Hi Guys. I want to test a air gun, and i need to tighten a bolt to 2000ft-lb. I'm wondering how long of a Bar you need and how hard you need to press on the bar to tighten a bolt to 2000ft-lb as i don't have a torque wrench that big.
Hey man, Let me get into some physics which I think would help you. 1 lb ft of torque, is a 1 lb force applied at the end of a lever that has the length of 1 foot. You can calculate all others in a linear manner. 2,000 lb t of torque is a lot. Let's say you can apply a maximum of 200 pounds which is the weight of an adult male, you will have to , without the use of gears, apply that force to a lever that is 10 feet long to achieve results. You can have two 5 foot levers and torque them in opposite directions with the help of a friend if the 10 foot lever is too much.
This isn’t very smart comparing to using a torque multiplier, you can do it with 200 ft lbs torque wrench with 10:1 ratio… just have to turn it ten times more…
Nice, I've never actually seen one being used. I used to calibrate them. NICE!!
Wow!
damn

with 10 feet of leverage, you would need 200 lbs of force at the end. with 15 feet, you would need about 130, which is a lot more doable.
