I want to go to grad school for interior design and I’m scared af to start the process. I admire your ability to do it and especially study OT. Beat of luck! I subscribed!
Hi Crista! I’m a new OT student since the beginning of August. I’m passionate on wanting to be an OT because of the growing need for the kind of interventions occupational therapy offers, especially during these tough times. I became interested in OT in my last year of high school. I first wanted to do nursing, but I have a fear of needles, so I wanted to do something that fit my career goal of serving others in the healthcare field, and that’s I got interested in OT, from my aunt who is one. That interest grew when I got to shadow two years ago at the clinic my aunt, who’s an outpatient rehab OT hand therapist, works at. Now, I’m on week 6 of my first term of OT school, hopeful, and learning :) thank you for your videos, and all the best!
There is so much I love about OT!! I love how OT focuses on providing client-centered, holistic care that impacts an individual's function and independence in meaningful activities. I also love how OTs can work across multiple settings from peds, outpatient, mental health, etc!!
I became interested in OT while working as a medical coordinator in the South Bronx. I was basically a social worker in training. During my time as a medical coordinator I helped clients obtain Medicaid, food stamps, and social security benefits. After a while I felt like I was doing more instead of teaching my clients how to be more independent. I did some research and felt that OT would be the best fit for me career wise. I wanted to help ppl gain their independence back but also make a greater difference in their lives and in what matters most to the patient!
I was first introduced to OT when my grandfather suffered a stroke (7 years ago) and required care to get back to his daily activities and routines. When I realized how much he gained from his OT’s help, I fell in love with this occupation and have been striving to become an OT ever since! I am starting OT school this fall and couldn’t be more excited! Thank you for creating such helpful content! :)))
I’m drawn to OT because while the progress you may see each day with patients may seem small, you get to work with them over a longer period of time and see how meaningful the improvements really are to their day to day lives! It also seems like a field that keeps you on your feet and allows you to be creative and continue learning new things.
What drew me to OT was helping people engage in the occupations and activities that are important to them! I love how client-centered and holistic our profession is. I’m about to start my first Fieldwork II rotation!
I’ve recently become interested in OT and now looking into OT school for next year! My dad was diagnosed with a neurological condition this year and I have been exposed to all of the different healthcare practitioners, plus with covid and re-evaluating my future I think OT is the perfect pathway! The integration of technology to help assist patients in adapting to lifestyle changes is super interesting to me, and having fractured many wrists/fingers growing up playing sport I am also super interested in the specialisation of hand therapy :)
Great video!! I love OT because it brings together all aspects of health into treatment (mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual). It also gives you the freedom to be creative with your patients, no two patients are the same. Thank you for the great content from a future BrOT ✌🏼
Hey Cristal! I’ve been subscribed to you for the past few months and I’ve really been enjoying all of the OT content you’ve been putting out (it’s been keeping me sane through quarantine and waiting to hear back from OT schools that I’ve applied to)! I personally spent a year shadowing PTs and OTs before officially deciding to apply to OT school. I decided to pursue OT because I loved how creative all of the therapists were that I shadowed and how they were always very focused on specific occupations that their patients wanted to get back to. I also love the idea of being able to follow someone over the course of days, weeks, and months and being able to build a positive relationship with them while helping them to do the things they want to do, if it’s simply to not have as much pain in a certain extremity or if it’s improving handwriting, getting dressed independently, and so much more! Like another person who commented, I’m also an aspiring BrOT and I can’t wait to join this awesome profession!
I fell in love with OT when I was volunteering in a rehab hospital while completing my kinesiology undergrad! I am currently going into the second year of my masters and I am so excited to almost be an OT!
You deserve it!!! Congratulations. Super cool video!
thank you so much!! :)
I posted a whats in my back pack video because you inspired me💛

I'm currently an OTA/S and what led me to OT was the idea of helping others with different things that we normally take for granted on a daily basis!
beautifully said ❤
