de Dios. There are a large amount of Nahuatl toponyms too. I'd argue against the mostly Basque founders of southern Nueva Vizcaya...
So, the founders were definitely Basque. Are you implying that Tlaxcalans created a government called Nueva Vizcaya? That doesn't logically make sense and sounds like you're coping for no reason. The governing institution itself was created by Francisco de Ibarra. But, yes, Tlaxcalans supported those efforts. Also, the genetic composition of Chihuahua and Durango is far more European than other parts of Mexico.
The two lastnames strated to be more in use from thr inquisition times, to prove that you were an “old catholic” from a catholic mothet and father ancestry. Up to the mid 1700, ranch grants were only granted to “old catholics” but the law had to be relaxed when the french started to wedge themselves between florida and texas, then anyone coming from spain could get land grants including new catholics (conversos) who were in some cases crypto-jews or crypto Muslims. That’s why you have in the north many Zamoras and Obeds and arabic root names and other hebrew ones as well.
Where can I find the list of names for Ibarra? And anyone else? I’ve been able to go as far back to the early 1700’s but the handwriting is getting hard to read and kind of hitting a road block
My last name is Mendoza from Mazatlan (dna 44%) and according to dna I’m 17% basque (what ??? ) Spain (27%) I knew about Spain but basque never heard of ….you should differently take one is …super interested
Last name is Rojas I ask my parents for information but don’t get much since my grandfather had a book with our family names but can’t find it anywhere after he passed
Have you come across the surname “Sereno” from Michoacán in your research? There is some vague oral history in our family that it is from Italy, but I haven’t been able to substantiate it. Have found up to my fourth great grandfather on that line.

Where does the last name “Luna” come from and do you know any history about the “Chimizal” we have a deed my grandfather and how it was stolen. I am 67% Indigenous of the Mexicos. So I know that I am Native but we are trying to find who we are related to. What we know is that we started from Los Canada de Los Rico’s in Largos de Moreno Chief Juan Cristibal do you know anything about this. We are needing help and we have our documents. I have a channel here
my father's family told us that we took on the name Herrera because a Spanish man married my indigenous great grandmother, her daughter had Herrera name and it became a maternal name because all the women in our family on that side married many men and didn't give them their last names, but all the men they married were from various parts of Chihuahua and some Caribbean, central Mexico so when we get our DNA tests all have a bunch of different types of peoples all over the place. my great great grandpa had the last name Guerrero and there was a scuttle but we were related to Vincente Guerrero somehow, they also had a buch of ancestry on that side to the same branch that links to a lady named Isabella de Moctezuma, she may have taken on the name or possibly related to Tlatoani Moctezuma somehow.... its extremely hard to find indigenous ancestry because not to many people kept records.. Be neat to look into though..
@@TheTokyoDrifter idk know exactly they don't like talking about it and our native last name has been lost in time. I will try to pressure mi familia see if sueltan la sopa since I am the one that knows the family lore for the new generation I should get all of it. Keep you posted
