I really appreciate the discussion around roleplaying and making characters that do not share the morality or thought process of the player. I do that in most of my games and find it very fun, freeing, and occasionally, informative. Tu es simpatico, Dan Jones.
Slay Belle is SO GOOD. Perfect, even. Can't wait to see the shenanigans she gets up to with her...mentor? Partner? Boss? Not sure how this relationship works yet. But it'll be grand, no doubt.
with the bringing of slay belle i feel the need to present an amusing anecdote... when i was introduced to this channel i believe it was just around when you were starting your coop bloodborne playthough. i was not very familiar with from soft games at that point so you were one of my first exposures to them. then of course, when i hear that you summon a friend with a *bell* , why of course *sleigh bells* would play during that period of time. i later watched you guys play dark souls 3, and when i heard the sleigh bells i was used to them and didn't even really question them at all... it was not until the play frame highlights containing the start of that joke that i realized they were edited in. so uhh, good job i guess? you got me?
"I feel like Silksong is coming first. A shadow drop is coming." Boy do you rarely get such vivid reminders that these are recorded in advance as that.
What Dan Jones is talking about at the end I feel. If I find a cool thing, even if it's overpowered I should be able to use it. This is a single player game, there is no consequences to me having fun by being overpowered. Or even to what Floyd mentioned about fighting through an area to get a cool thing, knowing there must be a cool thing because of how tough the area is, when I played Jedi Survivor earlier this year there's a section I found and had no idea why it was there and what I was doing there but I fought through a bunch of tough fights and at the end got a great upgrade and that made the whole thing worth it and made me want to explore more now knowing that more things like that could happen
The ironic thing is how Sleigh Bells would be the thing that makes a jingle, yet we now have the opposite of that, with Lady Jingle, in a way, making Sley Belle.
0:35-2:40: Elise made a decent straight-man to Lady Jingle. I hope Slay Belle finds her own way to be Jingle's foil. 3:10: ...well. 20:00: We all remember Silly Hat Logan. 25:55: Demon's Oysters 36:40: ...emphasis on "seems," I suppose? 1:01:25: Have you seen Noah Caldwell-Gervais's video about the first 2.5 Baldur's Gate games? That's basically how NCG describes BG1, an automated dungeon master.
Baldur's Gate 3 has a part early in the game (accessible maybe an hour into a playthrough even if you don't shoot straight for it) where a legendary character is present in the world. Normally he is uninteractable outside of a forced cutscene where he immediately leaves and disappears at the end before you have a chance to interact with him. HOWEVER... if you have a character with the Command spell, they can use it on him before the cutscene starts and force him to drop his incredible weapon (with a 12% chance usually...) that can turn one of your NPCs (or even your main character) into an absolute powerhouse for the rest of the game. Don't worry Dan, the spirit of early accessed broken gear is still alive and well (:
Elden ring does have separate scaling now for pvp and pve, wasn't so for a long time after launch It's very neat to have broken builds that just hit different in pvp Sadly stuff like charge times and other animations have to be the same because you can be thrown into pvp at any time, but just having pve be its own thing is nice
I saw people mentioning the Cling Ring in comments but it wasn't until I hit 34:24 that I realized how precision-timed that swing-and-a-miss was. Floydian Roger-Rabbit comedic timing at its finest. (If you ever find a way to invoke it on purpose you will become too powerful)
Aw, I’m bummed the Dan Hunter Covenant doesn’t have a sharp implement stabbed straight through a stylized D. Great work on Carrie’s Covenant Pin though! Also, for anyone who gets a chance to see any of these Dans IRL, remember; the customary greeting is: “Hey!”
My brain decided to combine Dan Jones' statement, "The world is an oyster," with the song lyric from "Rat in a Cage" by The Smashing Pumpkins, "The world is a vampire," and now my brain is trying to imagine a vampire oyster. Thanks for that, Jukebox Brain Cell.
_Very_ excited for this! Can't wait to see what happens! I agree with Dan Floyd, the cartooniness of the characters in this game is really weird at first. When he talked to that first guy, it was like a Potionomics character had suddenly popped in for a chat.
in my head cannon slay belle is elyse's sidekick alter ego. hear me out: at first elyse was lost in the land of the dark souls. she was fighting just to survive, and being desperate, called out into the void for help. lady jingle answered, and together they vanquished the lord of cinder. elyse was reluctant to accept the way of the jingle at first, but time after time when elyse was in danger, lady jingle answered. slowly, elyse was trained in the art of the jingle. now she is ready. she has accepted the mantle of slay belle. she has donned her mask (face paint) and together she and lady jingle will bring chaos to boletaria. only the noble dan hunters can stand against the dynamic duo.
I’m late, but so excited to finally experience a dan souls coop while it’s being released. Finished the ds3 coop only about two months ago, but still was pretty late watching it haha.
Also, with the discussion of Lady Jingle’s deep lore, she is our Eternal Lady of Violence. If Jones ever plays/has played the recent Warhammer 50k game, Lady Jingle shall still be 50,000 years into the future.
