Started striking and competing in MMA at age *30*
Became a champion in two separate organisations at age *31*
Won the Strikeforce HW Grand Prix at age *33*
Became the UFC LHW champion at age *36*
Defended the LHW belt for the last time, after 3 successful defenses and 1 NC, at age *38*
Won and defended the UFC HW title, becoming the second two-division champion, first HW and LHW double champion, and *first* to hold AND defend two separate titles, at age *39*
Fought his last fight, a competitive 3rd bout against the most successful UFC heavyweight of all time, at age *41*
You cannot deny that DC is definitely in the top 10 greatest of all time, maybe even top 5, just based on his resume alone. Only ever lost to two fighters, one of which is a known cheater, and both of whom are considered the best of all time for their weight classes.
Just imagine how many former champions have lost it by age 35 - Shogun, Rashad Evans, Fedor, Cro Cop... DC was a double champ at *39* years old!!
Just imagine if he started MMA training at 16.
.. He could've been a triple champion easily if he started at middleweight and worked his way up.
That's completely ignoring all of his other achievements and accomplishments outside of the Octagon and how much of a class-act he was as an ambassador for the sport.
    A truly legendary career!

Think it's also worth mentioning he was 40/41 years old when he had his last fight. I would've fancied his changes against Stipe if he was still in his prime. For someone who achieved so much I think DC is massively underrated. Especially considering Anthony Rumble Johnson was on a total rampage when DC beat him, Vulkan was also in form and nobody else wanted to fight Derrick Lewis. He always seemed to fight the toughest opponents. There's no comparison when you look at that compared to people like Bisping who cherry picked softer opponents after he won the middle weight title or even GSP who, on his return, wanted nothing to do with the divisions top contenders.

He did manage to defeat Stipe once even though he ultimately lost the trilogy.

In my opinion, I still consider him the GOAT in heavyweight but I can see how the last match might have bumped him down. Top 3 heavyweights for sure though with Stipe and Cain. As for light heavyweight? It has to be jon jones. Even though I dont like him personally, his resume is objectively better than DC's in light heavy weight division.

    • @RichardVSmall
      @RichardVSmall 4 года назад +1

      Only casuals really think this.
When you're 5'11 vs someone who's 6'5 you have to fight with outstretched hands to hand-fight and catch punches. Because the gloves are badly designed this can result in accidental eye pokes - which happen in like 40% of fights anyway...
yet the UFC never changes the design...
DC has always been hated by casuals, and he's now the only fighter who is accused of deliberately eye poking despite it being ridiculously common.
Even when Stipe jabs with his fingers outstretched knuckle-deep into DC's eye blinding him, the casuals are still calling DC the eye-poker saying he deserves it whatever.
In fact, DC was also eye-poked in all 3 fights by Stipe, but nobody cares.
If he is an eye poker, why did he not do it against any of his previous opponents when fighting for the LHW title, or against his nemesis Jon Jones?
Rumble? No. Gus? No. Rumble again? No. Volkan? No.
I wish people would actually draw attention to the design of the gloves and how they should be changed to prevent eye pokes, solving the problem forever.
But sure, I guess if you're like 12 years old - "DC is eye poker lel"...

I don't hate Cormier, I saw the video where he get's pissed because of John Jones positive test, he was willing to fight him anyway even if he was roided out, DC is the real deal but Miocic's eye poke and Daniel's torned cornea is fucking poetic karma.
