  • Showcasing some recent developments and hands-on progress in the field of using nonlinear quantum optics in communication networks in our lab with the intent to bridge quantum and classical synchronization. In this network nodes using nonlinear crystals such as BBO and ppKTP can be used to generate entangled signal and idler photons which can be distributed via free space or fiber forming a node in a network that can, in principle, carry quantum information. It is also the intention to have similar, scalable quantum communications technologies such as this in operation at different bands such as in the microwave and c-band for telecoms fibers for example 1550nm allowing for a quantum internet.

Your the first expert to explain entanglement in a way I understand.

I was recently re-reading your long post on AVLIS from exactly a decade ago and vaguely recall reading about a "breakthrough" in the technique around approximately the same time, and yet, as far as I am aware, no one on the planet is actually doing it outside of small-scale laboratory research. Do you have any updates about the status of it or MLIS over the previous intervening decade that I should be aware of?

I have not seen any major developments in laser enrichment in a decade myself and in general their has not been any major breakthroughs in nuclear energy technologies outside of results from projects that were already in the works for decades before now. The media attention given to relatively narrow recent achievements that although interesting have very little to do with large scale nuclear enrichment or energy production. I'm thankfully not working in anything to do with this and don't envy those who are as they are really living off the remnants of state funding from the pre-2010s.

Excellent work!! Impressed by your setup. I have the same IR pumping lasers along with the TTL controlled power supply, though I never got a chance to try and pump a non linear crystal yet.

Thank You, admittedly this setup is by no means the most optimized out there and even with temperature control it is still acting mainly as a classically thermal system with some entangled photons being generated to constitute a signal. Even with BBO the efficiency is low and hopefully I will move to PPKTP as the crystal of choice though they are far more expensive. My ultimate goal is to create 4 of these nodes to display some networking which is where my interests in this currently lie. Systems like this are already being used in quantum metrology which is, as they say, where the money is at the moment.

@@MuonRayHi, I have seen your small laser module, can you give me the data to find it? Any idea how or where to get lasers plus bbo or ppktp at the lowest price? I guess currently they are industrial prices due to a limited production than a mass production could allow, even with a lower quality or sizes could be an option for little experiments, schools or hobby.
