I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who watched any of my videos for this playthrough, and especially those who stuck with me for the entire ride. Your comments, feedback and encouragement were very much appreciated and definitely kept me going through this lengthy and at times frustrating journey (it's safe to say that any major battle with music took me close to 15-20 tries to record a perfectly synced run). My goal with this playthrough was to showcase all the hard work that went into the making of this game, and present it in a cinematic and engrossing way to viewers, as if I was Freeman himself. From the feedback, it seems as if I've accomplished that, and I'm very happy to hear that. Half-Life has always been my favorite series of games because, with the proper pacing and gameplay style, you really do feel as if you're part of a world that's bigger than you can ever understand, but at the same time participating in a big budget action movie where you are the badass hero. Thanks again. While I don't have any immediate plans for videos in the future, I do want to eventually do a Half-Life 2 playthrough, as well as the episodes. Of course I will also be playing Half-Life: Alyx when it comes out, although I probably won't do a playthrough for that anytime soon.

@@Sexy_Nutella Same here, I know it probably won't be released for quite some time, if ever, but I'm so pumped for what Tripmine has in store. I love the video where they showcased how in Guard Duty, Barney will actually go through an animation where he picks up a flashlight, as opposed to just having the same kind of flashlight as Gordon. It's such a small, yet very important detail that I always thought was odd in Blue Shift.
Beating the game on hard difficulty was an absolute blast. Didn't even care if it was getting to the point of trial and error in the later phases at this difficulty playing blind, the challenge was just too much fun.
Great playthrough! Also during phase III Nihilanth can throw at you not even shipping containers but also TANKS and APCs! That's how he mad at Gordon. And in HL1, besides vortigaunts, alien controllers would spawn into the lair too by the same method.
I wonder if there's a complete list of objects he can throw at you, it does seem like a lot haha. Didn't remember the note about the controllers, thanks for the correction!
I KNEW it was crossfire!! The first time I played through the fight, I thought it was the scientists teleporting in Black Mesa chunks because of the supplies. After I saw Nihilanth throw cars, though, I figured Nihilanth was just trying to crush Gordon or something (and the rooms were coincidently filled with rockets lol!!!)
I might be mistaken, but I think the devs did say something about Nihilanth wanting to throw those chunks of Black Mesa at you but that they were too heavy so they just fell to the ground instead. That's why he decides to toss the cars and stuff at you instead hahaha
Many thanks for the detailed playthrough. Me personally - I've reached only the point at the end of the Lambda Core in which Gordon telerports to Xen. I've never played the Xen part neither in BM nor in HL1 and this surely feels and looks like a different game. It has always amazed me that the Nihilanth's race was subdued by the Combine. I could only imagine the war this happened in but since the Combine have Telepathy, Freezing Time capabilities and mind-control I wouldn't be surprised that the Nihilanth's race lost. After all however what adds more pecularity of the whole cataclysmic event is the fact that according to the lore, the last Nihilanth and all the Xen creatures are RUNNING AWAY from the Combine, not trying to conquer Earth. They were hoping to use Earth as a sanctuary, yet instead, drew the Combine to us. Something which Gordon and all others will have to cope up with in HL2 and the episodes. And now, after the retcon ending in HL: Alyx, the ending of HL2, ep.2 has been finally fixed and we may get a HL3! And above all else towers the question, who exactly is the G-man. Many thanks again!

I really don't understand or like this boss fight. Feels like there's a 50/50 chance of me just dying at random because everything is so hectic and utterly incomprehensible, either due to the stupid fucking mess of clashing colors, or the hazards he throws at you which you don't have the time, or the mobility, or the reflexes to react to because you're constantly jumping around. It definitely plays more like Doom 2016 than the original HL1, but I personally loved this re-imagining of the fight for the reasons you hate it haha - the necessity of constant dodging and having it be more reliant on reflexes and positioning. I do think the attacks are telegraphed enough to dodge them but I can understand your frustration. HL1 Nihilanth did have charm that Black Mesa doesn't replicate fully.
