That's how hard i fell in love with that series. It's my favorite game series ever, and i still play the mass effect 3 multi-player from time to time.
@Dreadeyeknight Conversing with people and squadmates can be a big part of the series, so if that's not your thing, then no, I don't think it would change your mind.
I remember not enjoying mass effect 3 as much when it first came out. Not bad but not great. Never played it again in tell the legendary edition came out. It’s such a great game it really captures that feeling of being in a war and that you’re really at the last stand. Such a great game!! And an amazing series.
The extended cut and DLC like Citadel and Leviathan make the end of the game much more tolerable. On launch it was one of the worst and most disappointing endings in any medium I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing like S8 of Dexter and S8 of GoT terrible.
@@CrazyxEnigmaI never understood why the ending got hate but that was because I played with the DLC installed 😭 I'm kinda glad I played the games later
@@dr_diddy It was literally pick your color(red blue or green) and the ending sequence was 98% the same between the three Shepard sometimes breathed on red with high enough war readiness and the Reapers flew away during blue or green instead of being killed. Also you got no closure, all that was shown was the Normandy crash landing on some planet and the mass relays appeared to be destroyed. Also the companions you took on the mission disappeared during the run to the beam you didn't see them again. It was *bad* and the massive backlash was warranted unlike what some people who came in later experiencing the better ending and completely ignorant of what happened insist. I know the extended cut(plus it was free in the age of EA and all the big companies making every DLC cost money)and perhaps even the Citadel DLC would never have happened if people didn't loudly complain.
Started playing the legendary edition 3 days ago and I’m hooked. The freedom of choice, the story, the world building and many planets you can explore, it is all top notch and I’m only talking about Mass Effect 1. I can’t wait to move on to 2 and eventually to 3. It is legitimately one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played and it is only gonna get better. What an experience.
I worked mall security back in 2011 and saw Mass Effect 2 in a used video game store. I picked it up on a whim, not knowing anything about Mass Effect. It was weird playing 2 then 1, but I loved it. One of the best gaming experiences I had. Legendary is worth it whether you've already played the trilogy or are jumping in for the first time.
I finally finished the Mass Effect trilogy: legendary edition this week. Yes! It’s still worth it in 2024! An unpopular opinion I would like to share is I actually liked the ending ofMass Effect 3. I thought it gave closure to Shepherd’s story.
i played mass effect 1 on my old ps3 a long time ago, last year i started to play again with my gf and now i finished the whole trilogy like 8 times in total with different characters, i LOVE everything about this series and the goddamn citadel dlc drom ME3 its my favorite dlc ever
I always played my Shepard as a basic human soldier. He may not be as powerful as a biotic, as strong as a krogan, or as smart as a Salarian, but he’s the moral core of the team, who they all look to for inspiration and guidance. Kind of the Captain America of the crew.
Funny I'm seeing this now. Just started the series a few days ago and am already loving the first entry. This was a series I managed to miss out on during the 360 days and have had on my list for awhile. But I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store.
I just want to say Mass Effect sticks with me because in 2007 through 2012 I got to see the story continue from the first to the third game. It was such a cool experience. Even better at the same time Assassins Creed was doing the same thing, telling a story from AC1 to 3. I admit I liked Andromeda too, but for a different reason than the trilogy. I found Andromeda really funny. Like my character should not be saving the galaxy. Almost felt like B Movie Mass Effect and I came away enjoying it.
There is another RPG series that I would put up there with the Mass Effect trilogy in my opinion and it's one I don't think a lot of people have played or know about. Because it's and older RPG series that was exclusively on the PC and is available on Steam. That series is the Quest for Glory series! Because much like Mass Effect you stick with the character you create in the first game and the character imports over thorough out the all 5 GAMES in the Series along with the choices that you made throughout the games and you REALLY get invested in him and in seeing him grow as a character and wanting his story to end great and it can if you play the final game right. The Quest for Glory Collection is one of the most unique RPG series of all time in my opinion and each entry in the QFG series has its own unique tone to it and the overall story grows along with your character. If you are a fan of the Mass Effect trilogy or RPGs in general then I highly recommend The Quest for Glory Collection which you can find on steam! Thank you so much for doing a retrospective on Mass Effect! I really love this channel!