When I finally started playing through the Souls series myself, I already had a character and build in mind. Basically: - Dark Souls 1) Doctor Strange found his way to Lordran and became a professor, eventually becoming afflicted with the undead curse (Professor Strange, multi-caster build). - Dark Souls 2) Professor Strange was inducted into the military due to his effectiveness in combat, gaining the rank of lieutenant (Never played, but; Lieutenant Strange, multi-caster build). - Bloodborne) I'm not sure how he ended up in Yharnam, but Strange ended up becoming a hunter (Also never played, but; Hunter Strange). - Dark Souls 3) Lieutenant Strange fought in many wars over the years, earning rank of commander (Commander Strange, multi-caster build). - Elden Ring) After many long years and many hard wars fought, Steven Strange finds himself in the Lands Between, only retaining his name and his affinity for the mystical arts. All else has been lost (Steven Strange, multi-caster build).
Hey Dan, your wooden shield actually is a Buckler! They're small round shields used for personal defense. To qualify as a full shield, it needs to be able to be used as part of a shield wall. :) So yeah, you're using a buckler!
Hey Dan! Just found your channel a few nights ago for Kingdom Hearts and I loved it. Funny enough, I'm about to start making videos (just ordered a nice mic today) and this was going to be my first game.
Could almost hear a theme song for Slay Belle starting in my head for some reason. 🎶Slay Belle ringing, Slay Belle jingling🎶 It's all I got, but should be a good start.
There is something special about going through these games co-op, even though it kinda fights you for trying. Awesome to have another one of these! Could you imagine if From designed their next game around co-op? I'd love them to include more supporty stuff if so, super curious what they'd come up with. I also wonder what kinds of enemy designs and anti-cheese AI they would utilize, managing aggro etc., perhaps a lot of MMO designers etc. would get a lot of new notes to take. Surely, over the years, they've had many ideas seeing all the duos have... sometimes less than balanced experiences.
Here's my theory glowing eye may stem from people observing certain animals eyes with night vision. Years of mythology and speculation turns into inspiration for fantasy.
Just like Lady Jingle has the bells sound when she appears. Slay Belle should have the opening guitar riff of Infinity Guitars by Sleigh Bells when she appears.
Exaggerated mouth animation is something I also associate with "photorealistic" CG characters in live action movies, like Tarkin in _Rogue One_ or the BFG. And I think the problem is that people who are aware that they're doing facial capture are going to be more conscious of their mouth movements and will subconsciously overdo them. I don't know if this is a solvable problem.
Bewarned Dans, for I have aquired a Dan Hunter badge. Though my virtual skills in From Soft worlds mayhaps be little to speak off. I shall find thee in the waking world. No Dans shall be at easy at conventienal gatherings. As my martial prowess both pole arm in hand and unarmed are uncommon in this age that has transcended the need for blades.
Re: that feeling of knowing if I go to place x and do thing y, Ill have the most powerful z in the game is totally back with a vengeance in Baldurs Gate 3. I've found it addicting to still go back and play exhaustive runs through the game with certain builds just because I know there's a cool item that synergizes well with them in some random dungeon I found on an old playthrough. I love it
I think my main issue with the facial animations is that *only* the faces are animated. The rest of their bodies are just as perfectly still as they were in the original release, so it comes off as super uncanny valley having a hyper emotive face on a completely still body.
Did anybody else catch that the monumental doesn't move their mouth as they speak around 56 mins in? Are they speaking telepathically? Fascinating little detail.
I *vaguely* remember the stream where Slay Belle was named. It's possible I had a hand in that? I mean it sounds like the kind of incorrigible pun I'd make.
I was the one who suggested Slay Belle, during a Holocure stream last year! I'm so glad you liked it enough to use it!
Such a great idea! It's genius
upvote this ^^ !!
Ah the talk about where to find the cling ring while Dan is picking up the cling ring and not even noticing.
Classic Dan souls really
Classic
wouldn't be Dan Souls without it
👨🍳😙🤌
The "we're coming for you" outro will start hitting different now that Lady Jingle has a sidekick
Read this comment just as the out started playing. 100% correct.
Now we need to get Floyd's character a finger accessory. Slay Bell's ring, donchaknow.
Sorry, I wasn't listening...
I mean this with the deepest respect: BOO!
You're fired.
You can tell by Prime's "Well, hello" that he knows all the PlayFriends will be immediately stoked for this. (We are.)
Instant dopamine hit from that greeting
Optimus Prime?
@@alenezi989a3haha RUclips translated that to 'Best Prime' and I can only say - Yes! 😆
Yes indeed
Jones: Where's the Cling Ring? We're gonna want that.
Floyd: Oh, yeah, that's a good one to find.
*Picks it up and doesn't notice*
I'm just looking at the screen Chuckling the whole time.
At least Dan in this instance knows himself well enough to check his inventory for it when DJ mentions the ring. 😅
🤣
@@culade right? I was expecting them to go several episodes before seeing he had it
Into the Jingle-verse, with Slay Belle

