I was a 2000s emo kid. I had a friend whose older sister was an elder emo/goth. She would drive us to shows. One day we were driving to my first Warped Tour (2004) and she puts in a tape into her 1995 Civic’s cassette player and said “this is Texas is the Reason. They’re like, the grandfather of emo”.
Um I'm EmoDad66 aka Colin Kelly from stuff you may know such as Circle Take The Square. I suggest you take a la.oh, wait... You think jock is an insult and athleticism negatives emo/core/punk whatever cred. Lol poser
Stoked to see people still giving love to this band. Fell hard for these dudes back in 2012. Got me through some rough times. Thought I'd upload this this EP since it wasn't up at the time on RUclips.
It's a classic, I remember ordering the CD via mail and a money order because I was too young to have checks lol This kind of rock is long gone, but it's always well remembered. Thanks for uploading it.
Man did we play this CD. They played the same shows we'd see our friends play at, but they were so much tighter and better. Happy to have found them at this very beginning.
Same here. I saw them in Austin when this 7" was the only thing available? Maybe the split with Promise Ring was out already too but yeah, I saw them before the 1st full length record. This particular emo rock sound: Mineral, Christine Front Drive, Boys Life, Hum, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker; some of my best senior high school mix-tapes. Bet 💯
That grunge adjacent post hardcore scene was like the talented little brother that outlasted the shadow of his big brother who wasn't really that talented... Grunge died, this stuff evolved.
First time listening : Instant classic. Love it when I find a gem like this, listened to their album before but I wasn't into it. This is a solid 10/10. If anyone has recommendations for anything with a similar feel / vibe I would love to hear them! Xxx
u gotta listen to the album again. trust me, both of the records are tough to get into at first but rewarding once you do. back in the day, the fourfa site got me into a bunch of bands, but this was one that I never got into back then. I should have though. so because of my background back then, now this sounds like.....lifetime meets hot water music meets husker du. and the album reminds me of samiam meets mineral. which makes sense because this band came out later so they show their influences. but they sound like second wave emo at first listen. but then after you listen to them they are so much more planned and layered than alit of the early stuff. and comparing it to the pop stuff that was popular in the mid nineties like the anniversary and the get up kids and the promise ring, they are so much better and more pure emo. this band is up there tier wise with stuff like sunny day real estate and mineral. and yes the lp is dofferent than the ep. they both have distinct sounds, but dude you need to give that lp another chance.
Didn't know Christie Front Drive and Angel hair were both Denver Metro til I lived here. P big scenes going way bacc in all he subcultures before ultra current wave gentrification
these guys are one of the grandaddies of the post hardcore scene. for how popular grunge was at the time i'm sure they faded into obscurity. even though they were innovators
These bro's are just emo, not post hardcore. All the emo bands from Jade Tree and Crank! have faded into obscurity. 😒 We had Post hardcore bands to name a few The Locust Quicksand, ATDI, A Minor Forest, Alexisonfire, Boysetsfire.
Well... Diary came out first if I recall correctly. And this would be second wave emo (midwest emo), the first wave is the original emo (Rites of Spring, Embrace etc...). However, I prefer the second wave
So now it's your turn to tell me that I'm wrong I've never seen anything quite like this I always miss I'm asking you to smile because that's what I like best I need to be this far away from you to understand that I can do this You act like I don't know my own way home

there is no 2000s emo just pop rock

Great record. Thanks for uploading.
It makes me want to start a band to play this genre of music!
I'm 36 and spent my late teens and early 20s in the Boston scene. First time I have ever sat down amd listened to them. Amazing.
Just heard this for the first time and it's amazing. Adding this to my rotation immediately

Texas is the reason
One of a few bands who has a unique style of music !!! Great !!!
They paved the way for a lot of bands that came after them
You must be joking Ever heard about the Buzzcocks

Gave you the benefit of the doubt, but you really don't know what you're talking about.
I wish I kept all my 7"s and splits from this era.
why didn't you?
I've got this exact 7 inch in my collection . Had it since high school :) I wish I had their full length album on vinyl though
If you didn’t live through these times, Gameface was another great band in this somewhat sound.
como amo esta banda
Classic! How did I forget about this?
Best ep ever?
Donald B I have to agree. This band has gotten me through some rough times. That's for sure
Hard to find a better 10 mins of music....

they got too big too fast. people listening to this didnt give a fuck about grunge.
Grudge went away and post-hardcore evolved

I love this.
Texas is the reason to believe.
fuck yeah
Great ep
im so old...
This band > most anything in life
so ahead of their time
I’m not kidding, this is the best record ever made. George Harrison a close second
All things must pass? I feel like you can hear Beatles influence in many of these old Emo bands.
Funny enough, Garrett listed George Harrison's "All Thing Must Pass" as one of his favorite albums. You might be onto something
Grew up with this album. Where TF does the time go?
Emotional hardcore not die
It does not.
This is the pioneering album of the ENTIRE genre of “Emo” music.

@Ѯ thats funny in 95 we always called it emo.
Ѯ How the hell is Texas Is The Reason any of what you just mentioned? This is literally SDRE revisited and not even an inch of emoviolence here