Love this series. My experience on Virmire is one of my most memorable experiences in gaming. I hated Ash but liked Kaiden. I tried negotiating with Wrex but Ash killed him before I could talk him down. When I had to make “the choice”, I chose Ash because she was a woman - women and children first, and all that - and that choice impacted me throughout the rest of the series. And it wasn’t until ME3 that I realised Wrex could be saved - I played the entirety of ME2 and didn’t realise! This made my own playthrough special and unique, and a testament to its incredible design
Mass Effect's buildup is fucking legendary. You start by doing some important, but relatively small-scale stuff. You find out little bits of foreshadowing throughout the entire game, then up the stakes with the second game. Then you play Arrival, and Jesus fucking Christ. You just know it's going to go down. Then the third game starts, and I can honestly say I've never played a game that felt _that_ grand, and _that_ massive. I think it has to do with how personal the game's stories are. But either way, man does this trilogy nail "epic".
I adored these games and the legendary edition has made me adore them even more, I’ve played and replayed it so many times now. You just can’t beat the old school BioWare games like these!
I would say that taking into consideration the ME:LE is often on sale (on pc as well as consoles) it is a low risk to spent 8 to 10$ for the trilogy. I would even argue it is a way much safer bet than buying a new release for 60/70$.
It's the best gaming trilogy of all-time. I've played it through when it came out, the LE Edition on consoles and I'm now going through it for the first time on PC with mods. This will be one of those serise that will stand the test of time.
Mass Effect 1 feels like a game of its time but also just is super important for establishing a beginning in the series. It really doesn't take too long to do a playthrough and you can get a good understanding of most everything Bioware at the time was trying to establish as the beginning of a series and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Obviously Mass Effect 2 is the stand out of the entire series but I really do believe everyone should experience it as the trilogy it is.
As someone who was properly introduced to the series w/ the legendary edition, absolutely yes. I seriously regret passing on these games when I was a kid cause they are something special
Wish they kept the cooldown ammo system instead of switching to heat clips. It was great flavour for the series and helped it stand out as well as being consistent with the lore and setting.
As someone with 3 saves in MELE1 and saving to upgrade my pc to continuing playing the Legendary Edition I say is 100% worth it. Aslo first coment asking matty to review the gothic games from pyranha bytes in every new video
One thing that has stuck with me from Mass Effect BEYOND the incredible story is the never ending cycle of biological life creating artificial life, artificial life rebels, then the Reapers come and do a hard reset on the galaxy to watch it all happen over again.
Absolutely. Played through the trilogy for the first time on LE 2 months ago. Finished it, then a week later replayed the entire thing. So good. Andromeda though.....
Played the series for the first time when the LE released. It’s become one of my favorite video game franchises. I describe it to my friends like the video game version of the MCU. Absolutely amazing!
I know it’s on game pass but I just got the legendary edition on sale for $9 Canadian. 3 games and all of the DLC…insane deal. 90% off for the next 18 days. Pick it up and add it to your collection. You can’t go wrong.
i played and finished me1 for the first time recently and enjoyed it a lot, sovereign has some of the coldest lines i've ever heard. Gonna be jumping into me2 soon.
The mass effect trilogy and bioshock collection are my go to reccs for my friends looking for something different to play. Both are now hanging in that $10-$20 range and I seriously think they’re the best value packages in gaming rn.
For some reason I stopped playing on 2. Probably when there was so many quests to complete. I just beat 1 again and finally beat 2 and did all the quests and saved everyone. Good grief it was so good. Just started 3 and super excited to see conclusion of the reapers story. This game is 200% worth it and holds up today for sure.
