- Step one to setting up a fish aquarium is to obtain the fish tank you desire. You can then fill it with your desired substrate of choice. Sand and gravel is the most common substrate to use in a fish aquarium. You should use an average of 2 to 3 inches of sand or gravel in the aquarium. You can then add the water to your fish tank. Once you have added the water inside the tank you should use an aquarium dechlorinator. This rids of the aquarium and makes it safe for your fish and aquarium plants to live in the water.

When choosing an aquarium heater, you should figure on needing 5 W of energy per 1 gallon of water in your fish tank. You should set your aquarium heater to 77 to 81°F. This is the average temperature that tropical fish need to thrive in a tank. when choosing an aquarium filter, you can use a sponge filter or a hang on the back filter. Canister filters are only used for larger aquariums of sizes over 125 gallons.
When setting up a sponge filter, you will need an air pump to connect it to. Start by getting yourself some air line and connect the sponge filter to the air pump. The sponge filter will suck water and as the bubbles rise to the surface. Sponge filters are mainly used on smaller aquariums versus hang in the back filters for larger aquariums.
it is a very big deal to make sure that your fish aquarium has a proper cycle process. This is the stage in which you use beneficial bacteria to grow on your filter pad to create an established ecosystem for your fish and inhabitants to live in. There’s multiple different ways to cycle an aquarium. You can cycle a fish aquarium using fish or you can use fish food to create an ammonia source to eventually turn into beneficial bacteria. It is crucial that you figure out the cycle process for your aquarium.
There’s also a method in which you can jumpstart the cycle of your fish aquarium. This is the process in which you get some used filter pad from an other established aquarium and put it inside your tank. By stealing the established bacteria from another tank and putting it into your tank you jumpstart the cycle process. This saves you the time and headache of having to establish a cycle on your own.
It’s always advise that you set up your fish tank to have a live plants because that is closer to a true ecosystem. Your aquarium will have a lot less maintenance if you can master the art of aquarium plants doing well in your tank. Plants are natures natural filtration And we need to try to utilize that. You will find that your fish and inhabitants are a lot healthier with the plants because it’s closer some other nature of what they’re used to.

I know he means well but damn bros so bad at explaining... 30% of what he said is just "this is complicated" 😭
yeap, doesn't know how to TLDR and simplify things. It's a Beginners Guide.
Super simple explanation that I was able to understand. Thank you
Awesome 🙏
Not sure if we are going to use real plants yet. When would we ad those? Trying to set a 55 gallon up for my 10 year old son that is easy maintenance. The filter will be here tomorrow! Already have a tank with lid. I will check out your other videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This was very helpful thank you!!! 😊😊😊
Very cool 😎 video amazing information 👌 great 👍 job
You could have linked all those videos you talked about in the video. Hard to find what specific video you are talking about.
You helpt me❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey do I need absolutely need 0:16 substrate for any plants? I have Anubias plants and I have them just floating and moving around
from what i’ve been told, substrate is only important if the plants get nutrients from the roots. I’m not 100% sure but I think Anubias get their nutrients from the water. If it doesn’t need to be planted then your fine (liquid fertilizer can be used to give nutrients to floating/ unplanted plants)
What cracking crip♿️
Nah what’s Braccin Blood 🩸
This video complicates things more 😢
5 watts per 10 gallon, not one gallon.
What's your source for that?
I think you're wrong, it's definitely 5 Watts per gallon. The dude in the video was right!
You don't need sand or gravel, carries bacteria. Better without.
I started with aquariums as a teenager. I’m 62 and haven’t had one for about 10 years. I developed an algae problem I couldn’t get control of. Got frustrated and quit. A friend is changing hobbies and I just picked up a 20. So lucky to have RUclips. Looking for refresher courses. I subscribed because I am infatuated with your room. It’s so beautiful.
Thank you! Watched a few videos for beginners but you give some great new tips!
P.S. I love all your aquarium and plants set up in your house😍😍
This is the best fish tank setup video I’ve seen. Thanks for actually showing us. Just set up my 100 gallon
100$ deep already in this hobby, can’t afford being confused ✊💯
Squee
Keeps my 20 gal in 71-75 F, perfect for my bettas, guppies, and tetras
Good details explaination .Good job bro 🤷♂️, that's awesome.
"it's better to over dose then under dose" yeah tell that to my mom who od on heroin
I'm 2 weeks in on a 75 gallon. I used flake food along with stability to get the cycle started. I'm seeing small traces of ammonia so hopefully I'm on the right track
u gonna go with a planted tank?
How's it going
Can you use a used aquarium filter pad to quicken the cycling of your tank?
I've never had an aquarium, can I use distilled water to fill it?
Thank you very much for beautiful tips! What I like most about you is you explained it slowly, calmly and very clearly. I mean each and everything was quite crystel clear. As a newbie to this field, I am trying to research and gain as much knowledge as I can, but as a beginner, sometimes couple of things go above the head when I listen to some experts. This video gave me a great insight. Thanks again!
Put soil first then then sand, never use gravel.
Gathering supplies to set up a first time tank! Thanks
Thank you so much. This was very helpful ... my daughter is upgrading and wants to give me her tank for my garage .. my goal for it is to use it to video tape crappie and bass baits that I hand-made.
I may have small fish and sand with plants.
1 thing i would like to mention here is that I have tried almost all of the aquarium planted stuffs, but believe me guys, the most effective thing is the most simple and very very very much money saving, that is go with organic dirt and go with best lights you think you can not afford. works wonders and complete stop to purchasing useless stuff. Just give it some time to mature.
My question with the sand is when you go to clean it, won’t the sand be hard to not suck up?
Good details explaination .Good job bro ️, that's awesome.
This is the most helpful video I've watched so far!
Thank you!
What if I have well water
Watching this the second time, I have 1 20 gallon tank my daughter gave me and now setting up my Waterbox mini 25 at home vs the office :) very helpful information including you advanced stuff. Thank you for sharing
Im so frustrated
what’s wrong
Love this guys videos
First thing we do in the shop is ask water type of tap water weather hard or soft next live plants or not that way you can customize the tank with the right substrates and fish
I love that you mentioned bettas do need a heater
Loving all the plants in the background!!!
Thank you
If my tank is naturally at 76 f do I have to buy a heater? I’m setting up a small 10 gallon tank and am looking to have african dwarf frogs and maybe some guppies or danios along with the adf.
yes we all need this video
What do you think about an under the gravel filter?
A friend of mine recommended, if using fluorescent tubes, having one cool white and one warm light is a less expensive alternative to purchasing full spectrum fluorescent bulbs.
Do you need aquarium lights if you have a natural light source?
To changed the substrate in an already established tank would you just take the water out, keep it in buckets, add new substrate and then water back? (In short) ?
im getting two fancy goldfish soon i was just curious if they would still need a heater since ive heard there mainly cold water fish
man i thought i can just buy a glass box chuck a cool fish in with a few rocks and thats it
I noticed you don't use covers on your small tanks, is there any difference. I'm thinking of not doing covers
Do I need dechlorinator if I used bottled water
Chloride leeches out tap water after an hour it’s a supplement scam imo unless actively changing water
Thank you for the video. Found it useful and concise.
Im just wondering if your floor is reinforced? Lol 😅
Looks complicated lol but will try
Always pull used filters to start my aquariums..❤
Great intro video, thanks for doing one for nubies!!
