      Thank you and I hope you like the Montem as much as I do. This is likely my final knife design as I honestly don't think I can do it any better than this.

      @@BCNW1 Very anxious to try it. I also ordered a pocket sharpening strop to keep the Montem company in the field. I may have missed this in your video, how did you decide on the name?

    • @BCNW1
      @BCNW1  2 года назад +1

      @@ROE1300 Montem means "mountainside" in Latin, and since we are located at the foothills of the Simcoe Mountains I thought it was a fitting name.

      @@BCNW1 Excellent logic. Plus, you have helped me grow my knowledge of Latin to a total of 1 word. 😂😂😂

      @@BCNW1 👍 My knife arrived yesterday and I have spent the last 2 days playing with it. I understand that is a short time, but I have played with a lot of knives.
      I like your blade design, but I get more excited about handles on knives. I am 6’2” and 240lbs. w/ XL glove sized hands, many knives have handles that are too short or too skinny for my liking. One of the aspects that attracted me to your knife was your description of using clay on a prototype to refine the shape.
      When your knife arrived I immediately thought, “oh no, another too short handle” and set about proving that to myself - I failed! Every way I held this knife, every cut or slice I made with this knife the handle felt very comfortable in my hand. For 2 days I have been experimenting on wood, cordage, and fish hoping I would be right - I failed. Yes, for me the handle could be 1/4” longer, but the girth compensates for that. I plan to continuing experimenting for the next 5-10 years to prove this handle is too small, but I am not optimistic. Very nice knife, absolutely no buyer’s remorse. Oh, and the hybrid flat/scandi grind on the blade works well.

    Would sharpening this knife be the same as sharpening a scandi grind knife? Would you possibly make a sharpening video for this knife in the future? Thanks.

    • @BCNW1
      @BCNW1  2 года назад

      Hi Craig, yes it’s exactly the same as sharpening a Scandi as the bevel is just wide enough that you will feel it flat on the stone.

    Convex is better

    • @BCNW1
      @BCNW1  Год назад

      No sir. Convex is better at chopping, not carving. I don’t know of any professional wood carving tools with a convex edge.