Same.
You guys just made my week! I've been missing the Dans Souls content
I cracked up so hard @34:31. Yeah, Cling Ring would be great to find (just don't look at the upper right of the screen).
LOVE this series. its so good to listen to while cooking and cleaning - chill and companionable
The Dan and Dan romp around fromsoft games podcast, is my favorite podcast.
They also make good “working on data entry” background.
OMG I literally finished rewatching your original Demon's Souls playthrough yesterday!
I started tuning into this channel because of your first Demon's Souls playthrough with you guys, so this is a fun callback.
"I feel like Silksong is coming first. A shadow drop is coming."
Boy do you rarely get such vivid reminders that these are recorded in advance as that.
Yaaaaaay! I've been looking forward to the Dans's Souls co-op
Yea woo! So excited for this, hope you wonderful Dans have a great time through the remake!
Yes, the shortcut door in 1-4 was an addition to this version of the game. There are two other things I know of that were added in this version.
I was literally just today thinking about rewatching a Dans vs soulsborne, but then this popped up!
Every game is just a different point in Lady Jingles timeline? She must be an eldritch entity!
By the warmth of the coffee covenant this remake is beautiful
yes! I needed Dan Souls back, and I'm even more excited that the remake is finally on the channel!
34:35 is absolutely peak Dan-ness.
This is the first of the souls dans videos I'm watching, I'll probably go back to watch the other ones but I'm glad to be joining in and watching!