To answer the title, HELL YES! I met my Xbox 360 ME game the same way. I AM STILL to this day a Pinnacle Station DLC lover, still mad they didn't save it or remake it for the re-release. Also, that original ME trailer is beautiful.
Just started replaying the trilogy when Veilguard launched. It is absolutely worth it!!! They all have a little bit of older game jank, but they 100% hold up and exceed many modern games with what they deliver.
ME3 got criticism for the ending and the devs (to their credit) made it great with the DLC. It’s a very different experience with vanilla 3 vs all DLC. That’s what makes the Legendary edition so amazing!
Amazing value today. Holds up well (gameplay-wise too past the first game). The only downside is realizing there will never be another great continuation of the series. Andromeda was really poor. After Veilguard, it's clear the old Bioware is long gone.
I tell this story frequently, but I built my first PC many moons ago and blew my entire budget on the build. So I was looking for single player games to pirate and some article said Mass Effect was good. Knew nothing about it. Pirated it, got to Noveria and was so ridiculously hooked that I scrounged up the money to buy it. Didnt have to buy it, just wanted to support the devs because I loved it so much. Well over a decade later and I still play the series multiple times a year. Also, the multiplayer is still alive and well. I play it almost every day and rarely can't find a game (on xbox). You have to download the original ME3 and fight through some technical setup issues, but it's worth it.
My first playthrough of the series I was in like my sophomore year of high school finished the first game and immediately started the second and the opening blew my mind. Walking through the destroyed ship that I had just spent 100 hours in broke me
I really liked Andromeda, I feel it didn't deserve the hate. Yes I was disappointed with the speech mechanics and it was a kittler generic but it was still damn fun and good other wise
@@jeffbrewer1580 I understand that. In my case I played the campaign 1 through 3 seven times and never had a problem getting enough war assets without the multiplayer. I never felt forced to play it and the progression was fast enough to not make me wanna buy boxes with real money,

That's how hard i fell in love with that series. It's my favorite game series ever, and i still play the mass effect 3 multi-player from time to time.
Hey so what if i like sci fi games but don't like rpgs or 3rd person games?
You think id still like it?
@Dreadeyeknight Conversing with people and squadmates can be a big part of the series, so if that's not your thing, then no, I don't think it would change your mind.
Mass effect 1 is my favorite in the trilogy
yh there's just something about ME1 that the other games haven't matched but some of those planets make me wanna kms 😭
I remember not enjoying mass effect 3 as much when it first came out. Not bad but not great. Never played it again in tell the legendary edition came out. It’s such a great game it really captures that feeling of being in a war and that you’re really at the last stand. Such a great game!! And an amazing series.
As a new fan, it’s actually my personal favourite. It’s such a thrilling climax to such a fantastic trilogy
The extended cut and DLC like Citadel and Leviathan make the end of the game much more tolerable. On launch it was one of the worst and most disappointing endings in any medium I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing like S8 of Dexter and S8 of GoT terrible.
@@CrazyxEnigmaI never understood why the ending got hate but that was because I played with the DLC installed 😭
I'm kinda glad I played the games later
The equivalent of asking if perfectly prepared french fries are worth it in 2024 lol
Going to start playing this for the first time soon I think
Best scifi trilogy ever!
star wars?
@@keroseno-po1pw Video game speaking :)
Currently been working my way through the mass effect series I’m a couple of hours into Mass Effect 2 yes yes they are worth playing in 2024
What if i don't like rpgs or 3rd person games but really like sci fi?
Perfect timing for this! Been considering giving the collection a go on my ROG ALLY! 🎮🔥❤️
Just replayed ME1 on the PS5 Pro and I swear it pops just a bit more and was even better than I remembered. Excited to jump into ME2 again now.
Yes the Mass Effect Trilogy is definitely one of the very best video game trilogies of all time!
i played mass effect 1 on my old ps3 a long time ago, last year i started to play again with my gf and now i finished the whole trilogy like 8 times in total with different characters, i LOVE everything about this series and the goddamn citadel dlc drom ME3 its my favorite dlc ever
OMG that intro trailer... wow brings back so much nostalgia. Truly was a special time in gaming 😭
I played through ME this year for the first time and these games changed me.