The ironic thing is how Sleigh Bells would be the thing that makes a jingle, yet we now have the opposite of that, with Lady Jingle, in a way, making Sley Belle.
But one thing remains true: Wherever the Jingle goes, Slay Belles will follow.
0:35-2:40: Elise made a decent straight-man to Lady Jingle. I hope Slay Belle finds her own way to be Jingle's foil.
3:10: ...well.

A new Dan and Dan Souls-like adventure? Sign me up for the laughs and good times! Let's gooo!!!

NEW DAN SOULS!!!!! I'm so very excited
I'm so happy u guys are doing this co op. I was worried ud skip straight to Elden ring and I think more people should see this glow up
This is so pretty! And the cling ring discussion was hilarious, I almost expected a zoom in on the item
34:25 "We need to find the cling ring"
"Yeah that'd be good to find" says Dan, as he picks up the Cling Ring.
44:10 "See, that's not a dragon. That's a Wyvern."
44:40 Yeah, that shortcut was added in the remake. I remember thinking how much both Dans would appreciate that change
Been waiting for this. Bluepoint did an amazing job with the remake.
I've been waiting for this!
I have never clicked on a notification in my subscriptions so fast. This is gonna be awesome!
This brought me deep happiness. I'll be here for this one.
The two dans talking over all of the beginning sequence about adjacent topics. Epic lolol
Love the poses for the thumbnail art!!

Dan talking about Cling Ring... "That'd be good for you..."
*Dan literally picks it up immediately after and doesn't notice.*
XD
I remember being there when we workshopped this name! I remember seeing it in chat. It wasn't me, but there were a lot of good other options that day.

Demon's Souls has a remake?!
Yup. It was a launch title for PS5. It's pretty good.
Ive been playing this when i can. Maybe ill drop by as an Dan Hunter

So yeah, you're using a buckler!
I hope we get to see Lady Jingle and Slay Belle doing some havoc in Baldur's Gate 3 probably around 2030 after Elden Ring
Top tier banter. This series is gonna be great.
Hey Dan! Just found your channel a few nights ago for Kingdom Hearts and I loved it. Funny enough, I'm about to start making videos (just ordered a nice mic today) and this was going to be my first game.
Welcome! And good luck with your own video-making!
I really want fanfic or fan art of the characters now!
omg he really did pick up the Cling Ring right the very moment they were talking about the Cling Ring, and didn't notice
Could almost hear a theme song for Slay Belle starting in my head for some reason.
🎶Slay Belle ringing, Slay Belle jingling🎶
It's all I got, but should be a good start.
Yeeeeah, more multi-Dan co-op souls!!
I am a proud member of the coffee covenant. As per the laws of my order, if I am encountered at a con, I will join for coffee.
Ooh, some Lady Jingle lore! She must have been delighted by Zenos and/or Sadu in 14
Hooray for the return of Dan Souls!

A party-based dungeon crawler in the From style would be pretty dope. Maybe not practical though.
@@christopherlundgren1700 It introduces a ton of design challenges for sure
100% agree with Dan's feelings on balance and the fun of having a broken build.

in skyrim i stopped reading all books in baldur's gate 3 i read all the books i could read
Soooo... now that we have the official pair, when will you guys cosplay them? :D
Surely, they'll be invaded by one of Lady Jingles' many archnemeses, Hymn
Just like Lady Jingle has the bells sound when she appears. Slay Belle should have the opening guitar riff of Infinity Guitars by Sleigh Bells when she appears.
The Dans are back in town!
Hurray! I'm excite for this. :D

As far as I can remember the lusty argonian was 'written' in Morrowind by Caius Cosades? or something like that? Maybe I am wrong about that.. :D
I want this rp comic of Lady Jingle and Slay Belle so bad!!
"Where to find the cling ring"
*Picks up cling ring*

Now there needs to be a Tea sippers covenant, and a cocoa cozy covenant
The Dan hunters should name some of their characters “Belle Slayer” or something
Sadly, invasions show up as their PS ID in this game
I'm looking forward for Slay belle adventures, especially in Elden Ring seamless co-op mod.
Wooooooo more Dan Souls

THE RETURN OF THE DEATH COUNTER WOOT
I’m loving the Lady Jingle deep lore! I knew she was ageless and timeless, and soon she will have a murder partner.
I FORGOT THIS COULD BE A THING. Heck yes, I'm so excited for another co-op run. Looking forward to Lady Jingle meeting her new bestie next week. :D
Yay! I’ve been missing Dan souls
Did anybody else catch that the monumental doesn't move their mouth as they speak around 56 mins in? Are they speaking telepathically? Fascinating little detail.
😍 i need that coffee covenant pin.
Is the BG3 playthough being streamed/recoded somewhere of is that some well deserved side fun?
finishing baldur's gate 3 & then go trough the sub reddit is great i have so many new plans when i replay it again