Just beat it a few days ago loved my experience Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games of all time
I always played my Shepard as a basic human soldier. He may not be as powerful as a biotic, as strong as a krogan, or as smart as a Salarian, but he’s the moral core of the team, who they all look to for inspiration and guidance. Kind of the Captain America of the crew.
Hey Matty I’m playing legendary again on mass effect 2 one of the best game series of all time time keep up the great content !!
Sometimes I listen to the ME2 Galaxy Map loop on You're when I cook.
Just about to finish the trilogy for the first time. Phenomenal experience.
Just for the dialog alone its worth it
This year's N7 Day is certain to be a big one for the modding community!
Servers for ME3 are still up on console, love playing as a geth and teaming up with a quarian
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is 85% on Steam right now.
I would say that taking into consideration the ME:LE is often on sale (on pc as well as consoles) it is a low risk to spent 8 to 10$ for the trilogy. I would even argue it is a way much safer bet than buying a new release for 60/70$.
Man mass effect 2 was the first true rpg and still the illusion man first meeting with space behind will always bring that chill and wave of nostalgia
ME: Legendary Edition is always worth it. Top tier trilogy. Play it every few years.
I love playing this on steam deck when it’s raining outside, with my feet kicked up, laying on the couch with headphones 🎧
I just bought Legendary Edition a couple days ago and am about 4 hours into ME1. Really enjoying it so far
I love that this channel cover retrospective of older games without being like 6 hours long. 😂
Garrus is the best bro in rpg gaming. Just wanted to say that.
Absolutely. Played through the trilogy for the first time on LE 2 months ago. Finished it, then a week later replayed the entire thing. So good. Andromeda though.....
still love this trilogy. just did the suicide mission and lair of the shadow broker yesterday and it never gets old how amazing those missions are
I was there for the midnight launch of ME 3 and god what a time. The hype was beyond for me. What a time to be alive
Played the series for the first time when the LE released. It’s become one of my favorite video game franchises. I describe it to my friends like the video game version of the MCU. Absolutely amazing!
This is another one in my backlog I need to get to. Missed the entire 360 era. Great video.
It’s never too late to hop into the series. Please doand enjoy.
@ yea definitely plan on it :)
Yes, and here's to hoping the next Mass Effect gets the same treatment as the OG trilogy
I bought the trilogy for 2 dollars on some discount. Best 100 hours I've ever spent on gaming.
The mass effect trilogy and bioshock collection are my go to reccs for my friends looking for something different to play. Both are now hanging in that $10-$20 range and I seriously think they’re the best value packages in gaming rn.
I replay the trilogy almost every year. Still one of my favorite RPG trilogies of all time. The glory days of Bioware.
Once a year, I'll sit down and do playthrough with this trilogy. Love it so much!
ME3 got criticism for the ending and the devs (to their credit) made it great with the DLC. It’s a very different experience with vanilla 3 vs all DLC. That’s what makes the Legendary edition so amazing!
Currently on my 10th full trilogy playthrough since ME3 released. It gets better every time I play it.
I’ve played mass effect 123 every Monday. M.E. Mondays. Done so since me3 launched
Amazing value today. Holds up well (gameplay-wise too past the first game).
The only downside is realizing there will never be another great continuation of the series. Andromeda was really poor.
After Veilguard, it's clear the old Bioware is long gone.
I’m halfway through ME1 for the first time (although it is my third attempt) and I love it. I can’t wait to play the others.
Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer was great. I played about 1300 hours of it and still go back to it occasionally.
I didn't like how they tied in your war asset score into the multiplayer forcing you to play it
@@jeffbrewer1580 I understand that. In my case I played the campaign 1 through 3 seven times and never had a problem getting enough war assets without the multiplayer. I never felt forced to play it and the progression was fast enough to not make me wanna buy boxes with real money,
